Hello welcome to my new video!
In this video multiplatinum record producer/mixer/engineer Skip Saylor will be talking about his career in the music business. He will tell stories from working with Frank Sinatra, Snoop Dogg and making Use your illusion by Guns and Roses.
Skip will take you through his music journey, starting from moving to California and working at Ocean Way studios, setting up microphones for Sinatra and recording Gangsta Rap. You will hear behind the science stories about Guns and Roses and Snoop Dog, will learn a lot about recording gear and about how the music industry use to work and what changes it is going through.
Skip is one of a few people in the music industry who went through all the changes in the music business.

About Skip Saylor:
Skip Saylor has been a recording engineer, mixer and producer for over 30 years who has owned his own high-end LA based studios in the LA area since 1980.
During that time, and in the years previous to 1980 when he was an independent engineer working in many of LA's then legendary studios, Saylor has been involved in every aspect of the business of making records. His client list linked to at left speaks for itself and the name "Skip Saylor" is synonymous with quality and professionalism and his studios well-known as top level facilities where many gold and platinum artists and successful producers come to work on their musical projects.
Grammy winning producer David Kershenbaum who has been working on various projects in the studio and with Skip as mixer in 2010 had this to say recently:

Saylor's current and what he considers his best studio, was built on ranch style property to serve the needs of his personal producing projects and also that of the many producer/mixer/engineers he works with who seek to have a facility that can accommodate album projects from start to finish.
In addition to a great tracking and mix room, the studio also has multiple places to house the artists/bands on property in a secluded, private and creative environment.
Skip retained equipment from his former Hollywood area facility, including his modified 100 input SSL recording console, Pro Tools HD and a large array of prime outboard gear and microphones and too numerous to mention here

Quincy Delight Jones, Jr. (born March 14, 1933) is an American record producer, conductor, arranger, composer, musician, television producer, film producer, instrumentalist, magazine founder, entertainment company executive, and humanitarian.[2] His career spans six decades in the entertainment industry and a record 79 Grammy Award nominations,[3] 28 Grammys,[3] including a Grammy Legend Award in 1991.
Jones came to prominence in the 1950s as a jazz arranger and conductor, before moving on to work prolifically in pop music and film scores.
In 1968, Jones and his songwriting partner Bob Russell became the first African Americans to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, their "The Eyes of Love" for the Universal Pictures film Banning. That same year, Jones was the first African American to be nominated twice within the same year for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, as he was also nominated for his work on the film In Cold Blood (1967). In 1971, Jones was the first African American to be named as the musical director and conductor of the Academy Awards ceremony. In 1995 he was the first African American to receive the Academy's Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. He is tied with sound designer Willie D. Burton as the African American who has been nominated for the most Oscars; each has received seven nominations.
Jones was the producer, with Michael Jackson, of Jackson's albums Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), and Bad (1987), as well as being the producer and conductor of the 1985 charity song "We Are the World".
In 2013 Jones was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as the winner, alongside Lou Adler, of the Ahmet Ertegun Award.[4] Among his awards, Jones was named by Time Magazine as one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century. - Wikipedia

Record producer
A record producer (or music producer) has a very broad role in overseeing and managing the recording (i.e. "production") of a band or performer's music. A producer has many roles that may include, but are not limited to, gathering ideas for the project, selecting songs and/or session musicians, proposing changes to the song arrangements, coaching the artist and musicians in the studio, controlling the recording sessions, and supervising the entire process through audio mixing (recorded music) and, in some cases, to the audio mastering stage. Producers also often take on a wider entrepreneurial role, with responsibility for the budget, schedules, contracts, and negotiations.
In the 2010s, the recording industry has two kinds of producers with different roles: executive producer and music producer. Executive producers oversee project finances while music producers oversee the creation of music.
A music producer can, in some cases, be compared to a film director, with noted practitioner Phil Ek describing his role as "the person who creatively guides or directs the process of making a record, like a director would a movie. The audio engineering [person] would be more the cameraman of the movie." Indeed, in Bollywood music, the designation actually is music director. The music producer's job is to create, shape, and mold a piece of music. The scope of responsibility may be one or two songs or an artist's entire album – in which case the producer will typically develop an overall vision for the album and how the various songs may interrelate.

