An military airbase (sometimes referred to as a military airfield, military airport, air force station, air force base or short airbase) is an aerodrome used by a military force for the operation of military aircraft.
An airbase typically has some facilities similar to a civilian airport—for example air traffic control and firefighting. Some military aerodromes have passenger facilities; for example RAF Brize Norton in England has a terminal used by passengers for the Royal Air Force's flights by TriStar to the Falkland Islands. A number of military airbases also have a civil enclave for commercial passenger flights, e.g. Beijing Nanyuan Airport (China), Ibaraki Airport (Japan), Burlington International Airport (USA).
Some airbases have revetments, hardened aircraft shelters, or even underground hangars, to protect aircraft from enemy attack. Combat aircraft require storage of aircraft ordnance. An airbase may be defended by anti-aircraft weapons and force protection troops.
In baseball, a force is a situation when a baserunner is compelled (or forced) to vacate his time-of-pitch base—and thus try to advance to the next base—because the batter became a runner. A runner at first base is always forced to attempt to advance to second base when the batter becomes a runner. Runners at second or third base are forced only when all bases preceding their time-of-pitch base are occupied by other baserunners and the batter becomes a runner.
A forced runner's force base is the next base beyond his time-of-pitch base. Any attempt by fielders to put a forced runner out is called a force play. Think of forced runners as bumper cars. If with a runner on first, the batter hits a ground ball, the batter must run to first, and since two runners are not allowed to stay on one base at one time, the runner who was on first to begin with is now bumper-carred by the advancing batter over to second. If there already was a runner on second as well, that runner is now bumper-carred over to third, and so on. If a runner is bumper-carred over to the next base by the advancing batter or by another runner who was bumper-carred by the advancing batter, then that runner is considered to have been forced to advance to the next base. If, however, with a runner on third, for example, the batter hits a ground ball, the batter must run to first, but the runner on third, not having been bumper-carred by the batter, is not forced to advance and can stay where he is if he elects to.
Eielson Air Force Base (AFB) (IATA: EIL, ICAO: PAEI, FAA LID: EIL) is a United States Air Force base located approximately 26 miles (42 km) southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska and just southeast of Moose Creek, Alaska. It was established in 1943 as Mile 26 Satellite Field and taken off deployment in 2007. It has been a Superfund site since 1989.
Its host unit is the 354th Fighter Wing (354 FW) assigned to the Eleventh Air Force of the Pacific Air Forces. The 354 FW's primary mission is to support Red Flag – Alaska, a series of Pacific Air Forces commander–directed field training exercises for U.S. Forces, joint offensive counter-air, interdiction, close-air support, and large force employment training in a simulated combat environment.
Eielson AFB was named in honor of polar pilot Carl Ben Eielson. The 354 FW has been commanded by Brigadier General Mark D. Kelly.
Until 2007, Eielson was a front line base, deploying fighter and bomber units around the world and providing for the defense of Alaska. Because of BRAC 2005 the base went off deployment status in 2007. Its primary mission is to support Red Flag-Alaska, a series of Pacific Air Forces commander-directed field training exercises for U.S. Forces, joint offensive counter-air, interdiction, close-air support, and large force employment training in a simulated combat environment. These exercises are conducted on the Joint Pacific Alaskan Range complex with air operations flown out of the two bases. Alaska's size enables the military to have the largest air-ground training complex in America.
An air force, also known in some countries as an air army, is in the broadest sense, the national military organization that primarily conducts aerial warfare. More specifically, it is the branch of a nation's armed services that is responsible for aerial warfare as distinct from an army, navy, or a marine corps. Typically, air forces are responsible for gaining control of the air, carrying out strategic and tactical bombing missions, and providing support to land and naval forces.
The term "air force" may also refer to a tactical air force or numbered air force, which is an operational formation either within a national air force or comprising several air components from allied nations. Air forces typically consist of a combination of fighters, bombers, helicopters, transport planes and other aircraft.
Many air forces are also responsible for operations of the military space, intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), and communications equipment. Some air forces may command and control other air defence assets such as anti-aircraft artillery, surface-to-air missiles, or anti-ballistic missile warning networks and defensive systems. Some nations, principally Russia, the former Soviet Union and countries who modelled their militaries along Soviet lines, have an air defence force which is organizationally separate from their air force.
In physics, a force is any interaction that, when unopposed, will change the motion of an object. In other words, a force can cause an object with mass to change its velocity (which includes to begin moving from a state of rest), i.e., to accelerate. Force can also be described by intuitive concepts such as a push or a pull. A force has both magnitude and direction, making it a vector quantity. It is measured in the SI unit of newtons and represented by the symbol F.
The original form of Newton's second law states that the net force acting upon an object is equal to the rate at which its momentum changes with time. If the mass of the object is constant, this law implies that the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on the object, is in the direction of the net force, and is inversely proportional to the mass of the object
Related concepts to force include: thrust, which increases the velocity of an object; drag, which decreases the velocity of an object; and torque, which produces changes in rotational speed of an object. In an extended body, each part usually applies forces on the adjacent parts; the distribution of such forces through the body is the so-called mechanical stress. Pressure is a simple type of stress. Stress usually causes deformation of solid materials, or flow in fluids.

