The Pilbara is a large, dry, thinly populated region in the north of Western Australia. It is known for its Aboriginal peoples, its ancient landscapes, the red earth, its vast mineral deposits, in particular iron ore and as a global biodiversity hotspot for subterranean fauna. It is one of nine regions of the Regional Development Commissions Act 1993, and is also a bioregion under the Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA).
The region has an estimated population of 48,610 as of June 2010. The Pilbara covers an area of 502,000 km2, which includes some of Earth's oldest rock formations. It includes landscapes of coastal plains and mountain ranges with cliffs and gorges. The major settlements of the region are Port Hedland, Karratha and Newman.
The area is known for its petroleum, natural gas and iron ore deposits, which contribute significantly to Western Australia's economy. Other than mining, pastoral activities as well as fishing and tourism are the main industries.

English adventurer William Dampier sailed along Australia's North West coast in 1688. He called it the most barren spot on the globe but noticed that the compass showed a powerful attraction to a range of mountains to the south. For the next 250 years that powerful attraction was ignored, until in the 1960's it was found there were vast reserves of iron ore, today it is thought there is enough to supply world needs for the next 400 years. Jack Absalom's journey into the Pilbara unearths many of the regions treasures. You also get to travel on some of the giant ore trains that carry the economic treasure to the ports and onto giant cargo ships headed to Japan and China.

Best viewed at 720p this clip focuses on the noisy bit at the front or in the middle. It is a re-edit of my Pilbara clips and has had some of the exposure tweaked and the sound has been enhanced with better stereo effects. Cue, Western Australia (HD) - Cue, WA Tourism and vacation Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube The small town of Cue in Western Australia's Murchison Region is to me a particularly interesting outback town. Like so many old WA mining towns, Cue has thrived and floundered over the years with times of boom and bust. The town was established in 1893 following the discovery of gold in the area the year before, which sparked a gold rush to the remote Murchison Region desert. In its heyday at the beginning of the twentieth century Cue was home to over 10000 people, a thriving and prosperous town known as "The Queen of the Murchison". These days things couldn't be more different. With a population of less than 300, Cue is very clo...
There are some spectacular things to be seen around the Pilbara region, but it’s also become a great place to live.
The Cape Range National Park is a stunning natural expanse of canyons, gorges, limestone ranges and caves. You can visit the eastern or western side of the range and it is best to head to the Milyering Visitors Centre first to get some maps information about the park. There are a number of walking trails that you can embark on to follow along these ranges and canyons. If you do go for a trek along one of their tracks it is very important that you take sufficient water because it does get hot here and some of the walks are quite steep and go for many kilometers. You might even be lucky enough to have a few unexpected guests walking along with you at some of the walking tracks, and we had a family of emus walking along in front of us. Yardie Creek is a popular gorge and DEC run daily go...

Good memories of time gone by
Sweet friendships that never die
Will always be there when you grow tired
Don't swim against the currect
Because your arms will grow tired
Just float there and let the water pass the time
Cus' you never know what life throws at you
So don't tell me that you know the secret
Cus' you don't know me and I don't know you
Yeah, I'll tell you when I get there
And if I knew, I'd be lying too
Well preachers preach and liars lie
Burglars steal and smokers get high
They're not better or worse than you or I
Ya don't swim against the current
Because your arms will grow tired
Just float there and let the water pass the time
Cus' you never know what life throws at you
So don't tell me that you know the secret
Cus' you don't know me and I don't know you
Yeah, I'll tell you when I get there
And if I knew, well I'd be lying too
And don't give up on anything
Cus' I need you around here for a while
And don't give in to anything
Just forget about it out and smile
It's been two years since he's gone
I write these words
I sing this song
Some preacher says he knows what's going on
Cus' you never know what life throws at you
Yea don't tell me that you know some secret
Cus' you don't know me and I don't know you
Yeah, I'll tell you when I get there
Well if I knew, I'd be lying too
I'd be lying too
I'd be lying too
