Laurence Harvey (born Laruschka Mischa Skikne; 1 October 1928 – 25 November 1973) was a Lithuanian-born South African actor. In a career that spanned a quarter of a century, Harvey appeared in stage, film and television productions primarily in the United Kingdom and the United States. His performance in Room at the Top (1959) resulted in an Academy Award nomination. That success was followed by the role of the ill-fated Texan commander William Barret Travis in The Alamo (1960), produced by John Wayne, and as the brainwashed Raymond Shaw in The Manchurian Candidate (1962).
Harvey's civil birth name was Laruschka Mischa Skikne. His Hebrew names were Zvi Mosheh. He was born in Joniškis, Lithuania, the youngest of three sons of Ella (née Zotnickaita) and Ber Skikne, Lithuanian Jewish parents. When he was five years old, his family travelled with their family, Riva Segal and her two sons, Louis and Charles Segal on the ship, the SS Adolph Woermann to South Africa, where he was known as Harry Skikne. He grew up in Johannesburg, and was in his teens when he served with the entertainment unit of the South African Army during the Second World War.

CREEPY CRAWLY: Interview with Laurence R Harvey, star of 'Human Centipede 3' They might not have made him rich, but the horror-comedies Human Centipede 2&3 by Dutch director Tom Six have made British actor Laurence R Harvey famous and something of a legend - at least in the eyes of the world's horror fans. In Australia to promote Human Centipede 3, Harvey dropped by to discuss his involvement in these highly original, very entertaining, admittedly disgusting films and to explain why they are so popular. The film is rated R and is definitely not recommended for the squeamish or sensitive. For those with stronger stomachs, and who enjoyed the playfully anti-cliche transgressions of the first two films, it does, as Harvey explains, offer a new type of experience. Please enjoy. Laurence Harvey recites the February 24, 1836 letter of Alamo commander Colonel William Barret Travis, the role Harvey played in John Wayne's epic motion picture, THE ALAMO. To be sure, Harvey's recollection of the letter is not 100%, but it's "pretty close to right", as Wayne himself might've said.
