#YVR ACTORS – Bury Me
Vancouver’s ACTORS have just released their new single “Bury Me” via Northern Light Records. It was written, recorded, and produced by Jason Corbett at his studio Jacknife Sound.
“I could go into exactly what this song means to me lyrically, but that would rob listeners of what it might mean to them… and that connection is what I’m after.”-Jason Corbett
Catch ACTORS this Saturday at the Fox Cabaret.

the interview show: Holograms
Sweden’s Holograms are a punk band that incorporate synths into their sound. They are signed to New York’s Captured Tracks label (home of talented and controversial bands like Mac DeMarco, DIIV and Perfect Pussy). When I found these guys backstage, they were a few beers into their night. Trying to get this drunk punk band to answer some questions was equal parts challenging, frustrating and FUN. Listen to our hilarious chat. (They even manage to crack me up.)
Holograms “Meditations” The lead single from Holograms latest record Forever.
Holograms “Luminous” This track I didn’t have time to play in the show!

the interview show: PUP the band
Last year PUP the band exploded from the Toronto punk scene, winning accolades and earning spots on many lists of “bands to watch.” This year, things can only get better for them. I chatted with Stefan and Steve about everything from musical paths not taken by PUP to keeping every show “do or die” to everyone in the band showing each other their penises.
This interview is one of my recent favorites. Listen!
PUP “Reservoir” My favorite PUP track.
PUP “Lionheart” I don’t play “Lionheart” on the show, but Stefan and Steve insisted on telling me the secret origin of this track anyway.
PUP the band is back in Vancouver March 3rd at the Media Club. See you there! (It’s your chance to be able to say, “I saw them back when…”)

the interview show: FIDLAR
LA’s FIDLAR is the latest hard-partying skate punk band everyone loves. The band’s name is an acronym for “Fuck It Dog, Life’s a Risk,” a skate mantra from the band’s skateboarding roots. While we all chilled in the tour van, I asked band members Max (the band’s ginger indie sex symbol/drummer) and Brandon (bassist/watersports enthusiast) a few questions.
The funniest part of our chat comes when I ask FIDLAR about Rolling Stone’s report that “a long night in D.C. ended in a hotel wrestling match and one member (Brandon) pissing all over the others’ stuff…” Listen to our chat to get the full story.
FIDLAR “Gimmie Something” This track is a band favorite from their self-titled debut full-length, but it’s a track that “doesn’t make sense to play live, yet” since the song involves backup vocals from the entire FIDLAR LA fam’.
FIDLAR “Cheap Beer” The band’s “crowd-pleaser” and their first ever song.

Win Tickets to BLEACHED @ Fortune Sound Club
Jennifer and Jessie Clavin are two sisters from sunny Southern California who make melodic rock and roll and sing about things they actually care about. Formerly of Los Angeles band Mika Miko, Jennifer and Jessie started Bleached after moving back to their hometown deep in the San Fernando Valley. They’ve since taken on a 70’s punk esthetic that paints a picture of vintage surf culture and rebellious riot girls. After the success of their first three singles, the girls are set to release “Ride Your Heart” on April 2 via Dead Oceans.
In support of their debut, Bleached will embark on a spring tour that stops in Vancouver at Fortune Sound Club on May 2. $12 advanced tickets are now available online or at Zulu, Red Cat, and Beatstreet Records.
For a chance to win two free tickets, email winnieguestlist(@)gmail.com with your name by April 19 at 5:00pm. Please use “Bleached Contest” in the subject line. You must be attending the Facebook event page to qualify.

the interview show: B-Lines
B-Lines are the Vancouver scene’s favorite punk mainstays. (They are named after a bus route in Vancouver.) I caught up with frontman Ryan Dyck outside the Media Club before a show. Ryan was a few beers into his night and in fine form. In the middle of our chat, he got into a fight with his roommate about all the records that were clogging up their living room. And things only get crazier from there. Listen to our chat!
B-Lines “Houseplants” This song is about shit-talking to your plants instead of gossiping among your friends. What could Ryan’s plants tell me, I wonder?
B-Lines “It Rains” A succinct ode to Vancouver.
Ryan tells me that B-Lines are playing a show this week at Lanalou’s on December 21st. “It’s the Kingfisher Bluez Christmas Party. Capitol 6, Dead Ghosts, Slam Dunk, Village and Pups are also playing.” See you there!

the interview show: Needles//Pins
There’s only two more shows left for 2012 and this week I thought I’d release my chat with local party punk band Needles//Pins.
If you have a beer with N//P, beware of the following: 1) Tony X will steal your beer, 2) Adam Ess will be super eager to chat but then realize that he has to pee and complain about holding it through the entire interview and finally 3) after talking to you for more than 30 minutes, Macey will promptly forget your name.
Don’t take it personally and just listen to our crazy chat.
Needles//Pins “Drop It” One of the bands more popular tracks.
Needles//Pins “12:34” This number has special meaning to drummer Macey. In fact, she has it tattooed on the inside of her bottom lip. Ouch.
Adam Ess told me the next N//P gig will be January 26th with the Ballantynes at the Astoria. Mark it on your calendar and see you there!
