Republican People’s Party (CHP) lawmaker Ihsan Ozkes has resigned from the party.
The deputy for Istanbul submitted his resignation to party chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu at the CHP headquarters in Ankara on Monday, an Anadolu Agency correspondent reported.
He is yet to announce whether he will join one of the other three parliamentary parties or remain in the Grand National Assembly as an independent. The CHP came second in June’s general election, winning 132 seats, and is involved in ongoing coalition talks with the Justice and Development (AK) Party, which won the largest share of seats but no majority.
Ozkes, a former mufti, became a CHP deputy in 2011. He was the party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Uskudar in Istanbul in last year’s local elections and received the highest number of votes to join the party's governing council last September.

(1 Nov 2015) After an intense election campaign, Turkish opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu urged fellow citizens to go out and vote "for our democracy, for our Republic, for our children and for our future".
Kilicdaroglu spoke to the media after casting his vote in Ankara on Sunday.
The Republican People's Party (CHP) leader said he wanted "peace and prosperity" for Turkey.
Sunday's general elections are a rerun of a June election in which the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, lost its majority after 13 years of single-party rule.
More than 54 million people are eligible to vote in Turkey at more than 175,000 polling stations.
Turnout is expected to be high.

ANKARA, (SANA) -- The Turkish Republican People's Party (CHP) called for questioning PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu at the Turkish Parliament over the presence of Turkish officers in Syria who cooperate with terrorists.
In a memo submitted to the Parliament by MP for the Republican People's Party Lutfi Baydar, the Party said that Erdogan and Davutoglu should clarify the details of these officers' cooperation with the so-called Free Army in Syria and respond to the reports of their arrest and news of Turkish officers dying there.
In turn, the Turkish Communist Party (TKP) issued a statement calling on Erdogan to present a convincing explanation on the role of these Turkish officers in Syria and whether they're cooperating with Al Qaeda.
The Party demanded information about the reported arrests of the officers, noting that two high-ranking Turkish officers and intelligence personnel were also arrested in Syria earlier.
Independent Turkey Party: US is Attacking Syria Because it Symbolizes Struggle against Imperialism in the Region
Leader of the Independent Turkey Party (BTP), Haydar Bas, affirmed that the US attack and pressure against Syria is due to the fact that it symbolizes struggle and steadfastness in the face of imperialism in the Middle East, denouncing the west's persistence in spreading lies and allegations about Syria.
In an article published by the Turkish newspaper Yeni Mesaj on Friday, Bas denounced the inhumane and immoral fatwas permitting the murder of Syrians which are issued by some Islamic countries who collaborate with the US.
He said that the campaign against Syria seeks to sow strife among Muslims, noting that sectarian conflict was used throughout history to subjugate countries.

The deputy for Istanbul submitted his resignation to party chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu at the CHP headquarters in Ankara on Monday, an Anadolu Agency correspondent reported.
He is yet to announce whether he will join one of the other three parliamentary parties or remain in the Grand National Assembly as an independent. The CHP came second in June’s general election, winning 132 seats, and is involved in ongoing coalition talks with the Justice and Development (AK) Party, which won the largest share of seats but no majority.
Ozkes, a former mufti, became a CHP deputy in 2011. He was the party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Uskudar in Istanbul in last year’s local elections and received the highest number of votes to join the party's governing council last September.

In a memo submitted to the Parliament by MP for the Republican People's Party Lutfi Baydar, the Party said that Erdogan and Davutoglu should clarify the details of these officers' cooperation with the so-called Free Army in Syria and respond to the reports of their arrest and news of Turkish officers dying there.
In turn, the Turkish Communist Party (TKP) issued a statement calling on Erdogan to present a convincing explanation on the role of these Turkish officers in Syria and whether they're cooperating with Al Qaeda.
The Party demanded information about the reported arrests of the officers, noting that two high-ranking Turkish officers and intelligence personnel were also arrested in Syria earlier.
Independent Turkey Party: US is Attacking Syria Because it Symbolizes Struggle against Imperialism in the Region
Leader of the Independent Turkey Party (BTP), Haydar Bas, affirmed that the US attack and pressure against Syria is due to the fact that it symbolizes struggle and steadfastness in the face of imperialism in the Middle East, denouncing the west's persistence in spreading lies and allegations about Syria.
In an article published by the Turkish newspaper Yeni Mesaj on Friday, Bas denounced the inhumane and immoral fatwas permitting the murder of Syrians which are issued by some Islamic countries who collaborate with the US.
He said that the campaign against Syria seeks to sow strife among Muslims, noting that sectarian conflict was used throughout history to subjugate countries.

