1.
Cheese from De Kaaskamer van
Amsterdam.
Not only will you find ALL the cheese here, they also have super tasty brown bread, juicy olives and delicious meats. If you want to stop by for a quick lunch, ask for a truffle cheese baguette.
2. Patatje Oorlog from any “snackbar”.
In
The Netherlands the “snackbar” is where you go to get your chips, and contrary to popular belief, Dutchies aren’t just about the mayonnaise. The best sauce comes with “patatje oorlog”, a mix of mayo, sate sauce and onions and it translates to war chips.
Manneken Pis is known to be one of the best places to get your fix.
3. Poffertjes from The Pancake
Bakery.
Poffertjes are basically baby pancakes covered in butter and powdered sugar.
Yum!
4. A burger from Burgerlijk.
You’ll definitely be able to get a decent burger in Amsterdam but Burgerlijk takes it to another level. Just make sure you’re hungry because their portions are
HUGE.
5. And if you’re still craving for more burger head toThe
Butcher.
Not only can you get an absolute beast of a burger here, they have a secret nightclub in the back.
6. Broodje haring from any fishmonger or street vendor.
Raw herring is a
Dutch specialty, if you can’t quite stomach it on its own, have it in a sandwich. Vishandel Molenaar in the middle of the
Albert Cuypmarkt is a local favourite.
7.
Eggs Benedict at
The Lobby.
The Lobby’s breakfast menu offers something for everyone but the Eggs Benedict really take it up a notch.
8. Stamppot at Haesje Claes.
Your trip to The Netherlands isn’t complete without some stamppot, which is essentially mashed potato with veg and a juicy sausage.
9.
Red Velvet cake at De Drie Graefjes.
The carrot cake is a delight too.
10. Algerian couscous at Rainarai.
If you’re doing your trip on the cheap, this is a great option as it’s excellent value for money and it makes a change from eating chips 24/7 (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
11. A kroket from a
FEBO wall.
The FEBO vending machines are scattered around the city and they’re pretty much a national treasure. For less than 2 euros you can get a fried snack like a kroket, which is the closest you’ll ever get to eating fried gravy.
12. Tapas and cured meets from art’otel’s 5&33.
Sharing food is never fun apart from at 5&33 where the platters are filled with delicious cheeses and meats. Definitely make sure you have a stroll around this place, there’s tons of funky furniture and cool art installations to check out.
13. Enchiladas from
Rosa’s Cantina.
Reserve a table if you’re keen to come here at the weekend, it can get a bit packed. Also, don’t forget to order some cocktails .
14. Saoto soup from Waterkant.
Unfortunately, the weather isn’t always sunny in Amsterdam but you’ll feel pretty summery when you walk into the Waterkant and feast on their delicacies from
Surinam.
15.
Cheese fondue at Bar Huf.
Bar Huf is a very cool hangout you could easily spend hours and hours in, so why not indulge in a gooey cheese fondue while you’re there?
16. Stroopwafels from street vendors.
You’ll find a ton of vendors selling XL stroopwafels, the smell alone is amazing.
17. Bitterballen from the Sky
Lounge.
You can’t visit The Netherlands without eating some bitterballen, which are basically mini krokets, so mini deep-fried gravy bites (not bad, right?).
Not only does the Sky Lounge have some of the best bitterballen in town, you’ll also enjoy a very Instagram-able view of Amsterdam.
18. Oysters from
Lion Noir.
If you fancy something a little sophisticated get yourself down to Lion Noir and stay after dinner because it gets a rock ‘n roll after hours.
19. A fancy sandwich at
Walem.
If you want a sandwich with a
difference, Walem is the place.
20. A hearty salad from
Nacional.
Salads are never fun, but the Nacional sure knows how to make them tasty and satisfying, and they do very classy cocktails.
21.
Sushi from Tomo Sushi.
Seriously the best sushi in town
.
22. And lastly wash it all down with a beer in Skek.
Skek is a fun and relaxed place to hang out, and if you’re still hungry order some bar snacks or a juicy burger (told you Amsterdam loves their burgers).
