Carl Barât
Carl Ashley Raphael Barât (born 6 June 1978) is an English musician, best known for being the co-frontman with Peter Doherty of the garage rock band The Libertines. He was the frontman and lead guitarist of Dirty Pretty Things, and in 2010 debuted a solo album. In 2014 he announced the creation of his new band, The Jackals.
Early life
Carl Barât was born in Basingstoke, England on 6 June 1978, and spent most of his childhood in Whitchurch, Hampshire. In a September 2004 interview with Blender Magazine, Barât mentioned having a French, Russian and Polish ethnic background.
As a youth, Barât divided his time between his divorced parents. His father, a former artist, worked in an armaments factory, and his mother, Chrissie, was part of the commune-dwelling counterculture and a member of peace groups such as the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Barât spent part of his childhood living with his mother on a commune in Somerset. He has one sister, actress-turned-singer Lucie Barât, who played Helen's handmaiden in the 2004 film Troy, founded publishing house and artistic organization Little Episodes, and is currently the lead singer of The Au Revoirs. He also has three half-siblings, one step brother and one step sister.

On the bill were some of Gizzi’s favourite chefs, street food traders, DJs, bands and SUNSHINE. We had Korean barbecue from Neil Rankin, Yakitori from Disco Bistro, Catalan from Ben Tish, lobster from James Lowe, Southern from Lucky Chip and Stevie Parle’s Kebab Shop. Plus live music from punk skifflers Banjoey Ramone and DJ sets from Carl Barat and Lisa Moorish.
If you missed it don’t beat yourself up too much, she’s planning another one on Saturday 31 August with more chefs, more rock ‘n’ roll and more #vibes. Stick it in the diary now.

Cool Britannia BIO
WFL (Wrote for Luck) è il titolo della settima traccia di "Bummed", album del 1988 della band inglese Happy Mondays.
E' proprio da questo brano, pietra miliare del filone musicale della Manchester underground di fine anni '80, che deriva il nome in consolle dei due DJs, Bobby Cirasino e Francesco Gallea, che di quella corrente hanno fatto il fulcro delle loro selezioni musicali.
Entrambi trapiantati da anni a Bologna, nel 2009, partendo dallo storico Covo Club, hanno dato vita ad un progetto di educazione musicale, se così può essere definito, facendo di Cool Britannia (questo il nome delle loro serate), un appuntamento imperdibile con il sound d'oltremanica.
Eclettici e sperimentali da un lato, nostalgici e classici dall'altro, i loro dj-set, spaziano dal brit-pop all'acid house, passando per la new wave e l'elettronica e sorprendendo con imprevedibili remix. Negli ultimi anni hanno affiancato notevoli icone della storia della musica Made in UK: artisti del calibro di Dave Rowntree (batterista dei Blur), Martin Duffy (tastierista dei Primal Scream), Peter Hook (bassista dei New Order e prima ancora dei Joy Division), Nick Power (tastierista dei The Corals), Carl Barat (The Libertines) . Lo stesso Alan McGee, fondatore della Creation Records, nonché colui al quale va il merito di aver scoperto i fratelli Gallagher, accetta spesso e volentieri l'invito ad animare con loro la dancefloor. Tra un anthem ed una new release, l'estate li ha visti protagonisti degli aftershow di alcuni dei concerti memorabili del 2013, come quello dei Beady Eye di Liam Gallagher sul palco del Pistoia Blues e di Johnny Marr, fondatore con Morrissey degli Smiths, nella cornice estiva del Vicolo Bolognetti.
A loro piace divertire, divertendosi, far ballare, ballando.
La loro musica è diletto e scoperta per i giovani spensierati, ma anche ricerca e ricordo per i più malinconici.

