Toyota has recalled its Toyota 86 sports cars built between 2012 and 2015.

Toyota has announced that it will recall almost 15,000 86 sports cars for a faulty power steering mechanism.

Models built between April 2012 and March 2015 - which nearly encompasses its entire life span - are at risk of losing power steering due to a faulty wire harness.

The fix requires the fitting of a new power steering electronic control unit and wire harness.

Toyota expects parts to arrive at the end of September in which time the brand will notify affected customers by mail and advise them to book a time to take it to their local dealer.

The fix will be carried out at no cost and will take about one hour.

There has so far been 62 incidents reported in Australia but not accidents or injuries have occurred due to this issue.

Toyota recalled 328,000 cars in July forĀ a potential fire risk due to a leaking fuel tank and the brand has recalled hundreds of thousands of cars locally for potential fatal Takata airbags.
