Despite the steady downpour Thursday, most areas are expected to get only a quarter to half an inch of rain on average, National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Stalley said.
A few rumbles of thunder and crashes of lightning prompted a ground stop at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport until 7:30 a.m., KXAS-TV (NBC5) reports.
“They’re not too concerned about the rain; it’s the occasional lightning they’re worried about,” Stalley said. “Most of the activity that had the lightning in it is moving on to the east.”

If lightning activity is recorded within 10 miles of the airport, he said, officials announce a ground stop for the safety of both the planes and the workers who are outside.
The weather also pushed tee times back at the AT&T Byron Nelson, but play is now underway.
Along with the familiar rain pattern, temperatures are expected to stay about as cool as the previous few days.
“If we stay locked into cloudy skies, we’ll struggle to get into the upper 60s,” Stalley said.

Friday morning could start out cloudy but is expected to clear and make way for temperatures to get back up to the mid-80s by Saturday.
But stormy weather could return next week with isolated thunderstorms almost every day, Stalley said, though temperatures won’t drop like they have this week.
“That’ll be muggier,” he said. “It’s kind of your typical late spring setup — dry line, instead of a cold front.”
