A home is a dwelling-place used as a permanent or semi-permanent residence for an individual, family, household or several families in a tribe. It is often a house, apartment, or other building, or alternatively a mobile home, houseboat, yurt or any other portable shelter. Homes typically provide areas and facilities for sleeping, preparing food, eating and hygiene. Larger groups may live in a nursing home, children's home, convent or any similar institution. A homestead also includes agricultural land and facilities for domesticated animals. Where more secure dwellings are not available, people may live in the informal and sometimes illegal shacks found in slums and shanty towns. More generally, "home" may be considered to be a geographic area, such as a town, village, suburb, city, or country.
Transitory accommodation in a treatment facility for a few weeks is not normally considered permanent enough to replace a more stable location as 'home'. In 2005, 100 million people worldwide were estimated to be homeless.

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects part of the urinary tract. When it affects the lower urinary tract it is known as a bladder infection (cystitis) and when it affects the upper urinary tract it is known as kidney infection (pyelonephritis). Symptoms from a lower urinary tract include pain with urination, frequent urination, and feeling the need to urinate despite having an empty bladder. Symptoms of a kidney infection include fever and flank pain usually in addition to the symptoms of a lower UTI. Rarely the urine may appear bloody In the very old and the very young, symptoms may be vague or non-specific.
The most common cause of infection is Escherichia coli, though other bacteria or fungi may rarely be the cause. Risk factors include female anatomy, sexual intercourse, diabetes, obesity, and family history. Although sexual intercourse is a risk factor, UTIs are not classified as sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Kidney infection, if it occurs, usually follows a bladder infection but may also result from a blood-borne infection. Diagnosis in young healthy women can be based on symptoms alone. In those with vague symptoms, diagnosis can be difficult because bacteria may be present without there being an infection. In complicated cases or if treatment fails, a urine culture may be useful.
Bacterial vaginosis (BV), also known as vaginal bacteriosis or Gardnerella vaginitis, is a disease of the vagina caused by excessive growth of bacteria. Common symptoms include increased vaginal discharge that often smells like fish. The discharge is usually white or gray in color. Burning with urination may occur. Itching is uncommon. Occasionally there may be no symptoms. Having BV increases the risk of infection by a number of other sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS. It also increases the risk of early delivery among pregnant women.
BV is caused by an imbalance of the naturally occurring bacteria in the vagina. There is a change in the most common type of bacteria and a hundred to thousandfold increase in total numbers of bacteria present. Typically bacteria other than Lactobaccili become more common. Risk factors include douching, new or multiple sex partners, antibiotics, and using an intrauterine device among others. However, it is not considered a sexually transmitted infection. Diagnosis is suspected based on the symptoms and may be verified by testing the vaginal discharge and finding a higher than normal vaginal pH and large numbers of bacteria. BV is often confused with a vaginal yeast infection or infection with Trichomonas.

The White Blood Cells that is the WBC is usually produced in the body to fight certain infections. So they usually the WBC increases when there is any bacterial infection or post viral infection or any other inflammation as such may increase the WBC in the body. So usually after the WBC itself helps in the immunity of child and hence certain infection usually increases. But however other conditions such as the concerned drugs if the child is on prolonged use of steroids or any inhalers that is for the asthma this also may increase in WBC level in the body. Another important cause if there is any physical stress that is post caesura convection in a child and if there is any stress response or if there is any emotional stress in this children, this can also increase the WBC. Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes the condition of Bone Infection and Osteomyelitis in asimple and easy way, telling you all you need to know about those conditions. Chronic osteomyelitis is an infection in a bone. It may be an incurable problem. What happens with bone infections (osteomyelitis)? Usually, bacteria causes infection in the bone. Leukocytes are attracted to the area and secrete enzymes in an attempt to kill the bacteria. Blood flow to the area is decreased and a devitalized, necrotic bone is formed called sequestrum. A sequestrum is infected dead bone resulting from osteomyelitis. Haversian canals surround blood vessels and nerve cells throughout the bone. The sequestrum has no connection to normal bone through the Haversian system (osteon). Due to avascul...
“How to recover from antibiotics.” – What does that mean? If you’ve been treated with a course of antibiotics for a long or a short time, or if you’ve been using food that has antibiotics in it, without you knowing, or if you’ve been misusing antibiotics in any way, you might start to have health problems. You might suffer from certain complaints that will make your life a little bit more difficult. Side Effects of Antibiotics Let me discuss the complaints that you might have from use of antibiotics. The most affected organs would probably be your intestines. That’s because the antibiotics are going to kill the bacterial flora, which is the friendly bacteria in your intestines that is responsible for digestion and making vitamin K, which is important for you. So, you will notice that yo...

Dr. Michele LeRoux explains how bacteria interact with one another as they compete for environmental resources. She focuses on the Type Six Secretion System (T6SS), a protein complex in the membrane of some strains of bacteria that is used to fight and outcompete other bacteria. Studying this system in Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, she discovered that when these bacteria encounter other bacteria with T6SS, they are able to increase the amount of activated T6SS in their membranes. She noticed that Pseudomonas Aeruginosa could sense the death of sibling bacteria, which...

Learn how to treat SIBO infection once and for all. Sibo treatment protocol that works! There is a contradiction when it comes to treating SIBO with conventional drugs because often clinicians prescribe antibiotics which are renown as being at least one possible cause of the illness in the first place. Often these drugs are also known for not providing permanent resolution of the bacterial overgrowth and in some cases they are actually understood to make the problem worse. This is because it has now been proven that bacteria are not always the free-floating organisms they were once believed to be, but often they are found to live in communities called biofilms. These biofilms not only resist attack from synthetic chemicals, but they are also able to strengthen their reserves against them ...

Antimicrobial resistance is a rapidly emerging global threat. A post-antibiotic era where some common infections can kill is a very real possibility for the 21st century. We will discuss the problem of antimicrobial resistance with particular reference to gram negative bacteria and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We will then discuss two new and potent concepts for antibiotic development, being investigated in the Otago Bacterial Energetics and Antimicrobial Resistance (OBEAR) group: 1) bacterial metabolism is an entirely new antibiotic target space that can circumvent resistance; 2) enzyme activators can be just as potent antimicrobials as enzyme inhibitors. Dr James Usser is from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Otago and Southern Community Laboratories. http://...

http://www.iBiology.org Talk Overview: Polyketide antibiotics include many of the most commonly used antibiotics in medicine today such as erythromycin, rapamycin and avermectin. In Part 1, Dr. Khosla describes the modular enzymes that synthesize these antibiotics, with each module adding to a growing polyketide chain in an assembly-line manner. Using the enzyme 6-deoxyerythronolide B synthase (DEBS) as an example, he walks us through the multiple steps from simple precusor to complex product. Khosla also explains that a vast improvement in DNA sequencing in the past decade has led to the identification of many gene clusters encoding polyketide assembly lines. The products of these assembly lines are not known, however, suggesting that new and possibly useful antibiotics are yet to be ...

Sorry, i forgot to add my explanation here in the video description. Here goes: This patient requested that I remove her dermal piercing because she wanted anesthesia to be placed in the area. I was able to remove the piercing pretty easily, and I decided to put a stitch in to try to make the area a fine line instead or a small "hole". Well, I shouldn't have done that, since I couldn't refresh the edges without making the "hole" a lot bigger. I was essentially just trapping fully healed skin underneath... and this led to a local skin infection. She saw this, and came back in within a few days with swelling, pain, and some purulence in the area. I took a bacterial culture and placed her on antibiotics and thankfully she improved very quickly. She is happy with the way it is healing,...
