The botanical term for wild rose is "species rose", which means just what it says — a species that occurs naturally, with no help from man — a true "wildflower." There are over 100 of these worldwide, some native to North America, many from the Orient and Europe. These true wild roses are all single with exactly five petals — never more, and almost all of them are pink, with a few whites and reds, and even fewer that range toward yellow. Middle-aged women appear as excited and cheerful as young girls. Everyone waits for the day when tens of millions of roses will bloom.

When night falls, roses shine through the darkness. A 5.15 kilometer-long rose tunnel is the highlight of the path.

Flower shops are busy in May when roses are in season.

Due to its rarity and beauty, the Gold of Kinabalu Orchid is one of the most expensive flowers ever sold. The Gold of Kinabalu Orchid is found only in the Kinabalu National Park in Malaysia.
It is told that one stick of this flower is sold at $5000 in black market.
3. Shenzhen Nongke Orchid
This beautiful flower was developed in the lab by agricultural research corporation Shenzhen Nongke Group. The orchid took the researchers eight years to grow. In 2005, it was sold at auction for a shocking 1.68 million Yuan, making it one of the most expensive flowers ever bought.
One cannot imagine that this beautiful flower can cost as much as $202000!

Making its debut in 2006 at the Chelsea Flower Show, and took the floral world by storm not only for its elegance and blushing beauty, but because it was one of the most expensive flowers ever developed. It is known as the “£3 million rose” , which is equivalent to approximately $15.8 million.

This spectacular five-part documentary series, presented by Tony Robinson, investigates the history of natural disasters, from the planet's beginnings to the present, putting a new perspective on our existence and suggesting that we are the product of catastrophe.
99% of all the creatures that have ever lived, no longer exist. They were wiped-out in a series of global catastrophes. Each disaster changed the course of evolution on earth. Without them mankind, nor any of the life we see around us, would be here today. For out of catastrophe comes rebirth. Evolution is a savage, imperfect and violent process. It's survive or perish. The earth's history of catastrophes has both moulded the planet and determined evolution. For each disaster led to another leap forward on the evolutionary trail form single celled bacteria to humankind itself.
Episode 4 - Asteroid Impact
Dinosaurs rose up as rulers of Earth around 230 million years ago, eventually dominating all other species and relegating mammals to the shadows. But 65 million years ago their planet was rocked by yet another massive event when, seemingly out of nowhere, the mighty dinosaurs were wiped off the face of Earth. But without this devastating catastrophe, humans would not be here today.
This film explores the trail of clues that lead to what extinguished the dinosaurs and ultimately led to the evolution of humans. Cutting-edge scientists, palaeontologists and geologists investigate what could be responsible, and chart the story behind the widely held theory that Earth was hit once again by a deadly asteroid.

Piranhas have lived in South America for millions of years
Today, piranhas inhabit the freshwaters of South America from the Orinoco River Basin in Venezuela up to the Paraná River in Argentina. Though estimates vary, around 30 species inhabit the lakes and rivers of South America today. Fossil evidence puts piranha ancestors in the continent’s rivers 25 million years ago, but modern piranha genera may have only been around for 1.8 million years.
A 2007 study suggests that modern species diverged from a common ancestor around 9 million years ago. Also, the Atlantic Ocean rose around 5 million years ago, expanding into the flood plains of the Amazon and other South American rivers. The high salt environment would have been inhospitable to freshwater fish, like piranhas, but some likely escaped upriver to higher altitudes. Genetic analysis suggests that piranhas living above 100 meters in the Amazon have only been around for 3 million years.
