Marc Mac from 4hero steps up to the Far Out turntables to drop a heavyweight selection of Brazilian classics past, present and future for this, the second volume of ‘Brazilika’.
Featuring an exclusive new track from Marc (Natures Plan ‘Broken Samba’), this edition of ‘Brazilika’ contains a barrage of Brazilian breaks and slamming sambas all mixed-up by one of the UK’s most in-demand producers.
4hero present ‘Brazilika’ is the second in the series and follows on from Kenny Dope presents ‘Brazilika’ that was released to great acclaim in 2004 and celebrated 10 years of Far Out. After Kenny’s mix it didn’t take us long to figure out that it was Marc’s turn to grace the decks as 4hero’s relationship with Far Out goes back to the early days of the label. Marc ‘s output for the label is quite prodigious – two remixes of Marcos Valle tracks - ‘Para De Fazer’ & ‘Valeu’, one of Azymuth ‘Laranjeiras’ as well as a collaboration with Grupo Batuque, ‘The Samba’ that is featured on the compilation. Marc has also recorded three 12”s for Far Out under the guise Natures Plan – ‘Smile’, ‘Somewhere Beyond’ and the seminal ‘Without Words’ that featured Ed Motta yet here we have a brand new Natures Plan exclusive for this CD – the Balearic broken beat gem ‘Broken Samba’.
Marc Mac is best known for being part of the seminal future-jazz act 4hero who produced two classic albums for Gilles Peterson’s Talkin’ Loud label – ‘Two Pages’ and ‘Creating Patterns’, and who are set to release a new album this autumn. Marc recently released an album under the pseudonym ‘Visioneers’ - ‘Dirty Old Hip Hop’ on BBE Records. He has produced and co-written tracks with Jill Scott, Ultra Nate, Terry Callier, Ursula Rucker, Mark Murphy, Ed Motta, and Azymuth amongst many others.
Alongside Marc’s collaboration with Grupo Batuque and his new Natures Plan track he has dug deep in the vaults and selected his personal favourite Far Out tracks for ‘4hero presents Brazilika’. Both classic sambas and bossas from the likes of Milton Nascimento, Antonio Adolfo and Joyce are featured as well as cutting-edge dancefloor Brazil-tronica in the form of firing jams from Incognito, Mark Pritchard, Offworld & Troubleman. Azymuth are clearly a favourite with Marc as they surface four times – the sonorous ‘Morning’ helps ease us into the mix whilst Mark Pritchard’s remix of ‘Pieces of Ipanema’ & the original version of ‘Roda Piao’ really kick us into the dance whilst ‘Tudo Que Voce Podia Ser’ is a reminder of the diversity of the Azymuth sound.

4hero are an electronic music group from Dollis Hill, London, comprising producers Mark "Marc Mac" Clair & Dennis "Dego" McFarlane. While the band is often cited as "4 Hero" or "4-Hero", the name is presented as "4hero" on their own albums and websites.
4hero are known as early pioneers of breakbeat hardcore and drum and bass music, and the group obtained a Mercury Music Prize nomination for their 1998 album Two Pages. More recently, on their 2007 album, Play with the Changes, 4hero has experimented with downtempo and nu jazz. Marc Mac and Dego continue to produce music as 4hero as well as a variety of other aliases they've developed over the years.
4hero had a show on Sunday nights on Kiss 100 FM 1am to 3am called R Solutions, which ran from 1998 to 2001.
Style
4hero's style was initially uptempo breakbeat, house and techno, and has progressed to breakbeat hardcore, oldschool jungle, and drum and bass. Comparisons have been drawn between them and East London band Shut Up and Dance, with both bands evolving in the early 1990s as a rapprochement between the breakbeat-driven African-diasporic musical structures of hip-hop and reggae, and the dark, European reconstruction of the techno sound popularised by the likes of Joey Beltram, CJ Bolland and Mundo Muzique. 4hero both embraced the dynamics of populist rave culture, and maintained an avant-garde status as innovative and experimental producers. They trailblazed genre-crossing studio techniques such as timestretching and pitch-shifting.

