Chase and Status

After an excellent year around the festival circuit, London duo Chase and Status are set to end 2013 on a high with the forthcoming release of their new album Brand New Machine. In contrast to the heavy grime, dubstep lines and wobbly breakdowns, the duo have leapt to the other end of the drum ‘n’ bass spectrum with the upbeat tones of their new single Count on Me. Featuring the rich vocals of newcomer soul singer Moko, her looped vocals are reminiscent of old school 90s techno, making this track anything but typical of Chase and Status. Count on Me is certainly easy listening and it is likely to appeal to a much wider audience than the duo has previously attracted. The high energy beat is perfect for clubbing across the spectrum, and the  drum ‘n’ bass rhythm section laced with pitch-shifted samples and syncopated keyboard chords, makes for a very slick production.

It isn’t my favourite Chase and Status tune of all time, but it is a great track and I certainly wouldn’t be changing the station when it comes on – and I suspect this will be frequently in the coming months.

The soundtrack to ‘Skyfall’ has become the highest charting album in the James Bond film franchise since 1985, and had over 91,000 downloads at the end of last week. The song is not on Adele’s album, however is now commercially available as a stand alone single. Since the release of the new Bond film, this track has rocketed up the charts as is now at 4 on the BBC Radio 1 Chart. Digital sales of the track may start to fall when the hype of the films begins to ease, however given such rave reviews of the film, I suspect it is likely that Adele’s track could remain in the charts long after the films release if radio runs maintain momentum.

“Anything Could Happen” is Ellie Goulding’s first single from her sophomore album “Halcyon”, which was released in stores in the UK on October 8th. Produced by Jim Eliot, this is a nostalgic and uplifting electro-indie track,  accompanied by compelling and unique vocals reminiscent of classic 80s pop . “Anything Could Happen” is currently down 2 at 26 in the BBC Radio 1 Chart, but her flawless performance on the Later with Jools Holland show last night, could see this track start to creep back up the charts.
