Award-winning film and commercial director, Bob Giraldi brings an independent hand to everything he touches. One of the original "Mad Men," Giraldi was a creative director at the legendary Y&R; Ad Agency in the middle of the advertising creative revolution of the 70s. He left the agency DellaFemina & Partners in 1970, and started an incredible run of directing successful TV commercials; he has won every major award possible in that industry—earning him the distinction of being named as one of "101 Stars Behind 100 Years of Advertising."
In 2011, Giraldi was honored with the New York International Film Festival's first ever "Living Legend Award," which further recognized him as a prominent industry luminary.
His feature film, "Dinner Rush" with Danny Aiello, John Corbett and Sandra Bernhard, appeared on a number of 2001's Top 10 lists and was selected for the prestigious New Directors/New Films Series at MoMa.
Always hungry for something new, Giraldi threw his hat into the New York culinary scene by opening Jean Georges Vongerichten's namesake NYTimes 4-star restaurant, 'Jean Georges,' NYTimes 3-star 'Mercer Kitchen' as well as the original 'Jo Jo' & 'Vong' in NY; with its London and Hong Kong outposts. His Tuscan fare 'BREADTribeca' has earned 2 stars from The New York Times-- and 'Diablo Royale' has remained the popular taqueria among young people in the West Village. Both 'Gigino Trattoria' and 'Gigino at Wagner Park' have remained Italian favorites in Tribeca for over 17 years.
In 1995, Giraldi and his executive producer, Patti Greaney, created the original website; StarChefs.com, featuring celebrity chefs and cookbook authors. StarChefs.com continues to be the foremost website used by professionals and food aficionados.
Giraldi has been on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts cumulatively for over twenty years and is currently the Chair of SVA's MPS Live Action Short Film Program. The graduate program celebrates the true independent art of filmmaking, honoring first-time filmmakers, instructing them about the history of short film, and outfitting them with the creative, technical, and critical tools needed to impart their artistic visions.
Currently, Giraldi is in pre-production on the feature film, "Sustenance" written by Constance Mortell-- about the "farming wars" that deals with a young girl who becomes an obsessive activist, fighting against large-scale Agribusiness.
Never slowing down, he just wrapped a commercial shoot for Toyota featuring Raphael Saadiq and is slated to produce and direct a TV series for PBS in the Spring of 2013.
Giraldi lives in Manhattan and Montauk with his wife and daughter.

Bob Giraldi
Bob Giraldi (born January 17, 1939) is an American film and television director known for directing the film Dinner Rush and the music video for Michael Jackson's song "Beat It." His work has garnered many accolades, including several London International Awards, Cannes Advertising Awards, NY International Awards, Addy Awards, Chicago Film Festival Awards and hundreds of Clio Awards. He has also been named one of the "101 Stars Behind 100 Years of Advertising."
Early life
Giraldi was born in Paterson, New Jersey, to a working-class Italian-American family. He attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York on a basketball and baseball scholarship, graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Upon graduation, in 1960, he worked as a graphic designer at General Motors in Detroit. Shortly thereafter he returned to New York, where he spent the next nine years as an art director and creative supervisor at the advertising agency Young & Rubicam.
1965, he began teaching advertising at The School of Visual Arts in New York, and soon became the Chair of the Advertising Department. In 1968, Silas Rhodes appointed him the Assistant Director of the School. During the Vietnam War, the School was forced to make administrative changes, and Giraldi had to step down. However, he remained on the School's Board of Directors, and in 1981, directed and produced a film, "Burnt Umber", featuring a then-unknown actor Denzel Washington, for SVA's recruitment program.

I Love
"I Love" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Tom T. Hall. It was released in October 1973 as the only single from the album, For the People in the Last Hard Town. The song would be Hall's most successful single and was his fourth number one on the U.S. country singles chart. The single spent two weeks at the top and a total of 15 weeks on the chart. "I Love" was Hall's only entry on the Top 40 peaking at number 12.

I Love New York
I Love New York (stylized I ❤ NY) is both a logo and a song that are the basis of an advertising campaign and have been used since 1977 to promote tourism in New York City, and later to promote New York State as well. The trademarked logo, owned by New York State Empire State Development, appears in souvenir shops and brochures throughout the state, some licensed, many not. The song is the state song of New York.

The logo consists of the capital letter I, followed by a red heart symbol (❤), below which are the capital letters N and Y, set in a rounded slab serif typeface called American Typewriter.
In 1977, William S. Doyle, Deputy Commissioner of the New York State Department of Commerce, hired advertising agency Wells Rich Greene to develop a marketing campaign for New York State. Doyle also recruited Milton Glaser, a productive graphic designer to work on the campaign and create a design based on Wells Rich Greene's advertising campaign. Glaser's original sketch to accompany the agency's "I Love New York" slogan was conceived in a taxi over to a meeting for the campaign. It comprised the letter I and a heart shape followed by NY, all on the same line. As the idea developed he decided to stack the I and heart shape on a line above the NY characters, later stating that he may have been a "subliminally" influenced by Robert Indiana's LOVE pop art image.

