It is believed the man was a private treelopper engaged by a homeowner to remove branches and, in the process of doing that, has clipped the powerlines.

A spokesman for Energex said the incident had taken out power to 1,217 residents in the area.

A spokesman for Workplace Health and Safety Queensland said both it and the Electrical Safety Office were investigating the incident.

Police were yet to inform next of kin and were not releasing any details about the man.