Entrambi trapiantati da anni a Bologna, nel 2009, partendo dallo storico Covo Club, hanno dato vita ad un progetto di educazione musicale, se così può essere definito, facendo di Cool Britannia (questo il nome delle loro serate), un appuntamento imperdibile con il sound d'oltremanica.
Eclettici e sperimentali da un lato, nostalgici e classici dall'altro, i loro dj-set, spaziano dal brit-pop all'acid house, passando per la new wave e l'elettronica e sorprendendo con imprevedibili remix. Negli ultimi anni hanno affiancato notevoli icone della storia della musica Made in UK: artisti del calibro di Dave Rowntree (batterista dei Blur), Martin Duffy (tastierista dei Primal Scream), Peter Hook (bassista dei New Order e prima ancora dei Joy Division), Nick Power (tastierista dei The Corals), Carl Barat (The Libertines) . Lo stesso Alan McGee, fondatore della Creation Records, nonché colui al quale va il merito di aver scoperto i fratelli Gallagher, accetta spesso e volentieri l'invito ad animare con loro la dancefloor. Tra un anthem ed una new release, l'estate li ha visti protagonisti degli aftershow di alcuni dei concerti memorabili del 2013, come quello dei Beady Eye di Liam Gallagher sul palco del Pistoia Blues e di Johnny Marr, fondatore con Morrissey degli Smiths, nella cornice estiva del Vicolo Bolognetti.
A loro piace divertire, divertendosi, far ballare, ballando.

Carl Barat Interview
In 2010, at the height of my career as a music journalist, I was sent a copy of Carl Barat's eponymous solo album. Unlike the shambolic shite that the Libertines used to knock out, it was actually quite a decent effort, so I decided to throw my weight behind him and do an interview article. Only problem Carl Barat was extremely jetlagged and in need of sleep. His T-shirt got ripped after I grabbed him by it and started slapping his face in order to wake him up. Did I succeed? It's 1989 and a new grassroots music craze is sweeping across Britain. The story of British indie over three musically diverse episodes. Much more than a genre of music, it is a spirit, an attitude and an ethos.
It's 1989 and a new grassroots music craze is sweeping across Britain. Despite the authorities railing against 'the zombification of a nation', acid house and its bed partner ecstasy are influencing a wave of indie bands. On the eve of a new decade while original independent labels struggle in the wake of acid, young indie labels Heavenly and Creation are thriving, signing both Manic Street Preachers and Primal Scream respectively.
By the mid-90s, in a bid to break the stranglehold of American grunge bands, the music press construct Britpop and push two bands, Oasis and Blur, to the top of the pile. The key thing that separates Britpop bands from the previous generation is the mindset. These bands, who grew up in the Thatcher era, want to sell (and make) a million. Bands with an old indie ethos, such as Suede, are still breaking through, but will switch from independent labels to majors, thus guaranteeing international recognition.
Indie truly goes mainstream when Noel Gallagher shakes hands with Tony Blair and Oasis fill Knebworth. The spirit of the DIY boom had all but gone and indie becomes a genre rather than an alternative approach to making and releasing music. The late 90s are dark days for indie, but as Rough Trade rises from the ashes with two fresh signings - the Strokes and the Libertines - it feels like a new dawn.
More new completely independent labels emerge. They've learnt from the mistakes of old and are excellent at artist development - labels such Domino, who manage the Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand. We hear why these two bands - who had the majors tripping over themselves to sign them - choose Domino instead.
These bands also heralded a new way in which music was being discovered. It's the fans at a grassroots level, sharing their favourite band via clips on social media, who would be the new A&R; - alerting the record labels to new talent.
We finally come full circle to discover just what constitutes indie music now, if there still a need for independent labels and, finally, whether the spirit of rebellion that inspired the DIY movement of the 1970s still exists today.
The series is presented by BBC Radio 6 Music's Mark Radcliffe and this episode features exclusive interviews with performers including Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays, the Libertines' Carl Barat, Stuart Murdoch from Belle & Sebastian and Bob Stanley of Saint Etienne. It also includes interviews with a number of influential music industry figures such as James Endeacott, formerly of Rough Trade Records and founder of Sony BMG subsidiary record label 1965 Records, Heavenly Recordings' Jeff Barrett, Creation Records' Alan McGee and indie music author Richard King.

