There is currently a military coup in Turkey. It is not certain what the outcome will be, but tanks are on the streets, soldiers have taken over state television, airports are shut down, and gunfire and explosions have been heard in Istanbul and Turkey. It is clear that a substantial section of the military has taken action against the government and is in control of parts of the country. At this moment there are reports of soldiers killing protesters. Given the historic weakness of the Turkish military as a political power relative to the eras in which it carried out previous coups, there is a strong chance that the government will prevail. • [ελληνικά]

On the latest process in Turkey Aug 14 0 comments Istanbul Yenikapi Rally that was realized last Sunday is an important example showing the extent of political mobilization in Turkey, happening in the last month. The rally, which was joined by five million people and the leaders of opposition parties (except HDP), showing "unity of the protectors of democracy", actually had multiple messages targeting both domestic and foreign politics. During the coup process, which can be described as the clashing of power groups inside the state, it looks like president Erdogan and AKP Government managed to talk different political groups into their "politics for coup process". Turkey: Our sorrow is the seed of our rage May 15 0 comments The fire that appeared in the coalmine in Manisa-Soma on 13th of May, became one of the biggest massacres in these lands. As a result of the fire, hundreds of coal miners were poisoned by intense levels of carbon monoxide. The number of workers who have died increases hour by hour. The Minister for Energy, the Minister for Labour and the Prime Misinter have tried to hide the real number of the miners who have died while declaring that “it was a sad work accident”. The Prime Minister has declared that “This kind of accident could happen anytime.” [Türkçe] [ελληνικά] Class War and Imperialism in Greece Apr 12 0 comments Class war and imperialism have deepened in Greece. The Greek working class has been subjected to further attacks from the local and imperialist ruling classes. To receive the latest ‘bailout’ from the IMF and the ECB, the Greek state was told by the German, French and US ruling classes to again reduce pensions, to fully privatise public utilities, and to again cut social spending and wages. [Nederlands] Greek Fire: From Riot to Social Rebellion Dec 26 0 comments If the reaction to the police killing had been limited to skirmishes between cops and a few anarchists, however, the Greek events would have literally burned themselves out after a few days. What is interesting about the current situation is precisely how it grew into something larger, expanding from street battles to the occupation of secondary schools and university faculties, and showing not only combativeness but a sense of initiative and imagination, as in the dramatic seizure of television and radio stations by protesters who took control of the microphones and cameras... Turkey: Modernization, Authoritarianism and Political Islam Jun 22 1 comments The following article is to appear soon in "Red & Black Revolution" no.13 (magazine of the WSM, Ireland). It examines the recent evolution of Turkish society, after the 1980 coup, and how it expresses in the current conflict between the military and the Islamist parties that is nothing but the conflict within sectors of the bourgeoisie for hegemony. more >>International Solidarity against statist repression in Turkey Jun 08 CGA 0 comments Press release about the ongoing revolt in Turkey An employee of the burnt bank speaks out on tonight’s tragic deaths in Athens May 06 0 comments Originally published on the Occupied London blog (www.occupiedlondon.org), this is a statement by an employee of the Marfin Bank, the bank whose branch was set alight in Athens yesterday (5 May), in which 3 employees met a tragic death.
