"Standing Hampton" is Sammy Hagar's sixth solo studio album (ninth overall), his first after moving from Capitol Records to Geffen. It was his first album to achieve RIAA certification, eventually going platinum, and five of its singles charted in either the mainstream rock or pop singles charts.
The British version of the album was released with a bonus interview 45rpm called Conversations with Sammy Hagar.
Hagar has said that he was originally going to call this album "One Way To Rock". It was a British fan who told him of the term that came to be the title. In Cockney rhyming slang, a "Hampton" is a term for a penis. One that is "Standing", of course, would be a reference to an erection. This led to the cover art that shows a gentleman greeting a woman in various states of undress. The liner notes on the inner sleeve state that the cover graphics were inspired by the work of Surrealist painter Paul Delvaux.

"I'll Fall in Love Again" was used in the soundtrack to the film Vision Quest.
A couple of non-album tracks, "Don't Get Hooked" and "Satisfied", appeared as B-sides and have not been released in any other format since.
"There's Only One Way to Rock" went on to be one of Hagar's biggest solo hits and a signature tune. This song, along with "I Can't Drive 55", were the two Hagar songs that Van Halen consistently played when he joined the band.
A different version of the song "Heavy Metal" was used for the soundtrack for the animated movie Heavy Metal.
The lyrics to the song "Inside Lookin' In" refers to "ringin' just like one UXB". UXB is an acronym for an "unexploded bomb". No known references to the UK punk band UXB have ever been cited.
The lyrics to "Sweet Hitchhiker" refers to "Blaupunkt blastin' my favorite song". Blaupunkt refers to a popular brand of car stereo.
"Piece of My Heart" is a cover of the song originally recorded by Erma Franklin and made famous by Janis Joplin.

Summary:
This headlining gig by Sammy Hagar comes a few years after concluding his tenure in Montrose. At the end of a tour opening for Alvin Lee and Ten Years Later, the "Red Rocker" got to headline this Winterland gig, which was the Tenth Anniversary celebration of KSJO, the San Jose-based FM radio station that, at that time, had a hard rock format. A native West Coaster (he was born in Monterey), he seems genuinely excited to be playing to such a large crowd: "This is the loudest goddam audience I ever heard in my life!" he exclaims at one point.
An epic opening jam showcases the group's live chops before launching into "Red," a signature Hagar cut, and a set of rousing, beer-fueled rockers with a couple of ballads (namely, "Free Money" and "Little Star"). "Bad Motor Scooter," a song that Hagar wrote while frontman for Montrose in the early '70s, is the 17-minute centerpiece of the show, featuring ample guitar and keyboard solos, as well as spoken words of encouragement to his audience to get excited. Excited they would be: This show featured some famous guests, one of whom had never played with Hagar before. For "Rock Candy", guitarist Neal Schon of Journey came to the stage, and laid down fiery leads for the set's final three tracks. Although this was their first show together, Hagar and Schon would later collaborate as part of the short-lived HSAS (Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve, which also featured bassist Kenny Aaronson and drummer Michael Shrieve). Then, for "Gimme Some Lovin,'" Eddie Money and his guitarist, Jimmy Lyon, joined Hagar's ensemble onstage, bringing affairs to a whole new level. This show was also the second-ever performance of "Free Money" following their show shortly prior at the Concord Pavilion.
Hagar points out in the introduction to "I've Done Everything for You" that he was releasing a live album that had recently been recorded at Winterland, All Night Long, which would come out later that year. He would become a bigger star in the years to come, scoring a major solo hit in 1984 with "I Can't Drive 55" and taking over as the singer in Van Halen following David Lee Roth's departure in 1985. Although it's doubtful that a song like "Cruisin' and Boozin'" could ever be a hit today, Hagar continues to play sold-out shows with the Waboritas, and runs a successful tequila brand and restaurant chain, Cabo Wabo.