On the opposite side of the Galata Bridge on the banks of the Golden Horn is the Yeni Cami Mosque with a large number of domes and minarets built one on top of the other plus a number of precious glass windows. The Grand Basare is a city within a city. Through a large gate there is a labyrinth of corridors that were built over many centuries. The enclosed market contains more than four thousand shops within its seemingly endless halls and it is possible to buy almost anything here. A vivid world full of the aromas of the orient. Near to the west coast of Turkey situated between Troy and Ephesos is one of the most famous and well preserved ancient cities of this region, Pergamon. This, in the Hellenic era, was an ancient cosmopolitan city the traces of which are still visible today. Marmaris is situated on the Turkish Riviera and was once well protected by a mediaeval fortress. In 1522 Sultan Süleyman The Splendid enlarged the small castle of the former Roman rulers as he wished to conquer the island of Rhodes. Ankara is the capital of the Republic of Turkey and this once Anatolian provincial backwater is today one of the country’s most modern cities and is a vibrant world metropolis. The biggest mosque in Turkey is the Kocatepe Camii which is both a symbol of the devoutness of the Turkish people as well as being an important centre of communication for the entire city. Turkey is a country of many faces, with fairytale-like mosques and palaces, legendary ancient cities and fascinating landscapes. It is a link between Asia and Europe, between East and West and an historic bridge between both Orient and Occident.

Day 9: Istanbul, Turkey - This was a day of sightseeing at some of the most famous attractions in Istanbul that I’ve wanted to visit my entire life including the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. And the read highlight of the day for me was the incredible Turkish food, especially the kebabs.
Museum Pass Istanbul - 85 TRY ($28.88) - Before getting started with the things we did in this video, I purchased a Museum Pass for Istanbul, which granted me access to a few of the attractions without having to stand in line. I’m not sure if I really saved much money, but it did save time.
2:00 Sultan Ahmet Camii (Blue Mosque) - Our first stop of the day in this attractions in Istanbul video was the Sultan Ahmet Camii, which is commonly known as the Blue Mosque due to its blue tiles on the inside. We actually arrived a little too early in the morning, so they were not open yet, so we walked around the Hippodrome of Constantinople for a few minutes. When the Blue Mosque opened, we went inside. Both inside and outside are incredible to see.
5:37 Hagia Sophia - One of the most famous pieces of architecture in all of Istanbul and one of the most famous attractions is Hagia Sophia. It started off as a church, later became a mosque, and now it’s an official museum. After entering, you can walk around the main room, but the highlight of visiting Hagia Sophia for me was walking up to the upper galleries for some amazing views from above.
8:24 Topkapi Palace - Finally, one more of the most famous attractions in Istanbul, and located right in the same area as Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque is Topkapi Palace, which was an Ottoman Palace. You can walk around the gardens and palace structures, which are now galleries. I especially enjoyed the Imperial Harem, which was a section of the palace reserved for women, and the best preserved area of the palace.
11:25 Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab (Şehzade Cağ Kebap) - There are many different types of Turkish food, and cag kebab is a type of kebab from Erzurum in Eastern Turkey. According some some men I met while eating the amazing kebabs, this is the best restaurant for cag kebab in all of Istanbul. The type of kebab is made from lamb, and instead of being on a vertical skewer like other types of kebabs, it’s grilled on a horizontal skewer. The meat is cooked with wood fire, and slice off onto smaller skewers to be served. If you get a chance to try cag kebab, it’s an absolutely stunning Turkish food. The entire meal was delicious, but the best part was meeting the owner of Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab and eating a slice of the meat right off the roll hot and fresh. Out entire meal cost 85 TL ($28.88).
20:34 Basilica Cistern - 20 TRY ($6.80) - Arter the amazing Turkish food lunch, we headed over to see the Basilica cistern, one of many underground cisterns in Istanbul. It was interesting to see. We then headed to the hotel for a rest, and then went out again for dinner.
23:27 Dinner at Balkan Lokantasi - Beşiktaş is a neighborhood in Istanbul and we walked over to a restaurant for dinner in that neighborhood called Balkan Lokantasi. It was an extremely busy restaurant serving all sorts of different Turkish food in a cafeteria like style. You walk through the line, choose whatever dishes you want, and pay for what you get. You can eat a serious feast for a pretty good price. I got a little confused and didn’t really know what I was doing, so ended up ordering what was way too much food. But that’s alright, it was all really delicious.
It was fantastic day of Turkish food and visiting some attractions in Istanbul that I had wanted to visit my entire life.