Milton Nascimento ‘Saidas e Bandeiras’ Marc Mac from 4hero steps up to the Far Out turntables to drop a heavyweight selection of Brazilian classics past, present and future for this, the second volume of ‘Brazilika’. Featuring an exclusive new track from Marc (Natures Plan ‘Broken Samba’), this edition of ‘Brazilika’ contains a barrage of Brazilian breaks and slamming sambas all mixed-up by one of the UK’s most in-demand producers. 4hero present ‘Brazilika’ is the second in the series and follows on from Kenny Dope presents ‘Brazilika’ that was released to great acclaim in 2004 and celebrated 10 years of Far Out. After Kenny’s mix it didn’t take us long to figure out that it was Marc’s turn to grace the decks as 4hero’s relationship with Far Out goes back to the early days of the label. Marc ‘s output for the label is quite prodigious – two remixes of Marcos Valle tracks - ‘Para De Fazer’ & ‘Valeu’, one of Azymuth ‘Laranjeiras’ as well as a collaboration with Grupo Batuque, ‘The Samba’ that is featured on the compilation. Marc has also recorded three 12”s for Far Out under the guise Natures Plan – ‘Smile’, ‘Somewhere Beyond’ and the seminal ‘Without Words’ that featured Ed Motta yet here we have a brand new Natures Plan exclusive for this CD – the Balearic broken beat gem ‘Broken Samba’. Marc Mac is best known for being part of the seminal future-jazz act 4hero who produced two classic albums for Gilles Peterson’s Talkin’ Loud label – ‘Two Pages’ and ‘Creating Patterns’, and who are set to release a new album this autumn. Marc recently released an album under the pseudonym ‘Visioneers’ - ‘Dirty Old Hip Hop’ on BBE Records. He has produced and co-written tracks with Jill Scott, Ultra Nate, Terry Callier, Ursula Rucker, Mark Murphy, Ed Motta, and Azymuth amongst many others. Alongside Marc’s collaboration with Grupo Batuque and his new Natures Plan track he has dug deep in the vaults and selected his personal favourite Far Out tracks for ‘4hero presents Brazilika’. Both classic sambas and bossas from the likes of Milton Nascimento, Antonio Adolfo and Joyce are featured as well as cutting-edge dancefloor Brazil-tronica in the form of firing jams from Incognito, Mark Pritchard, Offworld & Troubleman. Marc Mac from 4hero steps up to the Far Out turntables to drop a heavyweight selection of Brazilian classics past, present and future for this, the second volume of ‘Brazilika’.
Featuring an exclusive new track from Marc (Natures Plan ‘Broken Samba’), this edition of ‘Brazilika’ contains a barrage of Brazilian breaks and slamming sambas all mixed-up by one of the UK’s most in-demand producers.
4hero present ‘Brazilika’ is the second in the series and follows on from Kenny Dope presents ‘Brazilika’ that was released to great acclaim in 2004 and celebrated 10 years of Far Out. After Kenny’s mix it didn’t take us long to figure out that it was Marc’s turn to grace the decks as 4hero’s relationship with Far Out goes back to the early days of the label. Marc ‘s output for the label is quite prodigious – two remixes of Marcos Valle tracks - ‘Para De Fazer’ & ‘Valeu’, one of Azymuth ‘Laranjeiras’ as well as a collaboration with Grupo Batuque, ‘The Samba’ that is featured on the compilation. Marc has also recorded three 12”s for Far Out under the guise Natures Plan – ‘Smile’, ‘Somewhere Beyond’ and the seminal ‘Without Words’ that featured Ed Motta yet here we have a brand new Natures Plan exclusive for this CD – the Balearic broken beat gem ‘Broken Samba’.
Marc Mac is best known for being part of the seminal future-jazz act 4hero who produced two classic albums for Gilles Peterson’s Talkin’ Loud label – ‘Two Pages’ and ‘Creating Patterns’, and who are set to release a new album this autumn. Marc recently released an album under the pseudonym ‘Visioneers’ - ‘Dirty Old Hip Hop’ on BBE Records. He has produced and co-written tracks with Jill Scott, Ultra Nate, Terry Callier, Ursula Rucker, Mark Murphy, Ed Motta, and Azymuth amongst many others.
Alongside Marc’s collaboration with Grupo Batuque and his new Natures Plan track he has dug deep in the vaults and selected his personal favourite Far Out tracks for ‘4hero presents Brazilika’. Both classic sambas and bossas from the likes of Milton Nascimento, Antonio Adolfo and Joyce are featured as well as cutting-edge dancefloor Brazil-tronica in the form of firing jams from Incognito, Mark Pritchard, Offworld & Troubleman. Azymuth are clearly a favourite with Marc as they surface four times – the sonorous ‘Morning’ helps ease us into the mix whilst Mark Pritchard’s remix of ‘Pieces of Ipanema’ & the original version of ‘Roda Piao’ really kick us into the dance whilst ‘Tudo Que Voce Podia Ser’ is a reminder of the diversity of the Azymuth sound.

Both classic sambas and bossas from the likes of Milton Nascimento, Antonio Adolfo and Joyce are featured as well as cutting-edge dancefloor Brazil-tronica in the form of firing jams from Incognito, Mark Pritchard, Offworld & Troubleman. Azymuth are clearly a favourite with Marc as they surface four times – the sonorous ‘Morning’ helps ease us into the mix whilst Mark Pritchard’s remix of ‘Pieces of Ipanema’ & the original version of ‘Roda Piao’ really kick us into the dance whilst ‘Tudo Que Voce Podia Ser’ is a reminder of the diversity of the Azymuth sound.

Drum & bass legends to receive special award at Best Of British
Fabio & Grooverider, the drum & bass pairing whose sets at Rage were the catalyst for the birth of jungle/drum & bass in the early '90s, are to be presented with the Outstanding Contribution award at DJ Mag's Best Of British event on Wednesday 16th December.
The Best Of British awards are at Heaven in central London, the very club where Fab & Groove held forth every Thursday at the start of the 1990s. Their mash-up sets of breakbeat hardcore, jungle tekno, sped-up hip-hop and bonus beat house rhythm tracks were instrumental in birthing drum & bass at the time.
Speeding up breakbeat cuts and chopping up breaks, the guys provided the space for a new scene to flourish. Producers such as Goldie, Jonny L, 4 Hero and Andy C were regulars down at Rage, and were influenced to start making tracks that Fab & Groove would play to the packed Heaven dancefloor.
This melting pot of post-rave creativity was the single most important incubation for the now-global sound of drum & bass, the gospel of which F&G; then carried on spreading through numerous BBC Radio 1 shows and club sets.
“Drum & bass is one of the most firin’, most creative music genres in the world,” said DJ Mag editor Carl Loben. “It’s a great British invention, effectively birthed in London town, and Fabio & Grooverider have been instrumental in its development. It's going to be an honour to present them with the Outstanding Contribution award at the Best Of British next week.”
Fab & Groove will also be playing an exclusive Rage-inspired DJ set at the Best Of British awards.

Brazilian police say four American Olympic swimmers — including one from the University of Georgia — fabricated their story of being robbed at gunpoint, according to news reports. The source said video footage showed at least one of the Olympic swimmers breaking down the door of a restroom and fighting with a security guard on the night of the alleged incident ...
