Twickenham is a town in south west London on the River Thames in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, located 10 miles (16 km) southwest of the centre of London. The administrative headquarters of the borough are at York House in Twickenham, which is of equal importance to Richmond in the London Plan. It expanded rapidly during the suburban growth of London from 1881 until 1961, when its population grew and its farms and common were converted to other use. In 1926 it was incorporated as the Municipal Borough of Twickenham, which merged into the present Greater London borough in 1965.
This area has three grand period mansions with public access: York House, Marble Hill and Strawberry Hill House. Another has been lost, that belonging to 18th century aphoristic poet Alexander Pope. Among these is the Neo-Gothic prototype home of Horace Walpole which has given its name to a whole district, Strawberry Hill, and is linked with the oldest Roman Catholic university in the country, St Mary's University, Twickenham.

Old cine footage of my grandparents & family rowing on the Thames at Twickenham in about 1940. The large building in the background is Pope's Villa which was St Catherine's Convent School at the time but is now Radnor House School.
Erika Roe (born 1957), also known as the Twickenham Streaker, is remembered for a topless run across the pitch of Twickenham Stadium during an England vs. Australia rugby union match on 2 January 1982. It has been described by the BBC as "perhaps the most famous of all streaks." Roe, who later claimed to have been inspired by alcohol, ran onto the field during half time, exposing her 40-inch bosom. Roe and the friend who joined her streak (Sarah Bennett) were corralled by police officers on the field, one of whom covered Roe's chest with his helmet while leading her off the field

LBC 97.3 presenter Steve Allen gives you a guided tour of his hometown Twickenham - and all the characters he talks about every morning!
Home advantage is an important factor for England, with the passion of a vociferous crowd urging the players to make that last-ditch tackle, shunt a driving maul towards the try-line or get up off the floor to resume a position in the while-wall defensive line. In advance of back-to-back matches home in the RBS 6 Nations, RFUtv spoke to members of the squad about their best -- and loudest -- experiences in front of the Twickenham crowd and the impact that had on the outcome.
Twickenham to Teddington by trolleybus on the first day of operation May 16th 1931. --------------------------------------- There are chunks of the journey missing but I have put what film clips there are into the right order. Note the trams still in service. The driver had to drive these trams from a position completely open to the elements. Along with the trolleybus a new tram was also entering service with a completely enclosed cab..This was the "Feltham" type tram. The half cab trolleybus design, seen in the video, was soon to be superseded by the well known flat fronted design. The half cab trolleybuses known as "Diddlers" were retired in 1948. The last London trolleybus ran in May 1962 along the route shown in the video. Today the London bus route 281 follows the same route. ...

You can see the flaps being extended during the approach-landing.
Rob Cook was a try-scorer at Twickenham in the 39-39 draw with Harlequins and the full back was thrilled to get over the try line in impressive style, but disappointed that the Cherry and Whites were unable to pick up the full five points.

It's just the strangest thing
I've seen your face somewhere
An early evening dream
A past-life love affair
Do you know me at all?
Do you know me at all?
In all my revelry
I thought I felt us there
A feather in my hand
A flower in your hair
Do you know me at all?
Do you know me at all?
Do you know me at all?
