The Raven (1963) is a B movie horror-comedy produced and directed by Roger Corman. The film stars Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, and Boris Karloff as a trio of rival sorcerers. It is the fifth film in the series of eight Edgar Allan Poe adaptations produced by Corman through American International Pictures. (Corman's movie titled The Haunted Palace, though purportedly a Poe adaptation, is actually based on H.P. Lovecraft's The Case of Charles Dexter Ward). The film was written by Richard Matheson based on references to Poe's poem "The Raven". The supporting cast includes a young Jack Nicholson.
Three decades earlier, Karloff had appeared in another film with the same title, Lew Landers' 1935 horror film The Raven with Bela Lugosi. Aside from the title, the two films bear no resemblance to one another.
A novelization of the film was written by Eunice Sudak adapted from Richard Matheson's screenplay and published by Lancer Books in paperback.
The sorcerer Dr. Erasmus Craven (Vincent Price) has been mourning the death of his wife Lenore (Hazel Court) for over two years, much to the chagrin of his daughter Estelle (Olive Sturgess). One night he is visited by a raven, who happens to be a transformed wizard, Dr. Bedlo (Peter Lorre). Together they brew a potion that restores Bedlo to his old self. Bedlo explains he had been transformed by the evil Dr. Scarabus (Boris Karloff) in an unfair duel, and both decide to see Scarabus, Bedlo to exact revenge and Craven to look for his wife's ghost, which Bedlo reportedly saw at Scarabus' castle. After fighting off the attack of Craven's coachman, who apparently acted under the influence of Scarabus, they set out to the castle, joined by Craven's daughter Estelle and Bedlo's son Rexford (Jack Nicholson).

Plot: A young scholar mourns the loss of his beloved Lenore. Upon her open casket he vows to join her in death, but hesitates at the last moment. While slowly succumbing to complete despair, an angel of death appears to the young scholar, prompting a very philosophical and nefarious discussion on the tragic demise of the beautiful. Though the spirit of Lenore still remains, the despair of the young scholar prevents him from knowing of her presence. Torn by the violent emotions of love and despair, the young scholar must move beyond his hopelessness if he is to save the soul of Lenore from an ever present and impending doom. But is it the salvation of her soul that's truly at stake or his own?

Plot: 'Desert Haiku' is a short film-poem designed as an intriguing ode to the soulful American Southwest. It explores the memory of the desert through the fusion of modern technology and ancient landscapes. Re-imagining mythologies based on personal experience, the film plays with the idea of morphic resonance, where the sublime meets the real, and worlds may collide and fuse in history-defying moments. Deserts were once oceans, and the narrative lead is that of finding water, as a metaphor for finding oneself. It features outstanding talent from an Yaqui opera singer to a young Hopi/Navajo boy, professional dancers and a renowned Japanese performer.

Plot: I wanted to bring to life and visually tell the story of Edgar Allan Poe's poem, The Raven. Others have made films with the same name, but they haven't covered the poem, they have looked at his other work and just taken the title. I wanted to put across my own vision on the poem and without an extensive amount of research into other peoples work for inspiration, I have created something fresh, hopefully new and something that the audience has never seen before. I also wanted to leave the audience feeling as though they have seen something great, but at the same time, not spoon feeding them all of the answers to the questions that the film might ask them.

An infamous mass-murder happened there fifty years ago to the night, but that's part of the fun for the posh hotties who show up for some boozy partying. The reverie is cut short when a Raven-masked killer crashes the party, intent on repeating the bloody history of the "Ravenwood Massacre" that happened decades ago. As the unknown killer picks the guests off one by one, old grudges resurface among friends, and new suspicions emerge.

I see them all arise(all arise)
My feathered friend, observer of grief
Dark visions of the past
A horror that will ever, ever last
It is the truth that I can't believe
You have seen so much hate
Growing till it was too late
A manmade hell here on earth
Just when death closes in
Time to confess all their sins
Forced to return the gift - the gift of birth
With silent cries he drifts into the dark
With sorrow in his hear
The time the last light dies
All grace will be denied
The end of our future
When the dark Raven flies
Taking the eyes from the dead
Blinding a blinded head
They couldn't see while they were alive
Watch the reaper's dance
To the score in your bloody hands
A deadly symphony written for gun and knife
