Vegetarian cuisine is based on food that meets vegetarian standards by not including meat and animal tissue products (such as gelatin or animal derived rennet). For lacto-ovo vegetarianism (the most common type of vegetarianism in the Western world), eggs and dairy products such as milk and cheese are permitted. For lacto vegetarianism, the earliest known type of vegetarianism (recorded in India), dairy products such as milk and cheese are permitted. The strictest forms of vegetarianism are veganism and fruitarianism, which exclude all animal products, including dairy products as well as honey, and even some refined sugars if filtered and whitened with bone char.
Vegetarian foods can be classified into several different types:
Everyday Food from the test kitchens of Martha Stewart Living was a digest size cooking magazine and PBS public television program published and produced by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO). Both feature quick and easy recipes targeted at supermarket shoppers and the everyday cook.
Everyday Food was established in 2003. The television show, which is distributed nationwide on PBS by WETA-TV, includes recipes and tips from the magazine and is hosted by five members of the MSLO senior editorial staff. It stopped print versions in December 2012.
A companion series, Everyday Baking from Everyday Food, with John Barricelli as the principal chef, is also presented on PBS by WETA-TV.
Unlike most other PBS cooking shows, these programs are heavily edited, using extreme closeups, and never show any of the product brands used.

Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth.
Historically, people secured food through two methods: hunting and gathering and agriculture. Today, the majority of the food energy required by the ever increasing population of the world is supplied by the food industry.
Food safety and food security are monitored by agencies like the International Association for Food Protection, World Resources Institute, World Food Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization, and International Food Information Council. They address issues such as sustainability, biological diversity, climate change, nutritional economics, population growth, water supply, and access to food.
The right to food is a human right derived from the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), recognizing the "right to an adequate standard of living, including adequate food," as well as the "fundamental right to be free from hunger."
Sarah Carey is an Irish columnist and broadcaster. She writes for "The Sunday Independent" and The Evening Herald and presents Talking Point - a PPI nominated show - on Newstalk and occasionally for TV3. She is a former columnist for The Sunday Times and The Irish Times.
Carey has a degree in History from Trinity College, Dublin, and a post-graduate diploma in Business Studies from the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in University College, Dublin (U.C.D.). She has performed freelance PR/marketing work for a number of companies and the political party Fine Gael. She has also worked for Esat Digifone.
In 2002, she began writing the blog GUBU, "An Irish woman's social, political and domestic commentary". Then Sunday Times Irish Editor Fiona McHugh, offered Carey a column after reading the blog. The Sunday Times column ended when she started writing a weekly opinion column for The Irish Times in 2008. The blog also ended in 2008. Carey revealed that in her time at The Sunday Times, opinion columnists had been forbidden from expressing views in favour of the Lisbon Treaty.
Indian cuisine encompasses a wide variety of regional cuisines native to India. Given the range of diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines vary significantly from each other and use locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also heavily influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. There has also been Central Asian influence on North Indian cuisine from the years of Mughal rule. Indian cuisine has been and is still evolving, as a result of the nation's cultural interactions with other societies.
Historical incidents such as foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism have also played a role in introducing certain foods to the country. For instance, the potato, a staple of the Indian diet, was brought to India by the Portuguese, who also introduced chillies and breadfruit. Indian cuisine has also shaped the history of international relations; the spice trade between India and Europe is often cited by historians as the primary catalyst for Europe's Age of Discovery. Spices were bought from India and traded around Europe and Asia. It has also influenced other cuisines across the world, especially those from Southeast Asia, the British Isles, Fiji, and the Caribbean.

Going vegetarian doesn't mean you have to eat tofu all the time, but with this recipe in your meatless arsenal, you might just want to. It's an easy take on pad thai and while it's not exactly authentic, it's not takeout either! So give it a try. Sarah's Tip of the Day: To make this dish, you'll need rice noodles along with firm tofu and eggs (I'm doubling down on the meatless protein sources today, but if you want to make this vegan, just leave out the egg). You'll also need carrots, garlic, and scallions, plus lime juice, soy sauce, chili sauce, brown sugar, and vegetable oil for the sauce. Top it off with some peanuts and fresh cilantro, and you've made a dinner that's actually faster than Thai takeout. Watch the video and I'll show you a few tricks for cooking with rice noodles -- th...
