Anarchists in Greece have been providing squatted accommodation – abandoned schools, hotels etc – for refugees – since the current conflicts in Syria began. And as soon as the Greek authorities organised evictions of these premises, more buildings have been squatted.
05.08.16: Today fugitive anarchist comrades Kostas Sakkas and Marios Seisides were arrested in Sparta. The comrades were subjected to torture at the hands of the police after refusing to give their finger prints and have their pictures taken. According to Athens Indymedia the comrades require hospitalization. Two solidarity letters (one of which is also a call for a solidarity rally) are translated below…

The coup, which has been an inevitable reality of the state presence in this geography since the military coup of 1980, arose after 36 years, on the night of July 15. Many state buildings were blocked for a few hours during the military mobilisation based in Istanbul and Ankara. The coup started with flypast of fighter jets in Ankara and blocking of bridges in Istanbul by soldiers, and continued with taking hostage of chief of general staff and tank noise and gun shots in the streets. Many state buildings were shot by F16s and helicopters including the parliament building and the headquarters of National Intelligence Organisation; There were clash of arms in many places between soldiers and police.
On July 8th 2016, the Koridallos prison court – presided over by special judge Asimina Yfanti – convicted all members of the anarchist revolutionary organisation Conspiracy of Cells of Fire, who were accused of placing an explosive device at Koridallos tax office; sending a parcel bomb to the police station in Itea (in retaliation for the murder of inmate Ilir Kareli by prison guards); sending a letter bomb to the home of Dimitris Mokkas (special appellate judge against terrorism); planning an armed escape from Koridallos prison (dubbed “Gorgopotamos project”); and possession of firearms, explosives and anti-tank RPGs with the purpose of “disrupting the country’s social, economic and political life.” Furthermore, in relation to these charges, they were convicted of “direction of a terrorist organisation” and incitement (“moral instigation”) to four attempted homicides.
On June 13, 2016 in Montreal, a judge sentenced me to 3 years of probation and 125 hours of community service for a memorable event that took place during the 2015 May Day in Montreal. I also have $600 of judicial fees to pay in 45 days. For this, I need your help. But in addition, I’ll offer you the delicious testimony of the cop who got beat while arresting me!

EPM: Why kill?
It has now been over a week since our doors were first cut off, cops and security intruded into our housing project, installing themselves in our stairways and other previously collective spaces. From then, the speedy and aggressive eviction and destruction of the ground level of our home began. Our social space, the Kadterschmiede, along with our workshop, laundry, attic and garden were stripped of all recognition in clouds of dust and mortar, while rubbish skips were filled with our belongings and collective histories.
False friends. False allies. False solidarity. Pregnant with expectations of failure before we even stumble; outraged by our refusal to accept their efforts to mould and shape from a privileged distance; demanding generosity shrouded in layers of Eurocentric racism and orientalism (when their minds are more colonised than ours). Quick to condemn, to denounce, to critique a revolution they barely understand; too slow to self educate, to learn and unlearn; to stand back silently; to listen where needed, instead they condemn the liberation and self preservation tactics of a colonised, brutalised people before they even know the colours of our name – do you even know who we are? we are named Halabje and Roboski and Shengal and Nuseybin and Kobane and Qamishlou, and Dersim and Zilan and Serdesht!
