Last week, we announced that TechStars is happening in Boston this year in addition Boulder. When you apply to TechStars, there is a now a question to answer regarding location. The choices are:
- Boulder only.
- Boston only.
- Boulder first, Boston second.
- Boston first, Boulder second.
Because we’re accepting about ten companies in each city this year, you’ll have the best chance of being accepted if you select the third or fourth option.
If you applied to TechStars prior to February 17th, your application has automatically been set to “Boulder first, Boston second.” Therefore, those applicants are already under consideration for both cities. If you’d like to change your preference, simply contact us.
For those who have not yet applied but plan to do so, please remember that the application deadline is March 21st. If you apply by March 1st, then you might get an invitation to TechStars For A Day on March 3rd in Boulder or March 9th in Boston.
A few people have been asking what the difference will be between the two operations. TechStars is really about mentorship. That’s why we say that it’s a “mentorship-driven” program. We’ve lined up some pretty amazing mentors who are based in Boston, Boulder and elsewhere, so there’s no doubt that you’ll get the same high quality mentorship experience in both cities. Likewise, our investor day in Boston is sure to be just as well attended as those we’ve done in the past in Boulder. We’ll be expecting lots of investors to attend in each city, as well as at our annual event in Silicon Valley. While the primary mentors for each city will obviously be those who are local, lots of mentors based in one city are already excited about the addition and are actively planning to spend time in the other city. And many of the mentors from Silicon Valley, New York, and elsewhere are sure to hang out in both cities as well. In short, you can expect great mentorship, connections, and access to potential investors regardless of location.
