Hugo Alconada Mon

Hugo Alconada Mon, Argentina, is investigations editor of the newspaper La Nación. He has previously held positions as Washington correspondent and U.S. bureau chief for the paper.

Alconada Mon has published articles in regional and national media in the United States, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay and Argentina, among other countries. 

He won the top Argentine award for journalism, presented by the Asociación de Entidades Periodisticas Argentinas (ADEPA), as well as awards from the Inter American Press Association, the Latin American Institute for Press and Society (IPyS) and Transparency International, among others. In 2010, he was also a finalist for the Daniel Pearl Award for international cross-border investigations. He has won scholarships and grants from the United Nations, Stanford University, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Eisenhower Fellowships, and the Salzburg Seminar.

Alconada Mon has authored Los Secretos de la Valija (The Secrets of the Briefcase), Las Coimas del Gigante Aleman (The Bribes of the German Giant), and Boudou y La Máquina de Hacer Billetes (The Vicepresident and Printing Money Machine). In 2002 he co-authored Prensa y Congreso.

He is a graduate of the Law School of the University of La Plata in Argentina and earned his Master’s degree, summa cum laude, in political communication from the University of Navarre in Spain. He has also been a visiting scholar at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
