Barbara Levy Boxer (born November 11, 1940) is the junior United States Senator from California (since 1993). A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1983–1993).
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Boxer graduated from Brooklyn College. She worked as a stockbroker for several years before moving to California with her husband. During the 1970s, she worked as a journalist for the Pacific Sun and as an aide to U.S. Representative John L. Burton. She served on the Marin County Board of Supervisors for six years and became the board's first female president. With the slogan "Barbara Boxer Gives a Damn", she was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1982, representing California District 6. She sat on the House Armed Services Committee, and was involved in government oversight, passing several procurement reforms.
Boxer won the 1992 election for the U.S. Senate. She previously held the record for the most popular votes in any U.S. Senate election in history, having received 6.96 million votes in her 2004 re-election, until her colleague, Dianne Feinstein, the senior Senator from California, surpassed that number in her 2012 re-election. Boxer is the ranking member of the Environment and Public Works Committee and the vice chair of the Select Committee on Ethics. She is also the Democratic Chief Deputy Whip. Although generally identified with San Francisco Bay Area, where her political career began, Boxer now lives in the Coachella Valley, making her, along with John Chiang, the only statewide elected official to live in the Southern half of California.
Bernard "Bernie" Sanders (born September 8, 1941) is an American politician and the junior United States Senator from Vermont. He is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. A Democrat as of 2015, Sanders had been the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history, though his caucusing with the Democrats entitled him to committee assignments and at times gave Democrats a majority. Sanders has been the ranking minority member on the Senate Budget Committee since January 2015, and previously served for two years as chair of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.
Sanders was born and raised in the New York City borough of Brooklyn and graduated from the University of Chicago in 1964. While a student, he was an active civil rights protest organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. After settling in Vermont in 1968, Sanders ran unsuccessful third-party campaigns for governor and U.S. senator in the early to mid-1970s. As an independent, he was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont's most populous city, in 1981, and was reelected three times. In 1990, he was elected to represent Vermont's at-large congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1991, Sanders co-founded the Congressional Progressive Caucus. He served as a congressman for 16 years before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. In 2012, he was reelected with 71% of the popular vote. During the 2016 presidential primaries, Sanders became the first self-described democratic socialist and first Jewish American to win a presidential primary of a major party, namely the New Hampshire primary.

He then served in the United States House of Representatives, representing South Carolina's 3rd congressional district from 1995 to 2003. Irritated by testimony from the author of 'A Moral Case for Fossil Fuels', Alex Epstein, democrat Senator Barbara Boxer asks, "Are you a scientist?" Epstein responds, "No. Philosopher... To teach you how to think more clearly." Boxer: "Well, you don't have to teach me how to think more clearly... I'm telling you that all you have to know is you're a philosopher and not a scientist, and I don't appreciate getting lectured by a philosopher about science." Boxer then turns to Father Robert Sirico, "You're saying that when the planet is facing all these problems, it's not a moral issue." Father Sirico replies, "I never said that. Where did I say that? Could you give me that quotation, Senator?" Unable to provide the quote, Boxer says, "I think you need to have a talk with Reverend Nelson," ...
Sen. Barbara Boxer lost her cool with Bernie Sanders’ supporters at the Nevada Democratic convention Saturday. Boxer, a Hillary Clinton surrogate, took the Las Vegas stage to raucous boos and, at first, tried to bring a unifying message to stop the onslaught. “I bring a message from Bernie Sanders and I bring a message from Hillary Clinton,” she told the crowd. “We need civility in the Democratic Party. Civility. Share Tweet But the supporters of the Vermont socialist were still angered that their charge had lost the Nevada caucus and were having none of it. She then tried reverse psychology on the angry crowd. When you boo me you’re booing Bernie Sanders. Go ahead. Bernie is my friend. You want to boo Bernie, boo me. Go on, you’re booing Bernie. You’re booing Bernie,” she said. A...
Barbara Boxer is claiming that “violent” Bernie Sanders supporters made her fear for her safety, at the Nevada Democratic Conventions. Cell phone footage reveals something slightly different. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. “California Sen. Dianne Feinstein warned that Bernie Sanders' intention to take his candidacy to the Democratic convention in July could spark unrest similar to the chaotic 1968 convention in Chicago and the riots surrounding it. "It worries me a great deal," Feinstein told CNN's Manu Raju. "You know, I don't want to go back to the '68 convention, because I worry about what it does to the electorate as a whole -- and he should, too." Her comments were the latest evidence that Democrats are incre...

Video Transcript: BOXER: So do you disagree with the pope when he says that climate change is one of the biggest issues? ROBERT SIRICO: I’m grateful for your defense of the pope. Perhaps not in all of his magisterial authority and the cherry-picking of this or that. BOXER: I can ask you what I want. Do you disagree with the pope on climate change? It’s a simple yes or no. SIRICO: When the pope says things that have to do with science, he does not speak from the magisterial authority of the Church. When he speaks on moral issues, such as abortion and contraception and the like, then he speaks… BOXER: So who’s cherry-picking? Boxer wanted no part of the pope’s abortion argument ‘cause they don’t align with her. Watch as she gets frustrated when the priest doesn’t cower to her bullyin...