More often than not, people spend all their time in Turkey mostly in Istanbul. Some may diverted their time to cities along the Mediterranean sea or the cave city of Cappadocia. But Turkey has much more to offer than that especially in the east!
After arriving in Istanbul, I was bombarded by the sight of throngs of tourists. The city itself is great and all but I just can't handle the crowds so my quest to get away from all the tourists began by starting off from Selcuk and traveled across the country through Pamukakle, Antalya, Fethiye, Faralya, Kabak, Goreme, Mt Nemrut, Van Trabzon and finally Kars where I crossed the border to Georgia (stay tuned for my next video about Georgia).
During my one month time, I had the opportunity to experience Ramadan with the Turkish people, went on my first break fast and got invited for tea by the locals where I almost got married (jokingly). I also paraglided in Pamukkale, camped in Faralya, swam along the Mediterranean coast (Butterfly Valley, Kabak and the secret Paradise Beach), Hiked all the Valleys in Cappadocia, climbed Mt Nemrut, met up with my friend I met in New Zealand in the Asian side of Istanbul, swam in Lake Van, see the Sumela Monastery, and walked across the plain of Ani. Turkey is definitely one of its kind and I encouraged you to go further east to see the real Turkey!

An American young lady visits the off-the-beaten places in Istanbul and interviews the most interesting characters with her questions about the most wondered topics.
In the selection of places, popular places were never ignored but the approach was changed to be more intercultural.
A variety of colorful and interesting people from Turkish culture, from one of the richest women in Turkey to a masseur at a public bath and the best belly dancer in the country were chosen. By this way, interaction with a large cultural cross-section of local people providing a much richer experience was preferred.
The selection of interviewees and the questions are based on Şerif Yenen's 25 years of field experience as a tourist guide and a travel writer. With this experience, the needs and interests of true travelers can easily be anticipated, real İstanbul is seen by way of the back door, and the philosophy behind the culture is revealed.

ANKARA, (SANA) -- The Turkish Republican People's Party (CHP) called for questioning PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu at the Turkish Parliament over the presence of Turkish officers in Syria who cooperate with terrorists.
In a memo submitted to the Parliament by MP for the Republican People's Party Lutfi Baydar, the Party said that Erdogan and Davutoglu should clarify the details of these officers' cooperation with the so-called Free Army in Syria and respond to the reports of their arrest and news of Turkish officers dying there.
In turn, the Turkish Communist Party (TKP) issued a statement calling on Erdogan to present a convincing explanation on the role of these Turkish officers in Syria and whether they're cooperating with Al Qaeda.
The Party demanded information about the reported arrests of the officers, noting that two high-ranking Turkish officers and intelligence personnel were also arrested in Syria earlier.
Independent Turkey Party: US is Attacking Syria Because it Symbolizes Struggle against Imperialism in the Region
Leader of the Independent Turkey Party (BTP), Haydar Bas, affirmed that the US attack and pressure against Syria is due to the fact that it symbolizes struggle and steadfastness in the face of imperialism in the Middle East, denouncing the west's persistence in spreading lies and allegations about Syria.
In an article published by the Turkish newspaper Yeni Mesaj on Friday, Bas denounced the inhumane and immoral fatwas permitting the murder of Syrians which are issued by some Islamic countries who collaborate with the US.
He said that the campaign against Syria seeks to sow strife among Muslims, noting that sectarian conflict was used throughout history to subjugate countries.

ANKARA, (SANA) -- The Turkish Republican People's Party (CHP) called for questioning PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu at the Turkish Parliament over the presence of Turkish officers in Syria who cooperate with terrorists.
In a memo submitted to the Parliament by MP for the Republican People's Party Lutfi Baydar, the Party said that Erdogan and Davutoglu should clarify the details of these officers' cooperation with the so-called Free Army in Syria and respond to the reports of their arrest and news of Turkish officers dying there.
In turn, the Turkish Communist Party (TKP) issued a statement calling on Erdogan to present a convincing explanation on the role of these Turkish officers in Syria and whether they're cooperating with Al Qaeda.
The Party demanded information about the reported arrests of the officers, noting that two high-ranking Turkish officers and intelligence personnel were also arrested in Syria earlier.
Independent Turkey Party: US is Attacking Syria Because it Symbolizes Struggle against Imperialism in the Region
Leader of the Independent Turkey Party (BTP), Haydar Bas, affirmed that the US attack and pressure against Syria is due to the fact that it symbolizes struggle and steadfastness in the face of imperialism in the Middle East, denouncing the west's persistence in spreading lies and allegations about Syria.
In an article published by the Turkish newspaper Yeni Mesaj on Friday, Bas denounced the inhumane and immoral fatwas permitting the murder of Syrians which are issued by some Islamic countries who collaborate with the US.
He said that the campaign against Syria seeks to sow strife among Muslims, noting that sectarian conflict was used throughout history to subjugate countries.

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has hit northern Afghanistan and Pakistan. There are no reports of casualties or damage, but communication can be slow in the mountainous region where the quake was centred.

