When you've forked out a not insignificant sum for the privilege of staying in a hotel for the night, even the smallest issues become incredibly irritating.

After all, what are you paying for if the room is dirty, the kettle plug can't reach the wall, or the staff accidentally spoil Ron's 60th surprise celebration (see below)?

In the age of social media, customers are quick to vent their bemusement, with the hashtag #hotelfail providing a perfect platform to highlight some of the shortcomings in service and accommodation guests have had to put up with.

Although we do have sympathy for those who have to put up with guests like this, we have no problem showcasing the best/worst of #hotelfail...

Try wrapping this around your waist

Ok Best Western thank you for the "complementary towel", however if you look closely it's actually made of paper, and note the car key upper right....the note pad is bigger for crying out loud. Maybe Best Western should put more MONEY into amenities that guest can use rather than "paper towels" #fail #hotelfail #bestwestern

When you have to clean your own room

The final straw. Wyndham Garden Amarillo. The other straws: no pool, no hot tub, no restaurant, no a/c in the lobby or any common areas (fan blowing at front desk), trash overflowing all trash cans, trash in parking lot, filthy bathroom at banquet hall (maybe a frat party going on in there), feet stuck to the floor, whole place smelled like body odor, door to room not locked or even closed, huge wet stain on room floor, unhelpful (overwhelmed) staff worried about their food order but not so much "order" in general. #wyndhamgardenamarillo #hotelfail