Plot: Follows the story of Gilbert Hooke. Gilbert was at one time on his way to the big time! But a taste for liquor and an unlucky streak got in the way and he's resigned now to playing local dives. His wife, Marina, is always on him to get a real job and help with the bills, but Gilbert will hear nothing of it. He still dreams of making the big time. After a particularly intense harassing from Marina one morning, Gilbert decides to hit the fishing hole (his favorite past time other than drinking) and fish his worries away. On the way he stops and talks to Ole Wormy Angler who advises him not to go to his particular destination: Mocatawbi Pond, because of a curse that was put upon it. But Gilbert doesn't listen and amidst his fishing expedition he catches a particularly interesting creature. It looks like a fish, smells like a fish, but has one tiny difference. It talks! Skip Saylor has been a recording engineer, mixer and producer for over 30 years who has owned his own high-end LA based studios in the LA area since 1980.
During that time, and in the years previous to 1980 when he was an independent engineer working in many of LA's then legendary studios, Saylor has been involved in every aspect of the business of making records. His client list linked to at left speaks for itself and the name "Skip Saylor" is synonymous with quality and professionalism and his studios well-known as top level facilities where many gold and platinum artists and successful producers come to work on their musical projects.
Grammy winning producer David Kershenbaum who has been working on various projects in the studio and with Skip as mixer in 2010 had this to say recently:

Jones came to prominence in the 1950s as a jazz arranger and conductor, before moving on to work prolifically in pop music and film scores.
In 1968, Jones and his songwriting partner Bob Russell became the first African Americans to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, their "The Eyes of Love" for the Universal Pictures film Banning. That same year, Jones was the first African American to be nominated twice within the same year for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, as he was also nominated for his work on the film In Cold Blood (1967). In 1971, Jones was the first African American to be named as the musical director and conductor of the Academy Awards ceremony. In 1995 he was the first African American to receive the Academy's Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. He is tied with sound designer Willie D. Burton as the African American who has been nominated for the most Oscars; each has received seven nominations.
Jones was the producer, with Michael Jackson, of Jackson's albums Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), and Bad (1987), as well as being the producer and conductor of the 1985 charity song "We Are the World".

Quincy Delight Jones, Jr. (born March 14, 1933) is an American record producer, conductor, arranger, composer, musician, television producer, film producer, instrumentalist, magazine founder, entertainment company executive, and humanitarian.[2] His career spans six decades in the entertainment industry and a record 79 Grammy Award nominations,[3] 28 Grammys,[3] including a Grammy Legend Award in 1991.
Jones came to prominence in the 1950s as a jazz arranger and conductor, before moving on to work prolifically in pop music and film scores.
In 1968, Jones and his songwriting partner Bob Russell became the first African Americans to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, their "The Eyes of Love" for the Universal Pictures film Banning. That same year, Jones was the first African American to be nominated twice within the same year for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, as he was also nominated for his work on the film In Cold Blood (1967). In 1971, Jones was the first African American to be named as the musical director and conductor of the Academy Awards ceremony. In 1995 he was the first African American to receive the Academy's Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. He is tied with sound designer Willie D. Burton as the African American who has been nominated for the most Oscars; each has received seven nominations.
Jones was the producer, with Michael Jackson, of Jackson's albums Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), and Bad (1987), as well as being the producer and conductor of the 1985 charity song "We Are the World".
In 2013 Jones was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as the winner, alongside Lou Adler, of the Ahmet Ertegun Award.[4] Among his awards, Jones was named by Time Magazine as one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century. - Wikipedia

Stevie Wonder's groundbreaking '70s albums leaned heavily on the progressive and innovative synthesizer sounds of the TONTO synthesizer. Robert Margouleff was an integral part of the design and construction of the TONTO, and ended up playing a huge collaborative role on the development of the sound of those classic albums. He also had a hand in landmark releases by artists ranging from Jeff Beck, Gil Scott-Heron, and Bobby Womack to Depeche Mode, Devo, and GWAR, and, co-produced the film Ciao! Manhattan, which was based on his experiences in Andy Warhol's Factory.
