In this series of videos I cover a number of variations on the twelve bar blues. Over the years, various musicians have modified the 12 bar blues in order to make it a little more interesting and unique. So I plan to cover a whole bunch of different variations or modifications or changes that are often used over the 12 bar blues. Some are quite simple and only involve one or two chord changes, but others are more complex and jazzy
In this lesson I cover the 1930's Style Blues. Essentially the only different between this one and the Quick Change Blues is that you V and IV in bars 9 and 10 become a II and V.

I had a great time partying and performing in Dhermi, Vlorë, Albania! I arrived in Dhërmi by bus from Saranda. This bus takes the SH8 highway route (it goes all the way to north Albania). The bus left at 11am in the morning and arrived in Dhermi at around 1pm. The main road that connects from SH8 to Dhermi is called Rruga Perivolo. Most hotels and airbnbs are along Rruga Perivolo, which starts at the top of the SH8 and ends at the beach. My airbnb was about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop located on the SH8 and Rruga Perivolo corner, and 10 minute walk to the beach.
Dhermi is a small beach town that is located south of Tirana and Vlorë (Vlora) by about 5 and 3 hours each, and north of Saranda. It is about 30-45 mins by bus from Himara (Himare). I have heard there is an hourly shuttle bus between Dhërmi and Himarë, but I did not use it. Some other nearby beaches and towns are Drymades, Palasë, Jal (Jala), Vuno, Gjipe, Llagora Pass and Porto Palermo. I would suggest to stay in Dhermi if you do not have a car. If you are staying at the Sea Turtle camping in Drymades, you can actually get off at the Dhermi stop as well and walk down Rruga Perivolo and veer right down the path instead of left which takes you to Dhermi's beach and strip.
I really wanted to visit nearby Jal and Gjipe, but I was not able to because I did not have a car. It is really difficult to visit nearby towns without a car unless you hitchhike, do a lot of long walking or are willing to pay for a taxi that will probably cost at least 20 euro to visit these neighbor towns only 10-15 minutes away by car! Sucks! I really really wanted to check out Folie Marine (or is it Folie Marina ??) because it seems like the best night club north of nightclubs in Sarande. I have seen so many beautiful pics from Prive Lounge as well on Instagram. But unfortunately, not having a car and being on a budget greatly held me back. While I was in Dhermi, I spent most of my time partying at Havana Beach Bar. It was the most busy bar. I also performed there so it has a very special place in my heart. You can see my show in my other Dhermi vlogs.
Last thing I want to say is that there is a 2nd Havana Beach Bar location in Palase, so it might seem like the club is not as busy and happening in my videos compared to other videos you have seen about Havana Beach Bar online, and that is because the videos you see online are from the location in Palase. I just wanted to clarify that. The Dhermi location is definitely more quiet and not as much as a big DJ party as the Palase location.
I can't wait to go back to Dhermi and visit all the nearby places I wanted to visit so much but was not able to. Të dua Dhermi!

Bar
A bar (also known as a saloon or a tavern or sometimes a pub or club, referring to the actual establishment, as in pub bar or club bar etc.) is a retail business establishment that serves alcoholic beverages, such as beer, wine, liquor, cocktails, and other beverages like mineral water and soft drinks and often sell snack foods, like crisps or peanuts, for consumption on premises. Some types of bars, such as pubs, may also serve food from a restaurant menu.
Bars provide stools or chairs that are placed at tables or counters for their patrons. Some bars have entertainment such as a live band, Bars that offer entertainment or live music are often referred to as music bars, live venues, or nightclubs. Types of bars range from inexpensive dive bars to elegant places of entertainment often accompanying restaurants for dining.
Many bars have a discount period, designated a "happy hour" to encourage off-peak-time patronage. Bars that fill to capacity sometimes implement a cover charge or a minimum drink purchase requirement during their peak hours. Bars may have bouncers to ensure patrons are of legal age, to eject drunk or fighting patrons, and to collect cover charges. Such bars often feature entertainment, which may be a live band, vocalist, comedian, or disc jockey playing recorded music.

Twelve-bar blues
The 12-bar blues or blues changes is one of the most prominent chord progressions in popular music. The blues progression has a distinctive form in lyrics, phrase, chord structure, and duration. In its basic form, it is predominantly based on the I-IV-V chords of a key.
The blues can be played in any key. Mastery of the blues and rhythm changes are "critical elements for building a jazz repertoire".
Structure
In the key of C, one basic blues progression (E from above) is as follows. (For the most commonly used patterns see "Variations" section below.)
Chords may be also represented with a few different notation systems. A basic example of the progression would look like this, using T to more pop songs which thus often have a blues sound even without using the classical 12-bar form.)
Using said notations, the chord progression outlined above can be represented as follows.
The first line takes four bars, as do the remaining two lines, for a total of twelve bars. However, the vocal or lead phrases, though they often come in threes, do not coincide with the above three lines or sections. This overlap between the grouping of the accompaniment and the vocal is part of what creates interest in the twelve bar blues.

