About the Movie

From the Oscar-winner who brought you ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and BEING JOHN MALKOVICH comes a riveting new masterpiece. Michael Stone - husband, father and noted author - travels to Cincinnati to speak at a customer service conference. But once he’s separated from the routine of his daily life, a chance encounter helps him to realize just what, and whom, he’s been missing. Love, laughter and loneliness align in a “staggeringly inventive” (Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly) stop-motion work of art from directors Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: What drives the film is a scowling suspicion that modern man is a mechanized being, created as if on an assembly line, and stripped bare of individuality-a product, like any other merchandise. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Jan 18, 2016

Fresh: Charlie Kaufman's animated feature is one of his best films yet, a haunting fable about the illusion of love. – Rafer Guzman, Newsday, Jan 29, 2016

Fresh: It's a film therapists could spend years analysing on the couch. [Kaufman] has, once again, succinctly captured that very modern problem of how we live. Sheer genius. – James Mottram, South China Morning Post, Apr 6, 2016

Fresh: I've seen it thrice. It has not palled. – David Sexton, London Evening Standard, Mar 14, 2016

Stop motion??

More like "I wish it would stop" motion. Can’t believe I got duped into purchasing this. Last time I’ll ever give any weight to the Rotten Tomatoes reviewers. This thing is like “Waiting for Godot” on thorazine, only slower. Best part of this movie was the opening where the screen was just black.

Spectacular!

Human. Extraordinary. Raw. Emotional. Beautiful. Psychological. Brilliant. Exquisite. Finely Made. Grand. A spectacle. "ANOMALISA" has changed my life.

Depressing

Embarrassed for clay actors??? New low.
