“Technical training workshop on advancing aquaponics: an efficient use of limited resources”
Organizzato insieme alla FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), la prestigiosa organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite, il workshop ha ospitato presso la struttura didattica e dimostrativa di Acquacoltura Italia Srl (www.acquacolturaitalia.com) funzionari e tecnici istituzionali provenienti da Mauritania, Marocco, Tunisia, Egitto, Sudan, Libano, Palestina, Giordania, Arabia Saudita e Emirati Arabi Uniti.
Obiettivo: promuovere la conoscenza dell'Acquaponica come metodologia innovativa in campo agricolo ed ittico per incentivarne la diffusione a vantaggio dei Paesi che hanno risorse idriche o territoriali insufficienti o ridotte.
Acquacoltura Italia ed il suo staff didattico, che comprende anche esperti tecnici appartenenti alla società partner IRCI Spa (www.irciponic.com), è orgogliosa di essere stata scelta per poter svolgere questo importante ruolo di formazione.
Ci auguriamo che sempre più impianti di Acquaponica potranno sorgere nel mondo a supporto di un nuovo modo di produrre cibo in maniera ecosostenibile con un ridottissimo impatto ambientale e contribuendo così a fornire un'ulteriore risposta alla domanda impellente di come poter coltivare anche in terreni urbani e in aree svantaggiate per l'agricoltura e l'acquacoltura tradizionali.

On the 20 October 2015, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Namibia National Farmers Union (NNFU). The MoU signed is designed to provide a framework for co-operation between FAO and NNFU with the overall goal of promoting technical cooperation, policy development, capacity building and partnership in areas related to mutual interest of the two organizations.
“NNFU and FAO recognize each other as agriculture and development-oriented organizations operating in Namibia in pursuit of national and international goals, within the limit of each organization's mandate, financial, material and human resources. The Memorandum of Understanding servers as a working document between the two organizations to strengthen their relationship and the impact of their development interventions in Namibia.” Said Babagana Ahmadu FAO Representative.
Speaking at the signing ceremony the NNFU President, Tobias Emvula, highlighted the importance of the longstanding working relationship and partnership that the two organizations felt appropriate to formalize the relationship through a MoU for future effective and efficient working relationship.
“One of the very first areas of collaboration is the implementation of the Compressive Conservation Agricultural program which was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forest. NNFU has been identified as a key stakeholder for driving this important program as a means to mitigate climate change in the NCA regions of Namibia”. He added.

One of the biggest issues related to climate change is food security. The world’s poorest - many of whom are farmers, fishers and pastoralists - are being hit hardest by higher temperatures and an increasing frequency in weather-related disasters.
At the same time, the global population is growing steadily and is expected to reach 9.6 billion by 2050. To meet such a heavy demand, agriculture and food systems will need to adapt to the adverse effects of climate change and become more resilient, productive and sustainable. This is the only way that we can ensure the wellbeing of ecosystems and rural populations and reduce emissions.

Improving food security and agricultural livelihoods in Northern Uganda is an EU-funded Government of Uganda's Agricultural Livelihoods Recovery Project (ALREP) implemented by FAO in northern Uganda targeting people that have resettled in their homes after the 20 years of war. Food and Agriculture Organization
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO; French: Organisation des Nations unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture, Italian: Organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite per l'Alimentazione e l'Agricoltura) is an agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO is also a source of knowledge and information, and helps developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices, ensuring good nutrition and food security for all. Its Latin motto, fiat panis, translates as "let there be bread". As of 8 August 2013, FAO has 194 member states, along with the European Union (a "member organization"), and the Faroe Islands and Tokelau, which are associate members.
History
The idea of an international organization for food and agriculture emerged in the late 19th and early 20th century, advanced primarily by the US agriculturalist and activist David Lubin. In May–June 1905, an international conference was held in Rome, Italy, which led to the creation of the International Institute of Agriculture.

On the 20 October 2015, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Namibia National Farmers Union (NNFU). The MoU signed is designed to provide a framework for co-operation between FAO and NNFU with the overall goal of promoting technical cooperation, policy development, capacity building and partnership in areas related to mutual interest of the two organizations.
“NNFU and FAO recognize each other as agriculture and development-oriented organizations operating in Namibia in pursuit of national and international goals, within the limit of each organization's mandate, financial, material and human resources. The Memorandum of Understanding servers as a working document between the two organizations to strengthen their relationship and the impact of their development interventions in Namibia.” Said Babagana Ahmadu FAO Representative.
Speaking at the signing ceremony the NNFU President, Tobias Emvula, highlighted the importance of the longstanding working relationship and partnership that the two organizations felt appropriate to formalize the relationship through a MoU for future effective and efficient working relationship.
“One of the very first areas of collaboration is the implementation of the Compressive Conservation Agricultural program which was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forest. NNFU has been identified as a key stakeholder for driving this important program as a means to mitigate climate change in the NCA regions of Namibia”. He added.

Gregory Garbinsky is a consultant and trainer for Interworks, a Madison based consulting firm that provides customized training and consulting services that enhance the performance of staff and organizations working in disaster management, humanitarian assistance and development-related fields. He served in the Peace Corps in Burkina Faso from 1977 to 1979.
Greg has over 34 years of international development and disaster experience, working with and for the US Government, NGO’s and the United Nations including extensive experience conducting training programs and workshops. He managed and supervised the Africa Emergency Operations Desk for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome from 2003-2007, overseeing a $US 120 million portfolio of agriculture emergency and rehabilitation projects in 22 countries in Africa. In 2007-2008, Greg led the FAO Crisis Management Center for Animal Health, developing procedures and protocols and deploying rapid response teams for response to avian flu, Rift Valley fever and other animal health diseases. Greg worked with the USAID Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) from 1991 – 2003, where he led the Disaster Assistance Support Program, an international program of the USDA Forest Service.
