This Valentine’s Day weekend, Get Summered and SERVICE Studio will be pairing up for the first time to host the second annual “DIRTY” show. Last year, on one of the coldest nights in New York history, we held our event inside PLAY, at The Museum of Sex. Sponsored by UBER and Flavorpill, we welcomed over 500 guests and showcased 30 talented multi medium artists. The careful curation of live DJ’s created an all out sexy dance party, resulting in feature in the Village Voice, and an overall feeling of mutual satisfaction, indeed.
In “DIRTY,” artists are given a platform to reveal the depths of their devious and sordid imaginations.
“DIRTY” is an erotic exhibit of photographs, paintings, sculpture, burlesque and video. Each exemplifying the artist’s individual interpretation of sex. With a collection of 30 plus artists, ranging from novice to “all city,” “DIRTY” is a vessel for the freedom of sexual expression through all mediums. Get Summered, together with SERVICE, hopes to be the catalyst by which people are inspired to question and embrace their sexuality in new ways, through art.

Alchemy the medieval forerunner of chemistry is a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination based on the supposed transformation of matter. It is said that “alchemists relied heavily upon their dreams, inspirations and visions for guidance in perfecting their art. In order to protect their secrets, they recorded diaries filled with mysterious symbols rather than text. These symbols remain exceptionally potent for changing states of consciousness.” Alchemy will be a contemporary reflection of this well worn path through the eyes of the contributing artists.
Show curator and contributor Monica Canilao exists within a community of creators. For The Alchemy Show Canilao has selected artists who wield this magical power to transform their surroundings and materials before them into useful and beautiful objects. These contributing artists practice everyday alchemy within their lives and creative practice. Artwork that flows from one state to another manifesting magical transformation and combining media to create something new. Metal is reshaped and welded into tools, fabric is woven from plant to thread into clothing, tree to wood to shelter. Seed to food for life. Focused Creative energy birthed from dreams of the maker.
Alchemy will involve a combination of flat work and installation. Like historical alchemists who relied heavily upon their dreams, inspirations and visions for guidance in perfecting their art. Invited artists will be showing new work steeped in mysticism and mystery.

Inner State Gallery is Detroit’s premier art gallery for established and emerging artists, from Detroit and across the globe. Located in Eastern Market, Inner State Gallery has exhibited the work of local artists Glenn Barr, Camilo Pardo and Tyree Guyton, as well as international street artists Nychos, Askew, Ben Frost and Meggs. The 10,000 square foot building is home to two exhibition spaces, an artist residency program, a print studio and the gallery’s publishing company 1xRUN.

I’m excited to be showing a collection of my cardboard findings and a few collages as well in the Frontal Labotomy case at Tender Trap. Andrew Shirley has been curating the case with a lot of great artists since Tender Trap re-opened in Greenpoint. My installation will be up in the front room at the bar for a few weeks, stop in a check it out. One of my favorite Brookyn DJ’s Prince Klassen will be playing the opening as well. Come through!
