A ground station, earth station, or earth terminal is a terrestrial radio station designed for extraplanetary telecommunication with spacecraft (constituting part of the ground segment of the spacecraft system), or reception of radio waves from astronomical radio sources. Ground stations may be located either on the surface of the Earth, or in its atmosphere. Earth stations communicate with spacecraft by transmitting and receiving radio waves in the super high frequency or extremely high frequency bands (e.g., microwaves). When a ground station successfully transmits radio waves to a spacecraft (or vice versa), it establishes a telecommunications link. A principal telecommunications device of the ground station is the parabolic antenna.
Ground stations may have either a fixed or itinerant position. Article 1 § III of the ITU Radio Regulations describes various types of stationary and mobile ground stations, and their interrelationships.
Specialized satellite earth stations are used to telecommunicate with satellites—chiefly communications satellites. Other ground stations communicate with manned space stations or unmanned space probes. A ground station that primarily receives telemetry data, or that follows a satellite not in geostationary orbit, is called a tracking station.
In 1998, assembly began in space on a satellite that would be second in size and radiance only to the Moon…NASA’s International Space Station. Completed in the 21st Century, the International Space Station’s role in the development of your future as well as that of the United States space program is enormous. Many things learned in space are already benefiting life right here on Earth. Ultimately this satellite will be the springboard enabling nations around the world to prepare to take the next giant leap past our Moon and into the Solar System. Today NASA and the International Space Station invite you to join us for the first opportunity in history to participate in the academic challenges and commercial opportunities available as NASA travels beyond Earth to understand and explore the...
British English version. Together with a camera crew, ViaLite recently visited the world famous earth station at Goonhilly, UK. The dishes that received the first transatlantic satellite TV images and relayed live pictures of the Apollo moon landing and Live Aid are now decommissioned. However, the site has a new life serving some of the world’s largest teleport operators. ViaLite saw how they were getting on with their RF over fibre and put together a short video...

Information Video produced for the OTC Satelite Earth Station in Carnarvon Western Australia. First Released 28th Of August 1985. Produced By Shennan Productions. The 'sugar scoop' antenna became operational on 29 October 1966 when Intelsat-2A, the first of the three satellites launched, gave OTC and the ABC a brief chance to test satellite TV communications as the satellite drifted to ignominious failure over the Indian Ocean. On 24 November 1966, test patterns for the first-ever live telecasts from Australia to England were successful. The next day, a live BBC television broadcast from a studio in London featured interviews linking UK families with their British migrant relatives standing in Robinson Street, Carnarvon. This video highlights some of the projects OTC Carnarvon was invo...

This educational video depicts an inside tour of the International Space Station and hosted by NASA Astronaut Sunita (Suni) Williams orbiting the earth in zero gravity. During the overview, Sunita explains the station's structure which is divided into two pressurized modules sections, the Russian Orbital Segment (ROS) and the United States Orbital Segment (USOS), which is shared by many nations but funded by NASA until 2024. Roscosmos (РоÑ?коÑ?моÑ?), the governmental body responsible for the space science program in Russia and general aerospace research, has endorsed the continued operation of ISS through 2024, but has proposed using elements of the Russian Orbital Segment to construct a new Russian space station called OPSEK. The ESA (European Space Agency) also uses the ISS for research an...
Space Engineers Survival Series (SESS) Episode Three - Earth Station The ships and structures I will be using are already exisitng creations, but in survival... whatever happens, happens. These ships had respectable starting payloads of oxygen, hydrogen, uranium and ammunition. Nothing else. ALL settings are "realistic". ALL "hazards" are enabled with the exception of meteor showers. Meteor showers will be enabled from time to time in relation to the environment since typically a planet with an atmosphere would eliminate that threat. With the exception of a few minor Mods, this is a "vanilla" survival series. As things progress I may bring in other Mods, but only those that I think would/should be intergrated into the base game. Any cinematic scenes are typically recorded in "Cre...
