PTSD disrupts the lives of average individuals as well as combat veterans who have served their country. The person experiencing the trauma often then impacts the lives of his/her family, friends, and workplaces. PTSD does not distinguish between race, age or gender and often goes undiagnosed. Even with proper diagnosis, many individuals do not know where to turn to get help. Society needs to understand the aftermath of trauma especially combat trauma and how to prepare for warriors when they return home.
Janet Seahorn, Ph.D has been a teacher, administrator, and consultant for over thirty years. She currently teaches a variety of classes on neuroscience and literacy as an adjunct professor for Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. Jan has a Ph.D in Human Development and Organizational Systems. Her background includes an in-depth understanding of human development and neuroscience research as well as effective practices in organizational systems and change. She conducts workshops on the neuroscience of learning and memory, the effects of “at-risk” environments (i.e., poverty), brain development, and researched-based instructional practices. Jan has worked with many organizations in the business and educational communities in creating and sustaining healthy, dynamic environments. Today I finally talk about something you have all been asking for! Complex PTSD. What is it and what do we do if we have it?
Now complex PTSD isn't something that is in the DSM. The Veteran's Administration and the center for PTSD lobbied to get this diagnosis put into the DMS 5 but the APA did not agree, and so we only have PTSD (mild, moderate, & severe) to work with. That doesn't meant that we cannot better understand the depths of PTSD and what repeated trauma can do to a person and their life.
When someone is repeatedly traumatized (ie. in war, abused for long periods of time, etc) it can make relationships afterward very difficult. They state that those who suffer from complex PTSD have more issues with:
1. emotion regulation
2.forgetting traumatic events completely
3. self-perception (feel very ashamed and guilty for struggling with this and not feeling "okay" like everyone else).
4. Distorted perceptions of their perpetrators
5. Relations with others (they may isolate or struggle to trust people)
6. Their own sense of meaning (may feel hopeless and struggle to have faith).
The treatment is pretty much the same as it is for PTSD, however there is an intense focus on interpersonal difficulties. They focus on this because those with repeated trauma have more trouble trusting, not lashing out, feeling safe, and managing their feelings of shame and guilt. By focusing on these things, we can hopefully help those with Complex PTSD better understand their situation and manage their relationships.
I hope this not only helps those of use struggling with this, but also raise awareness for the seriousness of it so it can be taught and better managed by professionals.

Posttraumatic stress disorder
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that can develop after a person is exposed to one or more traumatic events, such as sexual assault, warfare, traffic collisions, terrorism or other threats on a person's life. Symptoms include disturbing thoughts or feelings related to past traumas intruding on the present, avoidance of trauma-related cues, alterations in how a person thinks and feels about themselves and the world, and hyperarousal, persisting for more than a month after a traumatic event.
Most people who have experienced a traumatizing event will not develop PTSD. People who experience interpersonal trauma (e.g., sexual assault, child abuse) are more likely to develop PTSD, as opposed to people who experience non-assault based trauma such as accidents and natural disasters. Children are less likely than adults to develop PTSD after trauma, especially if they are under ten years of age.

Tech N9ne
Aaron Dontez Yates (born November 8, 1971), better known by his stage name Tech N9ne (pronounced Tech Nine), is an American rapper. In 1999, Yates and business partner Travis O'Guin founded the record label Strange Music. He has sold over two million albums and has had his music featured in film, television, and video games. In 2009, he won the Left Field Woodie award at the mtvU Woodie Awards.
His stage name originated from the TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun, a name given to him by rapper Black Walt due to his fast-rhyming Chopper style. Yates later applied a deeper meaning to the name, claiming that it stands for the complete technique of rhyme, with "tech" meaning technique and "nine" representing the number of completion.
Early life
In 1971, Yates was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He began rapping at a very early age, and would rap the letters of his name in order to remember how to spell it. He never met his father, and his mother suffered from epilepsy and lupus when he was a child, which emotionally affected him and inspired him to "search for God". He would explore abandoned buildings with his best friend, hoping to catch a ghost on film. He attended Southwest High School in Kansas City.

Society needs to understand the aftermath of trauma especially combat trauma and how to prepare for warriors when they return home. Today I finally talk about something you have all been asking for! Complex PTSD. What is it and what do we do if we have it? Now complex PTSD isn't something that is in the DSM. The Veteran's Administration and the center for PTSD lobbied to get this diagnosis put into the DMS 5 but the APA did not agree, and so we only have PTSD (mild, moderate, & severe) to work with. That doesn't meant that we cannot better understand the depths of PTSD and what repeated trauma can do to a person and their life. When someone is repeatedly traumatized (ie. in war, abused for long periods of time, etc) it can make relationships afterward very difficult. Today I finally talk about something you have all been asking for! Complex PTSD. What is it and what do we do if we have it?
Now complex PTSD isn't something that is in the DSM. When someone is repeatedly traumatized (ie. in war, abused for long periods of time, etc) it can make relationships afterward very difficult. They state that those who suffer from complex PTSD have more issues with:
1. emotion regulation
2.forgetting traumatic events completely
3. self-perception (feel very ashamed and guilty for struggling with this and not feeling "okay" like everyone else).
4. Distorted perceptions of their perpetrators
5. Relations with others (they may isolate or struggle to trust people)

The treatment is pretty much the same as it is for PTSD, however there is an intense focus on interpersonal difficulties. They focus on this because those with repeated trauma have more trouble trusting, not lashing out, feeling safe, and managing their feelings of shame and guilt. By focusing on these things, we can hopefully help those with Complex PTSD better understand their situation and manage their relationships.
I hope this not only helps those of use struggling with this, but also raise awareness for the seriousness of it so it can be taught and better managed by professionals.

Today I finally talk about something you have all been asking for! Complex PTSD. What is it and what do we do if we have it?
Now complex PTSD isn't something that is in the DSM. The Veteran's Administration and the center for PTSD lobbied to get this diagnosis put into the DMS 5 but the APA did not agree, and so we only have PTSD (mild, moderate, & severe) to work with. That doesn't meant that we cannot better understand the depths of PTSD and what repeated trauma can do to a person and their life.
When someone is repeatedly traumatized (ie. in war, abused for long periods of time, etc) it can make relationships afterward very difficult. They state that those who suffer from complex PTSD have more issues with:
1. emotion regulation
2.forgetting traumatic events completely
3. self-perception (feel very ashamed and guilty for struggling with this and not feeling "okay" like everyone else).
4. Distorted perceptions of their perpetrators
5. Relations with others (they may isolate or struggle to trust people)
6. Their own sense of meaning (may feel hopeless and struggle to have faith).
