The 76-year-old man had stopped at the intersection of Station and Forster streets in the suburb of Norlane about 2pm on Monday when the two thieves struck.

One forced open the passenger side door and climbed into the vehicle, while the other wrenched open the driver's side door and dragged the man from the ute.

Once the elderly driver was out of his vehicle, they also demanded he hand over his wallet.

The victim complied before the two men drove off in his ute. He was uninjured but very shaken by the incident, according to police.

The stolen vehicle, a green 2007 Hilux tray with registration plate 1BX 4DK, has not been recovered.

Police said the male thieves were wearing black hoodies. One offender was described as about 175cm tall, skinny and aged in his 30s.

They are urging anyone who witnessed the carjacking or knows anything about the location of the ute to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
