Stadium Southland

ILT Stadium Southland is a multi-purpose venue, capable of conducting a wide range of event modes from large scale concerts to sporting events and exhibitions. ILT Stadium Southland is the energetic heart of our Southern community. Incorporating the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome, the stadium complex has hosted a plethora of national and international events from all genres – sporting, recreational, cultural, arts, corporate and even equestrian.Invercargill, New Zealand.

The original stadium was completed in May 2000. In September 2010, a heavy snowfall caused the main stadium roof to collapse, causing substantial structural damage to the complex. The cause was found to be a lack of roof strength and design but complied with building standards of the day. Nevertheless, the insurance company that covered the facility issued writs in 2011 to the Invercargill City Council to recover the estimated $6 million in payouts. A new safer roof design and a larger capacity stadium was rebuilt. It is expected to be ready in time for the 2013 sports season, for the Southern Steel and Southland Sharks. A temporary facility was set up in the adjoining SIT Zero Fees Velodrome, which was unharmed and hosted the Steel and the Sharks for the 2011/12/13 seasons.

Stadium

A stadium (plural stadiums or stadia) is a place or venue for (mostly) outdoor sports, concerts, or other events and consists of a field or stage either partly or completely surrounded by a tiered structure designed to allow spectators to stand or sit and view the event.

Pausanias noted that for about half a century the only event at the ancient Greek Olympic festival was the race that comprised one length of the stade at Olympia, where the word "stadium" originated.

Etymology

"Stadium" is the Latin form of the Greek word "stadion" (στάδιον), a measure of length equalling the length of 600 human feet. As feet are of variable length the exact length of a stadion depends on the exact length adopted for 1 foot at a given place and time. Although in modern terms 1 stadion = 600 ft (180 m), in a given historical context it may actually signify a length up to 15% larger or smaller.

The equivalent Roman measure, the stadium, had a similar length — about 185 m (607 ft) - but instead of being defined in feet was defined using the Roman standard passus to be a distance of 125 passūs (double-paces).

Izu Ugonoh

Izuagbe "Izu" Ugonoh (born November 2, 1986 in Szczecin, Poland) is a Polish professional boxer and kickboxer of Nigerian descent. He graduated from the Jędrzej Śniadecki University School of Physical Educations and Sport in Gdańsk. Ugonoh is currently ranked as the WBO number 15 heavyweight boxer in the world.

Biography

Izuagbe was born to Nigerian parents in the Polish city of Szczecin. He trained kick boxing at Gdańsk club GKSK Corpus. Due to his similarity in appearance and fighting style he is sometimes called the Polish Remy Bonjasky. He has also been inspired by Gökhan Saki.

In 2009, in the Austrian city of Villach, he won the Kickboxing World Championships gold medal in the formula K-1 Rules to 91 kg. In 2010, he became European champion in the same formula in Baku. He met the local Azeri Zamika Atakisziwa in the final.

On October 16, 2010, he made his debut as a boxer in Legionowo beating by a first round KO Igoris Papunia from Latvia. He fought his second professional fight on November 20, 2010, in a show in Nysa, during which he defeated Pavel Habra by technical KO in the first round.
