Actor Vincent Gardenia Visits For Some
4th of July Humor With
The Help Of His
Friend, Sal
Alba!
Yes,
.. I almost forgot what a "ham" my
Dad can be when "playing up to the camera" with his neighborhood buddy, actor Vincent Gardenia, who passed away on Dec. 9th,
1992,.. which would be exactly 22 years ago to the date of 3 days from now!,.. Dec. 9th, 2014. Both
Vincent & Dad now reside in
Heaven, where I'm sure both are entertaining angels & friends throughout their heavenly journeys . Dad & Vincent had some great times together, whereby Vincent would usually visit our home around the holidays.
Anyway, as long as this
Birthday Tribute goes out to my Dad, it goes without saying that Vincent enriched the lives he touched as well. Vincent played in many well known movies such as "
Moonstruck" with
Nicholas Cage &
Cher,.. and "
Bang the Drum Slowly" with
Robert De Niro to name a few, and even TV sitcom classics like "
All in the Family" or action TV drama shows like "
The Fugitive" with
David Jansen.
However, being on stage to perform "live" in the theater was his favorite! I recall back in my college days at
Quinnipiac University, Vincent was performing at a theater in nearby
New Haven, Ct., and not only was he super hospitable to grant myself and my date free passes to the theater play he performed in,.. but the "icing on the cake" was when we went back-stage to meet & greet Vincent after his performance while he introduced us to all the other actors & actresses in the play. It was really an impressionable moment at that time of my youth. And on a footnote of this video, I don't have the exact year it was recorded, other than to say it was originally recorded on a
Beta Max Tape.
Remember those?,.. that was even BEFORE the
VHS Tape format evolved. So this recording is ancient, (perhaps 30 yrs.), as well as this crackled tape that I was uncertain would even play since I actually have a Sony "Super-Beta
Recorder" from about 30 years ago that I have NOT used in at least a score! And today when cleaning out old storage boxes and finding a few old dusty beta tapes, I saw one simply labeled "Vincent Gardenia's visit on the 4th of July!" (No Year Shown!). So I popped it into my ancient Sony Super-Beta
VCR that still sits as part of my entertainment system, and it it worked!!!
Thus. a star is born,.. or I should say resurrected! :) :) :)
To both my Dad & Vincent, who shared many toasts over the dinner table,.. would raise their glasses in the air to toast to: "
Alla Famiglia!"
May one day the family join all of us for a toast in the
Heavens above.

Alas, Dad shows his "clowning around" side in this silly video while playing up to Vincent,. humor of which Dad always allowed time for no matter how busy life came to be.
Today Dad would have been 94 yrs.old. "
Happy 94th Dad!" :)~ "
Keep The Faith!" :)~
