OCAP knows that the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) needs to raise the rates and there are major problems with the program: the application process can be demeaning and invasive, ODSP uses a medical approach that does not recognize discrimination and other social problems and the program does not reflect the realities of many disabled people's lives, among other things. However, we encourage people to apply for ODSP because you will get more money than welfare and because you are less likely to be hassled than on welfare (but this still happens way to much).

OCAP is a direct-action anti-poverty organization based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We mount campaigns against regressive government policies as they affect poor and working people. In addition, we provide direct-action advocacy for individuals against welfare and ODSP, public housing and others who deny poor people what they are entitled to. We believe in the power of people to organize themselves.
