Surfers Paradise

In 1925, Jim Cavill opened the Surfers Paradise Hotel in Queensland, Australia. This hotel became the first major landmark in the area. Cavill, and his hotel, were so influential that the entire surrounding suburb was named Surfers Paradise in 1933, which continues to be its title.

While Surfers Paradise does offer a wonderful surfing beach, as the name implies, it is also a paradise for shoppers, tourists, and professionals. Between the Pacific Ocean and Surfers Paradise is a three-kilometre strip of golden sand. Cavill Avenue, named after hotelier himself, is home to one of the busiest shopping areas in all of Queensland.

This suburb is also known for being home to large high-rise buildings, vibrant nightlife spots, and the entertainment centre of the Gold Coast. The suburb has a population of approximately 18,500, but plenty of tourists make their way through this region every year.