En octubre de 2006, 4 chicos, 1 italiano y 3 españoles fundan una banda especial: una tribute band de la musica de Pete Doherty y Carl Barat.
La banda, en Valencia se conocia como Albion Covers: versionaba principalmente los temas de The Libertines, pero tambien los temas de Babyshambles y Dirty Pretty Things, las bandas de Pete y Carl cuando se separaron en 2005. De hecho Albion Covers escogieron su nombre de la cancion "Albion" de Pete Doherty. Pete nunca llegò a desarrollar este tema con The Libertines, sin embargo fue el leitmotiv del primer disco de Babyshambles "Down in Albion".
La cosa que mas caracterizaba a este grupo es que nacio totalmente como una e-band, ya que los 4 cuatro componentes vivian en distintas ciudades. La musica de los libertines era la escusa para verse y tocar la musica de la ultima estrella maldida del rock despues de Cobain: Mr. Doherty.
En este blog de la Gramola de Keith hoy os quiero hablar de esta banda y de sus versiones de los libertines. Os dejo un enlace youtube en el que podeis escuchar 18 versiones.
Con el tiempo la banda dejò de ser solo una tribute band de The Libertines y empezò a versionar las mejores bandas del rock britanico y americano de la ultima decada (Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Kings of Leon, The Strokes....)
La banda estaba formada por Rafa Martin, Javi Juesas, Ruben Coll y Yo (Lorenzo Fraioli). En 2007 Jordi Marin substituyò a Javi. En 2008 Albion Covers la band se separò. Rafa, Jordi y yo formamos a The Albionauts. En 2009 Davide Zaottini entrò en la banda.
En 2011, Albion Covers II regresan (como proyecto paralelo a the Albionauts) en una formacion distinta. Davide, Yo, Eliano Zomparelli y Roberto Segala formamos otra vez la banda para seguir tocando versiones de rock britanico en Italia.

TRIBUTO A LOS LIBERTINES
En octubre de 2006, 4 chicos, 1 italiano y 3 españoles fundan una banda especial: una tribute band de la musica de Pete Doherty y Carl Barat.
La banda, en Valencia se conocia como Albion Covers: versionaba principalmente los temas de The Libertines, pero tambien los temas de Babyshambles y Dirty Pretty Things, las bandas de Pete y Carl cuando se separaron en 2005. De hecho Albion Covers escogieron su nombre de la cancion "Albion" de Pete Doherty. Pete nunca llegò a desarrollar este tema con The Libertines, sin embargo fue el leitmotiv del primer disco de Babyshambles "Down in Albion".
La cosa que mas caracterizaba a este grupo es que nacio totalmente como una e-band, ya que los 4 cuatro componentes vivian en distintas ciudades. La musica de los libertines era la escusa para verse y tocar la musica de la ultima estrella maldida del rock despues de Cobain: Mr. Doherty.
En este blog de la Gramola de Keith hoy os quiero hablar de esta banda y de sus versiones de los libertines. Os dejo un enlace youtube en el que podeis escuchar 18 versiones.
Con el tiempo la banda dejò de ser solo una tribute band de The Libertines y empezò a versionar las mejores bandas del rock britanico y americano de la ultima decada (Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Kings of Leon, The Strokes....)
La banda estaba formada por Rafa Martin, Javi Juesas, Ruben Coll y Yo (Lorenzo Fraioli). En 2007 Jordi Marin substituyò a Javi. En 2008 Albion Covers la band se separò. Rafa, Jordi y yo formamos a The Albionauts. En 2009 Davide Zaottini entrò en la banda.
En 2011, Albion Covers II regresan (como proyecto paralelo a the Albionauts) en una formacion distinta. Davide, Yo, Eliano Zomparelli y Roberto Segala formamos otra vez la banda para seguir tocando versiones de rock britanico en Italia.