ZZ Top
ZZ Top /ˈziːziːtɒp/ is an American rock band that formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. The band comprises guitarist and lead vocalist Billy Gibbons (the band's leader, main lyricist, and musical arranger), bassist and co-lead vocalist Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard. One of the few major label recording groups to have held the same lineup for more than 40 years, ZZ Top has been praised by critics and fellow musicians alike for their technical mastery. Of the group, music writer Cub Koda said, "As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America's finest blues guitarists working in the arena rock idiom [...] while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support."
Since the release of the band's debut album in January 1971, ZZ Top has become known for its strong blues roots and humorous lyrical motifs, relying heavily on double entendres and innuendo. ZZ Top's musical style has changed over the years, beginning with blues-inspired rock on their early albums, then incorporating new wave, punk rock, and dance-rock, with heavy use of synthesizers. The band has had global album sales in excess of 50 million as of 2014.

Performing abroad at Havana Bar in Dhërmi!
I had a great time partying and performing in Dhermi, Vlorë, Albania! I arrived in Dhërmi by bus from Saranda. This bus takes the SH8 highway route (it goes all the way to north Albania). The bus left at 11am in the morning and arrived in Dhermi at around 1pm. The main road that connects from SH8 to Dhermi is called Rruga Perivolo. Most hotels and airbnbs are along Rruga Perivolo, which starts at the top of the SH8 and ends at the beach. My airbnb was about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop located on the SH8 and Rruga Perivolo corner, and 10 minute walk to the beach. Dhermi is a small beach town that is located south of Tirana and Vlorë (Vlora) by about 5 and 3 hours each, and north of Saranda. It is about 30-45 mins by bus from Himara (Himare). In this series of videos I cover a number of variations on the twelve bar blues. Over the years, various musicians have modified the 12 bar blues in order to make it a little more interesting and unique. So I plan to cover a whole bunch of different variations or modifications or changes that are often used over the 12 bar blues. Some are quite simple and only involve one or two chord changes, but others are more complex and jazzy
In this lesson I cover the 1930's Style Blues. Essentially the only different between this one and the Quick Change Blues is that you V and IV in bars 9 and 10 become a II and V.

I had a great time partying and performing in Dhermi, Vlorë, Albania! I arrived in Dhërmi by bus from Saranda. This bus takes the SH8 highway route (it goes all the way to north Albania). The bus left at 11am in the morning and arrived in Dhermi at around 1pm. The main road that connects from SH8 to Dhermi is called Rruga Perivolo. Most hotels and airbnbs are along Rruga Perivolo, which starts at the top of the SH8 and ends at the beach. My airbnb was about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop located on the SH8 and Rruga Perivolo corner, and 10 minute walk to the beach.
Dhermi is a small beach town that is located south of Tirana and Vlorë (Vlora) by about 5 and 3 hours each, and north of Saranda. It is about 30-45 mins by bus from Himara (Himare). I have heard there is an hourly shuttle bus between Dhërmi and Himarë, but I did not use it. Some other nearby beaches and towns are Drymades, Palasë, Jal (Jala), Vuno, Gjipe, Llagora Pass and Porto Palermo. I would suggest to stay in Dhermi if you do not have a car. If you are staying at the Sea Turtle camping in Drymades, you can actually get off at the Dhermi stop as well and walk down Rruga Perivolo and veer right down the path instead of left which takes you to Dhermi's beach and strip.
I really wanted to visit nearby Jal and Gjipe, but I was not able to because I did not have a car. It is really difficult to visit nearby towns without a car unless you hitchhike, do a lot of long walking or are willing to pay for a taxi that will probably cost at least 20 euro to visit these neighbor towns only 10-15 minutes away by car! Sucks! I really really wanted to check out Folie Marine (or is it Folie Marina ??) because it seems like the best night club north of nightclubs in Sarande. I have seen so many beautiful pics from Prive Lounge as well on Instagram. But unfortunately, not having a car and being on a budget greatly held me back. While I was in Dhermi, I spent most of my time partying at Havana Beach Bar. It was the most busy bar. I also performed there so it has a very special place in my heart. You can see my show in my other Dhermi vlogs.
Last thing I want to say is that there is a 2nd Havana Beach Bar location in Palase, so it might seem like the club is not as busy and happening in my videos compared to other videos you have seen about Havana Beach Bar online, and that is because the videos you see online are from the location in Palase. I just wanted to clarify that. The Dhermi location is definitely more quiet and not as much as a big DJ party as the Palase location.
I can't wait to go back to Dhermi and visit all the nearby places I wanted to visit so much but was not able to. Të dua Dhermi!