Hagar owns a nightclub and restaurant in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico called Cabo Wabo Cantina, where the video for the 1999 hit song "Mas Tequila" (from the Red Voodoo album) was filmed. Hagar plays at the club during his annual autumn "Birthday Bash". Hagar also has opened another nightclub in the franchise in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and markets a highly successful line of premium tequilas by the same Cabo Wabo name. Cabo Wabo Cantina opened in Fresno CA on August 29, 2008. However, it closed a few months later when the operator had a falling out with Hagar. In November 2009, a Cabo Wabo Cantina opened in the Planet Hollywood Hotel's Miracle Mile shopping mall, directly off the strip in Las Vegas.

Caught live at the UMB Pavilion Maryland Heights, Missouri (25 July 2006) on their sold out US tour. Sammy And The Wabos bring down the house with songs from their 2006 album, "Livin' It Up", as well as some of Sammy's famed solo work.

December 6, 1978 - it might have started before then but who could forget Sammy opening for Ted Nugent at the Checkerdome in St. Louis. Opening acts aren't supposed to have the audience in the palm of their hand but Sammy sure did. His honesty and sincerity captivated the audience.
The relationship between this artist and this city would never be the same. Almost 30 years later Sammy is still honest, still sincere and now more than ever, holds the St. Louis audience in the palm of his hand with a shot of Cabo in the other. Hagar (/heɪˈɡɑːr/ hay-GAR; Hebrew: הָגָר, Modern Hagar, Tiberian Hāgār, of uncertain originArabic: هاجر Hājar; Latin: Agar) is a biblical person in the Book of Genesis Chapter 16. She was an Egyptian handmaid of Sarai (Sarah), who gave her to Abraham "to wife" to bear a child. (The prefix "to", as in "took to wife", may indicate that the wife is a concubine or inferior wife.) This headlining gig by Sammy Hagar comes a few years after concluding his tenure in Montrose. A native West Coaster (he was born in Monterey), he seems genuinely excited to be playing to such a large crowd: "This is the loudest goddam audience I ever heard in my life!" he exclaims at one point.
An epic opening jam showcases the group's live chops before launching into "Red," a signature Hagar cut, and a set of rousing, beer-fueled rockers with a couple of ballads (namely, "Free Money" and "Little Star"). "Bad Motor Scooter," a song that Hagar wrote while frontman for Montrose in the early '70s, is the 17-minute centerpiece of the show, featuring ample guitar and keyboard solos, as well as spoken words of encouragement to his audience to get excited. Excited they would be: This show featured some famous guests, one of whom had never played with Hagar before. For "Rock Candy", guitarist Neal Schon of Journey came to the stage, and laid down fiery leads for the set's final three tracks. Although this was their first show together, Hagar and Schon would later collaborate as part of the short-lived HSAS (Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve, which also featured bassist Kenny Aaronson and drummer Michael Shrieve). Then, for "Gimme Some Lovin,'" Eddie Money and his guitarist, Jimmy Lyon, joined Hagar's ensemble onstage, bringing affairs to a whole new level. This show was also the second-ever performance of "Free Money" following their show shortly prior at the Concord Pavilion.
Hagar points out in the introduction to "I've Done Everything for You" that he was releasing a live album that had recently been recorded at Winterland, All Night Long, which would come out later that year. He would become a bigger star in the years to come, scoring a major solo hit in 1984 with "I Can't Drive 55" and taking over as the singer in Van Halen following David Lee Roth's departure in 1985. Although it's doubtful that a song like "Cruisin' and Boozin'" could ever be a hit today, Hagar continues to play sold-out shows with the Waboritas, and runs a successful tequila brand and restaurant chain, Cabo Wabo.

Hagar owns a nightclub and restaurant in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico called Cabo Wabo Cantina, where the video for the 1999 hit song "Mas Tequila" (from the Red Voodoo album) was filmed. Hagar plays at the club during his annual autumn "Birthday Bash". Hagar also has opened another nightclub in the franchise in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and markets a highly successful line of premium tequilas by the same Cabo Wabo name. Cabo Wabo Cantina opened in Fresno CA on August 29, 2008. However, it closed a few months later when the operator had a falling out with Hagar.