Michael Jackson
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. Called the King of Pop, his contributions to music and dance, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.
The eighth child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his elder brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon as a member of the Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller" from his 1982 album Thriller, were credited with breaking down racial barriers and with transforming the medium into an art form and promotional tool. The popularity of these videos helped to bring the then-relatively-new television channel MTV to fame. His 1987 album Bad spawned the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror", and "Dirty Diana", becoming the first album to have five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. With videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream", he continued to innovate the medium throughout the 1990s, as well as forging a reputation as a touring solo artist. Beat It
"Beat It" is a song written and performed by American singer Michael Jackson and produced by Quincy Jones (with co-production by Jackson). It is the third single from the singer's sixth solo album, Thriller (1982). Eddie Van Halen played the song's distinctive overdriven guitar solo. While Van Halen was prevented by his record label from appearing in the music video, he did appear on stage with Jackson in Dallas during the Jackson brothers "Victory Tour." Following the successful chart performances of the Thriller singles "The Girl Is Mine" and "Billie Jean", "Beat It" was released on February 3, 1983 as the album's third single. The song was promoted with a short film that featured Jackson bringing two gangs together through the power of music and dance.
"Beat It" received the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, as well as two American Music Awards. It was inducted into the Music Video Producers Hall of Fame. The single, along with its music video, propelled Thriller into becoming the best-selling album of all time. The single was certified platinum in the United States in 1989. Rolling Stone placed "Beat It" on the 344th spot of its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". The song was also ranked number 81 on Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time".

In 2011, Giraldi was honored with the New York International Film Festival's first ever "Living Legend Award," which further recognized him as a prominent industry luminary.
His feature film, "Dinner Rush" with Danny Aiello, John Corbett and Sandra Bernhard, appeared on a number of 2001's Top 10 lists and was selected for the prestigious New Directors/New Films Series at MoMa.
Always hungry for something new, Giraldi threw his hat into the New York culinary scene by opening Jean Georges Vongerichten's namesake NYTimes 4-star restaurant, 'Jean Georges,' NYTimes 3-star 'Mercer Kitchen' as well as the original 'Jo Jo' & 'Vong' in NY; with its London and Hong Kong outposts. His Tuscan fare 'BREADTribeca' has earned 2 stars from The New York Times-- and 'Diablo Royale' has remained the popular taqueria among young people in the West Village. Both 'Gigino Trattoria' and 'Gigino at Wagner Park' have remained Italian favorites in Tribeca for over 17 years.
In 1995, Giraldi and his executive producer, Patti Greaney, created the original website; StarChefs.com, featuring celebrity chefs and cookbook authors. StarChefs.com continues to be the foremost website used by professionals and food aficionados.
Giraldi has been on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts cumulatively for over twenty years and is currently the Chair of SVA's MPS Live Action Short Film Program. The graduate program celebrates the true independent art of filmmaking, honoring first-time filmmakers, instructing them about the history of short film, and outfitting them with the creative, technical, and critical tools needed to impart their artistic visions.
Currently, Giraldi is in pre-production on the feature film, "Sustenance" written by Constance Mortell-- about the "farming wars" that deals with a young girl who becomes an obsessive activist, fighting against large-scale Agribusiness.

A prison film is a film genre concerned with prison life and often prison escape. These films range from acclaimed dramas examining the nature of prisons, such as Cool Hand Luke, Midnight Express, Brubaker, Escape from Alcatraz, The Shawshank Redemption, and Kiss of the Spider Woman to actioners like Lock Up and Undisputed, and even comedies satirizing the genre like Stir Crazy, Life, and Let's Go To Prison.
Themes repeatedly visited in the action films include escape attempts, gang activities inside the prison, guard and management cruelty, and an entire subgenre of films where the toughest prisoners are permitted (or forced) to engage in boxing matches or martial arts bouts, replete with high-stakes wagering on the outcomes. Janet Perlman's satirical graphic novel Penguins Behind Bars is a parody of the women in prison genre. It was later adapted by Perlman as an animated short which aired in the U.S. on Cartoon Network.

A prison film is a film genre concerned with prison life and often prison escape. These films range from acclaimed dramas examining the nature of prisons, such as Cool Hand Luke, Midnight Express, Brubaker, Escape from Alcatraz, The Shawshank Redemption, and Kiss of the Spider Woman to actioners like Lock Up and Undisputed, and even comedies satirizing the genre like Stir Crazy, Life, and Let's Go To Prison.
Themes repeatedly visited in the action films include escape attempts, gang activities inside the prison, guard and management cruelty, and an entire subgenre of films where the toughest prisoners are permitted (or forced) to engage in boxing matches or martial arts bouts, replete with high-stakes wagering on the outcomes.
