Mr Riggs was charged on Tuesday following the discovery of the skeletal remains of his wife on Sunday at a home at Margate, north of Brisbane.

The remains were found when a man began excavating the yard in preparation for building a retaining wall.

He alerted police who took over the property in a three-day operation that ended with charges being laid.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ben Fadian wouldn't confirm how the Margate address was linked to Ms Riggs.

But the yard had been searched in the past.

Police are now investigating whether or not the body was buried there after their search.

The reaction of Ms Riggs' family to the news was mixed.

"The reaction from her family is mixed. They are in some way relieved ... but there is a court process they have to go through," Detective Senior Sergeant Fadian said.