"In an interview with NPR this week, President Obama complained that the media is oversaturated with coverage of terrorism. “If you’ve been watching television for the last month, all you have been seeing, all you have been hearing about is these guys with masks or black flags who are potentially coming to get you,” Obama said...
For example, a search of CNN coverage between November 21 and December 21 of this year yielded 427 hits (instances where an individual show mentioned the word at least once) for the search phrase “terrorism” and 404 hits for “ISIS”; the same search for “poverty” yielded only 34 hits. Here are the terrorism search strings compared to the other topics in chart form (note that the anti-privacy CISA legislation, directly related to terrorism, was not mentioned at all
Actually, the hippies still hold a special place in this U.S. "bogeyman" equation. During the red scare of the 50's and 60's when all that commie baiting nonsense was going on, the hippies also ended up being effectively marginalized and despised by the same propaganda agents who were out there branding people with communist leanings as necessarily godless, dangerous fruitcakes. Similar propaganda efforts have also likely helped shape the mainstream public's attitudes towards hippies and counterculture folks more generally. For example, we are all probably aware of the very common implicit association between 'lazy bums' and hippies. It is interesting to see how people can take the hate they hold towards one or more different race or ethnic group only to transfer it onto people within their own in-group whom they happen to disagree with on certain lifestyle choices and/or behaviors. If you dig deep enough below the American racist psyche you might find that people tend to associate certain behaviors and attitudes with the race they despise. The reality is though, that we would be better off as a nation now if more kids decided to adopt hippy values and standards. That sure beats the garbage they're hearing from our toxic pop culture. Russia says revelations by a Turkish lawmaker about the transfer of deadly sarin gas to terrorists in Syria must be probed.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, the joint investigation currently underway by the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons should not ignore the latest disclosure. Earlier this month, Eren Erdem, who is a member of Turkey’s opposition Republican People's Party, claimed that the ISIL terrorists received all the necessary materials to produce sarin gas via Turkey. He also talked about a possible cover-up in the case. Erdem was later accused of treason by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Sarin, classified by the UN as a weapon of mass destruction, has been used in a number of attacks in Syria. A video released in 2012 showed the terrorists testing a chemical substance on lab rabbits and threatening to kill pro-government Syrians with it.

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has hit northern Afghanistan and Pakistan. There are no reports of casualties or damage, but communication can be slow in the mountainous region where the quake was centred.
Strong shockes were felt in the Afghan capital Kabul just after 11pm local time and in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, where authorities declared a red alert.

Recently President Obama criticized the networks for covering terrorism too much. This is partly true. They do cover Islamic terrorists wall-to-wall. Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"In an interview with NPR this week, President Obama complained that the media is oversaturated with coverage of terrorism. “If you’ve been watching television for the last month, all you have been seeing, all you have been hearing about is these guys with masks or black flags who are potentially coming to get you,” Obama said...
For example, a search of CNN coverage between November 21 and December 21 of this year yielded 427 hits (instances where an individual show mentioned the word at least once) for the search phrase “terrorism” and 404 hits for “ISIS”; the same search for “poverty” yielded only 34 hits. Here are the terrorism search strings compared to the other topics in chart form (note that the anti-privacy CISA legislation, directly related to terrorism, was not mentioned at all
Actually, the hippies still hold a special place in this U.S. "bogeyman" equation. During the red scare of the 50's and 60's when all that commie baiting nonsense was going on, the hippies also ended up being effectively marginalized and despised by the same propaganda agents who were out there branding people with communist leanings as necessarily godless, dangerous fruitcakes. Similar propaganda efforts have also likely helped shape the mainstream public's attitudes towards hippies and counterculture folks more generally. For example, we are all probably aware of the very common implicit association between 'lazy bums' and hippies. It is interesting to see how people can take the hate they hold towards one or more different race or ethnic group only to transfer it onto people within their own in-group whom they happen to disagree with on certain lifestyle choices and/or behaviors. If you dig deep enough below the American racist psyche you might find that people tend to associate certain behaviors and attitudes with the race they despise. In recent years, we have witnessed peaceful resolutions of some of the long-lasting conflicts around the world. Colombia, the Philippines, and Indonesia are some of these outstanding examples. Colombia during its 52 year conflict had several peace negotiations, but none has ever before come so close to achieving peace. Because of its contemporary significance as well as actors’ insistence on peace, we found it valuable to discuss Colombia’s experiences. The Filipino example is interesting because of the facilitation of the Islamic actors and significant because of Turkish actors' involvement as international observers. It is also ideal for initiating discussions on the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of third party roles and how to better include gender issues in peace processes. Last but not least, the Aceh peace process in Indonesia, which ended one of the long-lasting conflicts in Asia, stands out as a good example in contemplating how conflict between the two religiously-similar groups can be peacefully transformed.
