ECT2
Protein ECT2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ECT2 gene.
Function
The protein encoded by this gene is a transforming protein that is related to Rho-specific exchange factors and yeast cell cycle regulators. The expression of this gene is elevated with the onset of DNA synthesis and remains elevated during G2 and M phases. In situ hybridization analysis showed that expression is at a high level in cells undergoing mitosis in regenerating liver. Thus, this protein is expressed in a cell cycle-dependent manner during liver regeneration, and is thought to have an important role in the regulation of cytokinesis.

Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2
Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) also known as CD332 (cluster of differentiation 332) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the FGFR2 gene residing on chromosome 10. FGFR2 is a receptor for fibroblast growth factor.
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor receptor family, where amino acid sequence is highly conserved between members and throughout evolution. FGFR family members differ from one another in their ligand affinities and tissue distribution. A full-length representative protein consists of an extracellular region, composed of three immunoglobulin domains, a single hydrophobic membrane-spanning segment and a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase domain. The extracellular portion of the protein interacts with fibroblast growth factors, setting in motion a cascade of downstream signals, ultimately influencing mitogenesis and differentiation. This particular family member is a high-affinity receptor for acidic, basic and/or keratinocyte growth factor, depending on the isoform.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is one of the oldest treatments in psychiatry. It can be dramatically effective, especially in the treatment of severe mood disorders. It is also a treatment which can inspire fear and mistrust in the general public. A history of overuse coupled with negative portrayals of ECT in the popular media have contributed to this; as a consequence, access to this life-saving treatment has become more limited. A history of overuse coupled with negative portrayals of ECT in the popular media have contributed to this; as a consequence, access to this life-saving treatment has become more limited.
At The Royal, we have an active ECT service which provides treatment to more than 100 individual patients per year. In this presentation, we will introduce you to the physician leader of ECT and some of our nursing staff. We will take you through the modern ECT procedure and highlight recent developments introduced to reduce the side effects of the procedure. Stories of patients who have been through the treatment and contributed to our service delivery will form a central part of the presentation.

Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large and complex suite of anthropogenic compounds that have recently become the focus of the regulatory community, due in large part to their perceived risks to human health and the environment. Their ubiquitous presence, coupled with their complex physical and chemical properties, have led to significant challenges in their subsequent remediation and removal from the environment, including from surface and groundwaters.
This presentation will include:
- A look into physical and chemical properties of PFAS;
- A review of the current applied technologies and their respective efficacies and applications;
- Focused discussions on the application of IX technologies;
- A brief IX application case study;

Regenerable ion exchange resins and foam fractionation are two PFAS treatment technologies that have the ability to separate PFAS from a bulk liquid stream and concentrate them into a low volume waste stream that can be economically processed with a destruction technology. This presentation presents case studies on how regenerable ion exchange resins and foam fractionation have been applied by ECT2 to PFAS-impacted groundwater, leachate, and industrial waters to minimize waste and meet water discharge requirements. The resulting minimal waste streams can be further treated with a destruction technology to achieve complete onsite PFAS management. The second half of the presentation will review the pros and cons of various destruction technologies for destroying PFAS in regenerable ion exchange still bottoms and foam fractionate. Pilot and bench scale data will be presented on the PFAS destruction efficacy of electrochemical oxidation, plasma, UV sulfite treatment, supercritical water oxidation, and hydrothermal alkaline treatment.

He maintains an active clinical and teaching role at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) where he serves as Senior Medical Advisor. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is one of the oldest treatments in psychiatry. It can be dramatically effective, especially in the treatment of severe mood disorders. It is also a treatment which can inspire fear and mistrust in the general public. A history of overuse coupled with negative portrayals of ECT in the popular media have contributed to this; as a consequence, access to this life-saving treatment has become more limited.
At The Royal, we have an active ECT service which provides treatment to more than 100 individual patients per year. In this presentation, we will introduce you to the physician leader of ECT and some of our nursing staff. We will take you through the modern ECT procedure and highlight recent developments introduced to reduce the side effects of the procedure. Stories of patients who have been through the treatment and contributed to our service delivery will form a central part of the presentation.

Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large and complex suite of anthropogenic compounds that have recently become the focus of the regulatory community, due in large part to their perceived risks to human health and the environment. Their ubiquitous presence, coupled with their complex physical and chemical properties, have led to significant challenges in their subsequent remediation and removal from the environment, including from surface and groundwaters.
This presentation will include:
- A look into physical and chemical properties of PFAS;
- A review of the current applied technologies and their respective efficacies and applications;
- Focused discussions on the application of IX technologies;
- A brief IX application case study;
- Lifecycle cost evaluations/comparisons for GAC, IX, and Membrane technologies for several example applications.
The aim of this presentation is to provide those in attendance with an overview of PFAS treatment options, the pros and cons of each, and the process for selecting the optimum PFAS removal technology for a given application.

Regenerable ion exchange resins and foam fractionation are two PFAS treatment technologies that have the ability to separate PFAS from a bulk liquid stream and concentrate them into a low volume waste stream that can be economically processed with a destruction technology. This presentation presents case studies on how regenerable ion exchange resins and foam fractionation have been applied by ECT2 to PFAS-impacted groundwater, leachate, and industrial waters to minimize waste and meet water discharge requirements. The resulting minimal waste streams can be further treated with a destruction technology to achieve complete onsite PFAS management. The second half of the presentation will review the pros and cons of various destruction technologies for destroying PFAS in regenerable ion exchange still bottoms and foam fractionate. Pilot and bench scale data will be presented on the PFAS destruction efficacy of electrochemical oxidation, plasma, UV sulfite treatment, supercritical water oxidation, and hydrothermal alkaline treatment.
