A procurement manager works to obtain materials for a company. The procurement manager, also called a procurement specialist or purchasing manager, is crucial to a company as he or she ensures that the company has the supplies it needs in order to continue working.

Typically, the procurement manager is able to effectively use computers and communicate with others, both written and verbally.

The procurement manager must be well-versed in higher-level math and have a very analytical mind as they are required to ensure that a company has all the tools and supplies it needs to work efficiently.

In addition to obtaining the supplies, the manager must find a suitable vendor to buy from and make a contract with. Prior to the procurement manager writing up a contract for a vendor, they must share proposals with company executives for approval.

Some companies will hire applicants with as little as a high school degree however, higher education is needed to grow in the career.

A respected procurement manager has an affinity for numbers and computer applications as well as a quick thinking mind. Other skills that they must have are:
