West Virginia i/ˌwɛst vərˈdʒɪnjə/ is a state located in the Appalachian region of the Southern United States. It is bordered by Virginia to the southeast, Kentucky to the southwest, Ohio to the northwest, Pennsylvania to the north (and, slightly, east), and Maryland to the northeast. West Virginia is the 41st largest by area and the 38th most populous of the 50 United States. The capital and largest city is Charleston.
West Virginia became a state following the Wheeling Conventions of 1861, in which delegates from some Unionist counties of northwestern Virginia decided to break away from Virginia during the American Civil War, although they included many secessionist counties in the new state. West Virginia was admitted to the Union on June 20, 1863, and was a key Civil War border state. West Virginia was the only state to form by separating from a Confederate state, the first to separate from any state since Maine separated from Massachusetts, and was one of two states formed during the American Civil War (the other being Nevada, which separated from Utah Territory).
Virginia (i/vərˈdʒɪnjə/ vər-JIN-yə, UK /vərˈdʒɪniə/ vər-JIN-ee-ə), officially the Commonwealth of Virginia, is a state located in the South Atlantic region of the United States. Virginia is nicknamed the "Old Dominion" due to its status as the first colonial possession established in mainland British America, and "Mother of Presidents" because eight U.S. presidents were born there, more than any other state. The geography and climate of the Commonwealth are shaped by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Chesapeake Bay, which provide habitat for much of its flora and fauna. The capital of the Commonwealth is Richmond; Virginia Beach is the most populous city, and Fairfax County is the most populous political subdivision. The Commonwealth's estimated population as of 2014 is over 8.3 million.
The area's history begins with several indigenous groups, including the Powhatan. In 1607 the London Company established the Colony of Virginia as the first permanent New World English colony. Slave labor and the land acquired from displaced Native American tribes each played a significant role in the colony's early politics and plantation economy. Virginia was one of the 13 Colonies in the American Revolution and joined the Confederacy in the American Civil War, during which Richmond was made the Confederate capital and Virginia's northwestern counties seceded to form the state of West Virginia. Although the Commonwealth was under one-party rule for nearly a century following Reconstruction, both major national parties are competitive in modern Virginia.
Coopers Rock State Forest is a 12,747-acre (52 km2)state forest in Monongalia and Preston counties in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Its southern edge abuts Cheat Lake and the canyon section of Cheat River, a popular whitewater rafting river in the eastern US.
Coopers Rock State Forest gets its name from a legend about a fugitive who hid from the law near what is now the overlook. A cooper by trade, he resumed making barrels at his new mountain hideout, selling them to people in nearby communities. He lived and worked in the forest for many years.
Much of Coopers Rock was originally developed by projects of the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936-1942. Many of these structures, including durable rustic picnic shelters made of American chestnut, exist today and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Coopers Rock forest is roughly bisected by Interstate 68. The northern portion of the forest is managed by forestry program at West Virginia University and is lesser-developed. The southern part is jointly managed by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and West Virginia Division of Forestry. It is more developed than some of the other state forests as it functions as a major recreation destination for the Morgantown area.
"Love of My Life" is a ballad by the British rock band Queen from their 1975 album A Night at the Opera. The song was written by Freddie Mercury about Mary Austin, with whom he had a long term relationship in the early 1970s. After performing the song in South America in 1981, the version from their live album Live Killers reached number 1 in the singles chart in Argentina and Brazil, and stayed in the charts in Argentina for an entire year.
Freddie Mercury wrote it on the piano and guitar first, and Brian May rearranged the song for acoustic 12-string guitar for live performances, also lowering the key by a semitone. May contributed occasional guitar phrases to the original recording and played the swooping harp glissandos by pasting together multiple takes of single chords. The song is an example of Mercury's familiarity with rubato phrasing, showcasing his classical piano influences, notably by Chopin and Beethoven.
With its similar lyrical theme, the Roger Taylor penned single "These Are the Days of Our Lives" would later hearken back to "Love of My Life", twice using the line "I still love you". At the end of "These Are the Days of Our Lives", Mercury simply speaks those words, as he would often do in live versions of "Love of My Life".
West is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. West is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of east and is perpendicular to north and south.
The word "West" is a Germanic word passed into some Romance languages (ouest in French, oest in Catalan, ovest in Italian, oeste in Spanish and Portuguese). As is apparent in the Gothic term vasi (Visigoths), it stems from the same Indo-European root that gave the Sanskrit vas-ati (night) and vesper (evening) in Latin.
To go west using a compass for navigation, one needs to set a bearing or azimuth of 270°.
West is the direction opposite that of the Earth's rotation on its axis, and is therefore the general direction towards which the Sun appears to constantly progress and eventually set.
Moving continuously west is following a circle of latitude.
The phrase "the West" is often spoken in reference to the Western world, which includes Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the European Union, and the United States of America.

This hike begins along Highway 7, in Clarke County, Virginia, west of Purcellville. Here we get on the Appalachian Trail and hike in a northbound direction for approximately 3 miles, crossing the state line into Jefferson County, West Virginia, and reaching Raven Rocks cliff area. The cliffs are just a few hundred yards inside West Virginia, so the view to the south and west is looking back into Virginia. It's a pretty good view, looking back over one of the ridges that I crossed on the hike up, and out onto the Shenandoah Valley. The Shenandoah River is also visible. The wind was brutal on this late evening hike, and it was difficult to enjoy the cliffs. I was still able to boil some water and eat my Alpine Aire meal at a neat campsite just north of the cliffs. The return trip w...

Roughly a 15-minute drive from Morgantown, West Virginia, six-acre Coopers Rock Lake rests in the Coopers Rock State Forest and is stocked bi-monthly with trout in March, April and May by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and once a month in February and October. The lake is planted with rainbow, brown, brook and golden rainbow trout and is a popular spot with locals. While success comes with several methods we caught a few trout in our short two-hour visit with Pautzke FireBait and you can, too. March Madness time means it's time to run down the freshly-released NCAA Tournament bracket and figure out some deceivingly difficult things like: • Can Kansas exercise Bill Self's tournament demons and, behind Perry Ellis and Wayne Selden, close out an impressive 2015-16 campaign? • Is Michigan State (with a healthy Denzel Valentine) poised to make another deep run? • Just how vulnerable are talented-but-flawed Duke and Kentucky? • Will Oregon's length and athleticism with Tyler Dorsey, Dillon Brooks, and Chris Boucher be enough to put them over the top? • Should Oklahoma's Buddy Hield show mercy for the first time in his college career? (the answer is no) • Will Villanova and Xavier finish strong for the Big East? • Which mid-major, in a year that doesn't feature a lot of mid-majo...

Oh, West Virginia
I come crawling out
All the wolves will howl
Oh and you tamed horses
With their muffled mouths
All the wolves will howl
Oh, my love grows
In the woon
Oh, when I say
(Don't go)
That's when you leave
(I know) x3
No...
Haul to California
We go hand in mouth
All the fools will scowl
Oh, you fevered farces
With red tongues about
All the fools will scowl
Oh, I'm alone
In the room
Oh, when I say
(Don't go)
That's when you leave
(I know) x3
