Breaking the Code is a 1986 play by Hugh Whitemore about British mathematician Alan Turing, who was a key player in the breaking of the German Enigma code at Bletchley Park during World War II and founder of computer science. The play thematically links Turing's cryptographic activities with his attempts to grapple with his homosexuality.
It was adapted as a 1996 television film directed by Herbert Wise with Derek Jacobi reprising his stage role as Turing.
Following a run in the London West End beginning in November 1986, the play ran on Broadway in New York City from November 15, 1987, to April 10, 1988, in both cases starring Derek Jacobi. The Broadway production also featured Jenny Agutter in the role of Pat Green. William A. Henry III, writing in Time magazine, described the play as "elegant and poignant". The Broadway production was nominated for three Tony Awards including Best Actor in a Play, Best Featured Actor in a Play, and Best Direction of a Play, and for two Drama Desk awards, for Best Actor and Best Featured Actor. Following Jacobi's departure, the London production transferred to the Comedy Theatre with John Castle as Turing.
A biography of the English mathematician Alan Turing, who was one of the inventors of the digital computer and one of the key figures in the breaking of the Enigma code, used by the Germans to send secret orders to their U-boats in World War II. Turing was also a homosexual in Britain at a time when this was illegal, besides being a security risk. Adapted for Television Hugh Whitemore wrote a shortened version of the play for television. This was filmed in late 1995, as a production of THE DRAMA HOUSE and WGBH BOSTON for BBC NORTH.The first transmission, to my knowledge, was on 17 September 1996 in Canada, by Showcase Television. It was shown in the United States as a Masterpiece Theater production on 2 February 1997. The first British transmission was on BBC1, 5 February 1997. Filmed ...

Overlapping four-note sequences are common in rock, but tackling them with alternate picking is a challenge for even the best players. In this lesson we're going to find out exactly how it's done with an iconic lick from Vai's "Crossroads" performance. Did Mikey from the Life Cereal commercial really die by eating Pop Rocks and Coke? From Steve's 1987 Guitar World interview: "I'm playing all my parts," says Steve, "and when the other guy goes into his classical fast thing, that's me, too." http://bit.ly/1gikC2C And for slow-motion, tablature, and more, grab the Pickslanting Primer! http://www.troygrady.com
