In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Qatar.

1. Although a harsh desert environment, with average summer temperatures of over 40C, human habitation of Qatar dates back to 50,000 years ago. Settlements and tools dating back to the Stone Age have been unearthed in the peninsula. Since its first mention by the Romans in the mid first century AD, the name hasn’t changed. Qatar is ranked 12th out of 153 countries in the Global Peace Index, and is one of the safest countries in the world to live in for both families and individuals relocating alone.
2. The Pearl Qatar is a luxury development built on an artificial island shaped like a string of pearls. It was built on top of an old pearl diving site and is a great place for people to dine, socialise, shop for luxury apparel or products, or to enjoy a stroll along the marina.
3. Qatar is the biggest exporter of natural gas in the world, has the fastest growing economy in the world and has the highest per capita income than any country in the world. This means it is very, very, very wealthy. None of its 2 million residents live below the poverty line and less than 1% are unemployed.
4. Qatar is an influential player in the Arab world, supporting several rebel groups during the Arab Spring both financially and through its globally expanding media group, Al Jazeera Media Network, which was founded by the ruling Emir. For its size, Qatar wields disproportionate influence in the world, and has been identified as a middle power.
5. In 2013, Qatar's total population was 1.8 million; 278,000 Qatari citizens and 1.5 million expatriates. Qatari nationals are merely 13% of the population. Non-Arab expatriates make up the majority of Qatar's population.
6. Qatar will be the smallest country ever to host the World Cup in 2022, although it has never qualified for the Cup before. Qatar also hosts the yearly Moto Grand Prix, on the Losail International Circuit. One of the most popular attractions amongst tourists visiting Qatar is the Aspire Academy Sports Dome in Doha. Spanning for 290,000 square miles, this is actually one of the largest sports domes in the entire world. Within this super dome there is a 200 meter track, an Olympic-sized pool and diving pool, a full-length football field, squash courts and several more areas available or a variety of sports as well.
7. Doha (Ad Dawha) is the capital city of Qatar and means 'roundness' or ‘big tree’, according to the Centre for Geographic Information Systems. Doha was founded in the 1820s as an offshoot of Al Bidda. It was officially declared as the country's capital in 1971, when Qatar gained independence.

Its sole land border is with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf. A strait in the Persian Gulf separates Qatar from the nearby island of Bahrain, as well as sharing sea borders with the United Arab Emirates and Iran.
Following Ottoman rule, Qatar became a British protectorate in the early 20th century until gaining independence in 1971. Qatar has been ruled by the Al Thani family since the mid-19th century. Qatar is a hereditary constitutional monarchy and its head of state is Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The constitution was overwhelmingly approved in a constitutional referendum, with almost 98% in favour. In 2013, Qatar's total population was 1.8 million: 278,000 Qatari citizens and 1.5 million expatriates. After Saudi Arabia and Oman, Qatar is the most conservative society in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Doha
Doha (Arabic: الدوحة, ad-Dawḥa or ad-Dōḥa, literally in MSA: "the big tree", locally: "rounded bays") is the capital city and most populous city of the State of Qatar. Doha has a population of 956,460 within the city proper. The city is located on the coast of the Persian Gulf in the east of the country. It is Qatar's fastest growing city, with over 40% of the nation's population living in Doha or its surrounding suburbs, and it is also the economic center of the country. It comprises one of the municipalities of Qatar.
Doha was founded in the 1820s as an offshoot of Al Bidda. It was officially declared as the country's capital in 1971, when Qatar gained independence. As the commercial capital of Qatar and one of the emergent financial centers in the Middle East, Doha is considered a world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. Doha accommodates Education City, an area devoted to research and education.
The city was host to the first ministerial-level meeting of the Doha Development Round of World Trade Organization negotiations. It was also selected as host city of a number of sporting events, including the 2006 Asian Games, the 2011 Pan Arab Games and most of the games at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. In December 2011, the World Petroleum Council held the 20th World Petroleum Conference in Doha. Additionally, the city hosted the 2012 UNFCCC Climate Negotiations and is set to host a large number of the venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

