Best & worst dressed celebrities of the week

In this week's red carpet roundup, Kim K is sleek as, Margot Robbie masters kooky chic and Fergie channels the Village People. By Nyree McFarlane.

THE GOOD: Kim Kardashian looks sleek and elegant in this silk Nili Lotan skirt. It hugs her figure wonderfully (yes, I know I sound creepy). Plus, the split gives it a Kardashian spin. The top basically looks like a thermal from Farmers/Kmart/The Warehouse, but I’m OK with that. PS: Loving her bob? Me too. Guess what? It’s a wig. She couldn’t bring herself to cut her hair so just stuffed her long locks underneath someone else’s tresses that look a lot like her actual hair. That’s peak Kardashian behaviour. Photo: Getty
THE GOOD: Margot Robbie’s Gucci dress is pretty and yet still kooky: it seems like the perfect choice for a Suicide Squad premiere. It fits her perfectly, her undone hair is artful and I adore the vine-like straps. And that tiger? Well it’s verging dangerously close to Ed Hardy trucker cap embroidery territory, which is a dark and ugly place indeed, and yet somehow I don’t hate it. Sometimes things just inexplicably work. THE GOOD: The fact that Tracee Ellis Ross can wear a treacherous, head to toe, bright yellow Safiyaa jumpsuit and still look amazing is a true feat. Sure, there’s a touch of creasing around the upper thigh area on this jumpsuit. But hey, she’s a human with moving hip joints and so probably had to sit in a car to get to this event. I love how the straps are a slightly different colour to the rest of it. Although I think it would actually be a total slam dunk and even more resplendent if it was a gown. Thoughts? Photo: Getty
THE GOOD: Here’s how to do a plunging neckline... Jane The Virgin star Gina Rodriguez looks super, super chic in this BCBG Max Azria dress. The chest plunge is daring and the split’s thigh high, but the fact the dress skims over the rest of her body (rather than being stuck to it in a body-con fashion) means this LBD is all class. PS: Also, how #OmbreGoals is her hair? Ooh, and she’s my #BobCutIdol at the moment too. Photo: Getty
THE GOOD: Sure, Gisele’s one-mile-long solo catwalk at the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics was a touch perplexing (they could have at least given her a torch or something to carry, or let Adriana Lima join her?). But still, girl looked good while bravely walking for her country. This heavy gold dress is by Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch, and while it would look pageanty on many, Gisele manages to make it look resplendent. That is, after all, her job. Werk. THE BAD: Malin Akerman is delightful and is giving this floral jumpsuit a red hot go. But she still looks like she’s prepped for open heart surgery. (Not to put down people ready for heart surgery or anything, it’s just not the look I’d go for at a beach party in the Hamptons). Overall this is that weird mish-mash of dowdy and daring that just never works (it looks like she’s ‘hoiked’ her pants up way too high too). “I want to be covered from wrist to toe, I definitely don’t want any shoulder showing… but let’s air the patch of skin from my clavicle to my navel. THE BAD: I fear this is how female cops would have to dress in the US should Trump score the presidency. Except those pleather ali-baba pants would probs be leather short-shorts. Fergie’s in Moschino (despite the fact her crotch is branded Chanel), and doesn’t she just look so comfortable and chic? Sheer shirt, leather jogging pants, weightlifter’s belt, sports bra and a hat that belongs to the policeman in the Village People - that’s some fashion multitasking right there. THE BAD: Full disclosure, I’m a stone cold Real Housewives of Melbourne fan (I love how in the US shows they’re throwing PG15 swear words at each other by ep 10 but in the Aussie one it’s C-word fights second episode in.) I’ve also got no beef with the show’s star Gamble Breaux. She seems totally sound. I do take issue, however, with the fact that this Aron Katona dress makes it look like she’s a retired pixie with deflated wings. Is there wire in there to hold those unexplained flaps up? THE BAD: Allison Holker is a pro dancer on Dancing with the Stars. Micro-stalking her Instagram I’ve discovered she’s a mum of two, married to dancer (and Ellen’s DJ) Twitch and is usually incredibly well dressed. THE BAD: Has Elaine Hendrix recently upped a cup size? Because this week she wore two outfits that would have been passable if it weren’t for some serious gaping. You know when you put on a bit of weight and yet refuse to mentally accept it so don’t relinquish your old clothes? This then leads to everything pinching and pulling in the wrong places.