Now-retired Air Force Col. Harry Kieling – who narrowly missed being on the E-3B Sentry AWACS plane that crashed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in 1995 – is no stranger to aviation close-calls. Kieling, who flew A-10 Warthog attack planes before his stint with AWACS planes, earned his call-sign "Iceman" in 1991 when he had to land a Warthog on its belly after a malfunction in the jet's gun blew apart the front landing gear. Kieling has shared his story and the historical video footage of the malfunction and subsequent gear-up landing at Eielson Air Force Base in June 1991.

My assistant crew chief (also a Todd) and I went the extra mile on this airplane. This was right after getting a fresh coat of paint. We also painted the letters on the tires to give them that white letter tire look. We polished the hubcaps and the ladder to a mirror finish. It most likely was the sharpest A-10 in the inventory and our plane was selected to be the Wing Commander's plane. I traveled around to a few airshows with it during that time. I ended up getting Crew Chief of the year in 1989 for Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Much credit goes to my assistant crew chief for that! I make a short appearance at 41:08. :) Also, I had worked on F-16s (including the Thunderbirds) when I was stationed at Nellis AFB at Las Vegas from 1981-1983. Red Flag (or Bandera Roja in Spanish) is an advanced exercise of air combat training that takes place at Nellis Air Force Base (Nevada) and Eielson Base (Alaska). Since 1975, flight personnel of the US Air Force and other military branches of the United States and allies take part in the exercises, each of which is two weeks. Red Flag exercises are games very realistic aerial war, made four to six cycles per year by the 414 Squadron Combat Training Squadron 57. The goal is to train pilots of the United States, NATO and other countries allies to actual combat situations. This entails the use of hardware "enemy" and live ammunition for bombing exercises on the Polygon Test and Training Nevada.

Pioneer Alaskan aviation mechanic James T. Hutchison Sr. is interviewed during the late 1980s at his home in Fairbanks about his life, the people he knew, and his work throughout Alaska over the course of more than 50 years. In this segment, Hutchison describes his airplane crash between Kaltag and Unalaklet during the search mission for aviator Ben Eielson, playing basketball with Eielson, and Eielson's fatal crash in Siberia. In 1929, Eielson and mechanic Earl Borland died in an airplane crash while attempting to retrieve furs and evacuate crew from the cargo vessel “Nanuk,” which was trapped in ice off the north coast of Siberia. Hutchison also mentions the Lindberghs in Nome and pioneer Alaska aviators including Joe Crosson and Noel Wien. Hutchison was a master craftsman and worked as...
Everyone's leaving
The house is in mess
You and your magic friend
Chose to confront me folding the air into a dark affair
We need an air force
To gather the pieces, the love and the fear
I made your skin crawl on this night
Oh, my love
Lock up the doors
There's no easing the pain
Losing a life of games
Brought to impostures and comfort in death
You walk alone, my friend
We need an air force
To gather the pieces, the love and the fear
I made your skin crawl on this night
Oh, my love
Take off these sad clothes I need you to feel my despair Breaking the atmosphere
All of your talk of the dead will not stop
Breathe me like toxic love
We need an air force
To empty the streets with their naked machines
You made my skin crawl on this night
Oh, my love
We won't be air borne
Caught with the dust and the salt on the floor
We need an air force in this life