1. Although a harsh desert environment, with average summer temperatures of over 40C, human habitation of Qatar dates back to 50,000 years ago. Settlements and tools dating back to the Stone Age have been unearthed in the peninsula. Since its first mention by the Romans in the mid first century AD, the name hasn’t changed. Qatar is ranked 12th out of 153 countries in the Global Peace Index, and is one of the safest countries in the world to live in for both families and individuals relocating alone.
2. The Pearl Qatar is a luxury development built on an artificial island shaped like a string of pearls. It was built on top of an old pearl diving site and is a great place for people to dine, socialise, shop for luxury apparel or products, or to enjoy a stroll along the marina.
3. Qatar is the biggest exporter of natural gas in the world, has the fastest growing economy in the world and has the highest per capita income than any country in the world. This means it is very, very, very wealthy. None of its 2 million residents live below the poverty line and less than 1% are unemployed.
4. Qatar is an influential player in the Arab world, supporting several rebel groups during the Arab Spring both financially and through its globally expanding media group, Al Jazeera Media Network, which was founded by the ruling Emir. For its size, Qatar wields disproportionate influence in the world, and has been identified as a middle power.
5. In 2013, Qatar's total population was 1.8 million; 278,000 Qatari citizens and 1.5 million expatriates. Qatari nationals are merely 13% of the population. Non-Arab expatriates make up the majority of Qatar's population.
6. Qatar will be the smallest country ever to host the World Cup in 2022, although it has never qualified for the Cup before. Qatar also hosts the yearly Moto Grand Prix, on the Losail International Circuit. One of the most popular attractions amongst tourists visiting Qatar is the Aspire Academy Sports Dome in Doha. Spanning for 290,000 square miles, this is actually one of the largest sports domes in the entire world. Within this super dome there is a 200 meter track, an Olympic-sized pool and diving pool, a full-length football field, squash courts and several more areas available or a variety of sports as well.
7. Doha (Ad Dawha) is the capital city of Qatar and means 'roundness' or ‘big tree’, according to the Centre for Geographic Information Systems. Doha was founded in the 1820s as an offshoot of Al Bidda. It was officially declared as the country's capital in 1971, when Qatar gained independence.

01. Museum of Islamic Art
A museum located on the Corniche. The iconic building was designed by architect I. M. Pei. Represents Islamic art from three continents over 1,400 years. Influenced by ancient Islamic architecture, yet has a unique design.
02. Souq Waqif
A souq. Transliterated to "the standing market," the souq is noted for selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. Also home to dozens of restaurants and Shisha lounges. Was renovated in 2006 to conserve its traditional architectural style.
03. Doha Corniche
A waterfront promenade extending for several kilometers along Doha Bay. Used to be an empty stretch of walkway in which the only visible edifice was a Sheraton Hotel, but development has increased in the 21st century with dozens of skyscrapers being built towards the north of the Corniche.
04. The Pearl-Qatar
An artificial island spanning nearly four million square metres. It is the first land in Qatar to be available for freehold ownership by foreign nationals. The name "The Pearl" was chosen because the island is being built on one of Qatar's previous major pearl diving sites.
05. Villaggio Mall
A shopping mall located in the Aspire Zone. Inside, the interiors are Italianate-themed both as an Italian hill town, but also with a 150-meter long indoor canal with gondolas. Has over 200 stores, including many famous brands in the U.S., U.K., Italian and German markets.
06. Barzan Towers
Aso known as the Umm Salal Mohammed Fort Towers, are watchtowers that were built in the late 19th century and renovated in 1910 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani. The towers measure 16 metres (52.49 ft) high. The fort links to two other fortified buildings towards the west and another tower towards the north.
07. Aspire Tower
Also known as The Torch Doha, is a 300-metre-tall (980 ft) skyscraper hotel located in the Aspire Zone complex. Served as the focal point for the 15th Asian Games hosted by Qatar in December 2006. Currently the tallest structure and building in Doha and Qatar.
08. Qatar Motor Show
An annual international motor show. Held each January at the Doha Exhibitions Centre. Features new models as well as supercars, concept cars, custom cars from style centers and automotive designers. Outdoor demonstrations of motocross and drifting are featured as well as test driving.
09. Al Bidda
A neighborhood of Doha. It was previously the largest town in Qatar in the 19th century. Was incorporated as a district in the Doha municipality in the late 20th century.
10. Doha Golf Club
An 18-hole, 7,374-yard, par 72 championship course that was designed by Peter Harradine. One of the first grass golf course ever built in the Middle East. Open to nonmembers, it has a 2 808 yards long floodlit nine-hole academy course, and a clubhouse with three restaurants and a golf shop.

The discovery was made by Swedish firm Interspectral, which carried out 3D CT scans on the crocodile. A previous study in the 1990s had revealed the enormous adult was in fact accompanied by a second crocodile, but failed to spot the individually wrapped babies – of which there appear to be at least 47. Curator Lara Weiss believes the reptiles were probably mummified as an offering to the crocodile god Sobek, BBC News reports....
