The Governor of Florida is the head of the executive branch of Florida's state government and the commander-in-chief of the state's military forces. The governor has a duty to enforce state laws, and the power to either approve or veto bills passed by the Florida Legislature, to convene the legislature, and to grant pardons, except in cases of impeachment.
When Florida was first acquired by the United States, future president Andrew Jackson served as its military governor. Florida Territory was established in 1822, and five people served as governor over six distinct terms. The first territorial governor, William Pope Duval, served 12 years, the longest of any governor to date.
Since statehood in 1845 there have been 43 people who have served as governor, one of whom served two distinct terms. Three state governors have served two full four-year terms: William D. Bloxham, in two stints; and Reubin Askew and Jeb Bush, who each served their terms consecutively. Bob Graham almost served two terms, as he resigned with only three days left. The shortest term in office belongs to Wayne Mixson, who served three days following the resignation of his predecessor.
Florida i/ˈflɒrɪdə/ (Spanish for "flowery land") is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. The state is bordered to the west by the Gulf of Mexico, to the north by Alabama and Georgia, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the south by the Straits of Florida and the country of Cuba. Florida is the 22nd most extensive, the 3rd most populous, and the 8th most densely populated of the United States. Jacksonville is the most populous city in Florida, and the largest city by area in the contiguous United States. The Miami metropolitan area is the eighth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. Tallahassee is the state capital.
A peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida, it has the longest coastline in the contiguous United States, approximately 1,350 miles (2,170 km), and is the only state that borders both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Much of the state is at or near sea level and is characterized by sedimentary soil. The climate varies from subtropical in the north to tropical in the south. The American alligator, American crocodile, Florida panther, and manatee can be found in the Everglades National Park.
Richard Lynn Scott (born December 1, 1952) is an American businessman and politician who has been the 45th governor of Florida, since 2011. He is a member of the Republican Party of Florida.
Born in Bloomington, Illinois, Scott is a graduate of the University of Missouri, Kansas City, later receiving his law degree from Southern Methodist University's Dedman School of Law. He served in the United States Navy before starting his business career, joining the Dallas firm Johnson & Swanson, where he became partner. In 1987, at age 34, he co-founded Columbia Hospital Corporation with two business partners; this merged with Hospital Corporation of America in 1989, to form Columbia/HCA and eventually became the largest private for-profit health care company in the U.S.
He resigned as chief executive of Columbia/HCA in 1997, amid a controversy over the company's business and Medicare billing practices; the company ultimately admitted to fourteen felonies and agreed to pay the federal government over $600 million, which was the largest fraud settlement in US history. Scott was not implicated and no charges were levelled against him personally. Scott later became a venture capitalist.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) just gave one of the more painful television interviews in recent memory -- and, in the process, offered a case study in why Donald Trump’s rhetoric about Muslims is so dangerous. The interview took place on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and it began innocuously enough, with hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough asking Scott whether he planned to endorse a candidate for next Tuesday’s Republican primary in the state. Then Scarborough asked Scott about a major news item: Donald Trump’s statement during an interview with CNN Wednesday night that “I think Islam hates us.” Scarborough wanted to know whether Scott agreed with that sentiment. Scott dodged the question, saying that Florida is “the best melting pot in the world” but noting that he wanted to stop allowing...

To overcome the unwillingness of Congress to pass a bill to combat Zika, Representative David Jolly (R-Florida) decided to put the fear of God ‒ or, more specifically, disease-bearing mosquitoes ‒ into his fellow House lawmakers.“I rise today to talk about Zika,” Jolly began, holding a clear, plastic container filled with water on the House floor. “And I rise with about a hundred mosquitoes straight from Florida.” The Aedes aegypti mosquitoes he brought with him are not active carriers of the disease, he promised. “But they could be.”"Can you imagine, colleagues, the fear and anxiety in this chamber if these 100 mosquitoes were outside this jar, not inside this jar?" Jolly asked. "Members of Congress would run down the hall to the physician's office to be tested, they would spray themselv...

Florida governor fears Hurricane Hermine could spread Zika as experts warn the storm will make it harder for state to fight the virus
Florida Governor Rick Scott on Thursday issued a safety advisory ahead of Hurricane Hermine, adding that some residents should expect surges exceeding six feet and rainfall reaching as high as 10 inches. The National Hurricane Center upgraded Hermine from tropical storm status to a level one hurricane on Thursday. “At this time, we expect storm surge of upwards of six feet in some parts of our state,” Gov. Scott said in a statement Thursday. He encouraged residents in potentially affected areas to “avoid driving through flooded areas, monitoring local news stations for storm updates and evacuation notices, and seek shelter during severe weather.” ►Circle us on Google + http://goo.gl/TXeBfX ►Subscribe Channel http://goo.gl/mqt0wI ►Don't forget to Like * Comment * Share this video. --------...

Hospital prices vary widely, among different payers, within market areas, and across services categories. The actual price is very hard to discover in advance and is often unrelated to the quality of care. Patients who are uninsured, covered under high-deductible plans, or receiving out-of-network care are particularly vulnerable to being billed at much higher “list” prices. Join AEI as Florida Governor Rick Scott, a former hospital industry executive, outlines his proposal to provide more transparent information to consumers about the prices hospitals charge and the quality of care they deliver. An expert panel will then examine public policy issues involving information transparency, price disclosure, and consumer protection for hospital services. Join the conversation on Twitter with ...

Conservatives were largely in a celebratory mood after 1994 national elections, believing they were charting a course toward change. Future Florida Governor Jeb Bush said limited government was by no means inevitable and conservative successes were not guaranteed when he spoke to the Public Foundation on October 11, 1995. Bush lost the 1994 Florida election for Governor, but he won four years later and served two terms. Bush is among the nation's premier education reform thinkers. Bush is often mentioned as a possible candidate for President in 2016 but he has made no decision about whether to seek the office.
