Francis Sedgemore is a journalist, writer and recovering physicist who covers many and various topics, including but not limited to science, engineering, technology, politics, education and the arts.

Before his early release from the ivory tower of academe, Francis was for a decade a research scientist and university teacher specialising in atmospheric and space physics.

With experience ranging from research papers and other technical documents to feature articles and news reports, Francis has worked in academic science publishing, magazines, newsletters and websites, national and local general news media.

As a journalist and communications consultant, Francis’ clients have included science and engineering publishers, government and third sector organisations.

In addition to his work as a journalist, writer and editor, Francis engages in sustainable transport and unhealthy lifestyle advocacy with a focus on cycling and ale drinking.

Francis is part of the National Union of Journalists, active in Cambridge NUJ branch level, as vice-chair of Equality Council, and as a member of the union’s Ethics, Freelance Industrial and Public Relations and Communications Councils. It’s name notwithstanding, the NUJ is an international body representing communications workers in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, with pockets of activity in continental Europe.

Francis lives on the boundary between Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire in the eastern sector of the European archipelago known as Great Britain, the United Kingdom, Perfidious Albion, or, to the annoyance of around 10 million of its inhabitants, England. It is rather nice.
