Vermont (i/vərˈmɒnt/ or /vɜːrˈmɒnt/,locally: [vɚˈmɑ̟̃(ʔ)]) is a state in the New England region of the northeastern part of the United States. It is bordered to the west by New York, the south by Massachusetts, the east by New Hampshire and to the north by the Canadian province of Quebec. Vermont is the 6th smallest in area and the 2nd least populous of the 50 United States. It is the least populous of the six New England states and the only one not bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Lake Champlain covers half of Vermont's western border, while the Connecticut River forms most of Vermont's eastern boundary with New Hampshire. The Green Mountains run north-south the length of the state.
With a population of 7,671, the state capital of Montpelier is the least populous state capital in the US. Vermont's most populous city is Burlington. With a 2013 population of 42,284, Burlington is the least populous city in the United States to be the largest city within a state. Burlington's metropolitan area has a population of 214,796. Vermont is one of the most racially homogeneous states; 94.3% of its population identified as non-Hispanic white in 2010.
This is one of those videos that MUST cranked up. Especially if you want to real tick off your neighbors! The last minute and a half are worth the price of the ticket. Ride along with us as we start the chase of Central Vermont train #324 at Essex Jct., VT on a gorgeous summer afternoon in 1987 and 4 geeps. The Burlington Electric wood chip train slips in as we listen to the chimes of 4559. Two RS11's are the power. Now why can 7200 horse wheel this 100 car train along in yesterday railroad world, but 12,000 horses are needed today??? ENJOY! Tim
Central Vermont Railway remained a New England railroad favorite and class act to the end. Experience special trains and daily operations over the entire 325-mile route from East Alburg, VT to New London, CT. (2 hours, includes authoring) Purchase the DVD at http://www.railroadvideodvd.com/
Here is a 10-plus minute clip featuring some Conrail and Central Vermont action in the Palmer. MA area. This is some of the earliest stuff I shot with my first "real" video camera. The first several shots were taken on December 28th, 1986. The other stuff was shot in 1987.
The photos in this slideshow were taken betwnn 1982 and the CV's last year of operation 1995. This show mainly centers around the Palmer sub, between New London Ct and Palmer Mass. but there are a couple Vermont photos included. I have a lot of CV footage on VHS but at this time do not have the means to transfer them to a usable format for youtube. For more of my photos of the CV and other roads you can visit nerail.
The trains of Vermont include fast moving freights and passenger trains, to the slow pace locals and 10 MPH jointed rail that rocks the crew out of their seats. Witness Amtrak and New England Central and Vermont Rail System freights, locals, and an Office Car Special, in various locations across the central and western regions of the state. The weather varies, including snow fall and fall foliage, cloudless sun or that typical, fall drear. Whatever the conditions and trains may be, I hope you enjoy this compilation of sightings I have gathered in my spare time (without a vehicle) in Vermont. Someday, when I have the time and mode of transportation, I hope to make a REAL video about the trains of Vermont! 9/21/11 The first 323 almost a month after Hurricane Irene closed the Roxbury Subd...

Since I was young, I have always wanted to go see the Vermont Inn that Bob Newhart made famous. Well we didn't get to see it but we sure did have a great road trip over from Maine to Vermont. Seven hours of backroads on Memorial Day. We saw and were involved/detoured in six parades that day. Ha This is a one of our favorite videos produced from our New England trip. From Bar Harbor, Maine to Stowe, Vermont and beyond. We stopped in small towns and antique stores as well as a few Maple Syrup stands. It was one sweet road trip.
