Heavy Clashes And Urban Fighting Between Syrian Rebels And The Syrian Army In Idlib. Syrian rebels led by Al-Nusra and the Islamic Front captured the city of Idlib after 4 days of intense fighting. This was confirmed by several pro rebel sources and western media. Also the Syrian news agency SANNA admited the defeat but said the Syrian Army is actuall regrouping on the southern outskirts of the town and preparing a counter offensive to retake Idlib back from the rebels.
Idlib is the capital of the northern province of Idlib, and it became only the second provincial capital in the country to fall to the rebels since the northeastern city of Raqqa was captured by IS two years ago.
The government appeared to have made scant effort to defend the city wich resulted in a quick victory for rebel fighters.
It is most likely that the city now will face daily shelling and air raids by the Syrian Air Force in order to target the rebels inside.
The civilian population mostly already left the city as the footage shows.
This footage is mostly filmed by Al-Nusra members but also a small amount of Syrian Army footage from fighting inside the town is featured in the video.

Syria War 2015 - Idlib Offensive: Heavy Clashes During The Battle For Jisr al-Shughur. Syrian rebels contiuned their push against government troops in the Idlib and Hama region after they captured the strategic town of Idlib a few weeks ago. Their new offensive aimed to capture the city of Jisr al-Shughur in the Idlib governorote. The fighting for the town was part of the so called "Battle of Victory" that took place in the Idlib and Hama Governorates. In order of the fighting Jisr al-Shughur was captured by the rebels. The success of the battle has been attributed to better coordination between the Syrian opposition's backers.
The offensive on Jisr al-Shughur was launched to cut off the government access to a major highway linking Idlib to Latakia. Several smaller towns in the vicinity where also captured by rebels in order of the battle.
The Jisr al-Shughur offensive has been described as one of the "largest and most ambitious operations of the Syrian civil war" consisting of some 40 opposition groups, with the main goal being to outflank and interdict government troops who were sent to attempt to push back against the 2015 Idlib offensive, which followed the opposition victory at the Second Battle of Idlib.
Free Syrian Army brigades were tasked with spearheading the cutting of Syrian Arab Army supply lines from the west, as well as carrying out secondary attacks against SAA positions across Idlib.
Opposition forces were widely reported to be planning to move on the government's stronghold of Latakia following the capture of Jisr al-Shughur.
After recent rebel victories against the Syrian government, some people began to fear a scenario where (hardline) rebels would swarm Damascus in the near future, despite government reassurances.
The offensive was a joint operation of Free Syrian Army brigades and also hardline rebel groups under the banner of the Army of Conquest on the one side and the Syrian army supported by Hezbollah and the NDF on the other side.
The footage shows mostly fighting from the rebel perspective but however a small amount of SAA footage is also featured in this video.

Idlib
Idlib (Arabic: ادلب, also spelled Edlib or Idleb) is a city in northwestern Syria, capital of the Idlib Governorate, and 59 kilometers (37 mi) south west of Aleppo. It has an elevation of nearly 500 meters (1,600 ft) above sea level. In the 2004 census by the Central Bureau of Statistics, Idlib had a population of 98,791 (2004 census) and in 2010 the population of Idlib was around 165,000 (2010 census). The inhabitants are overwhelmingly Sunni Muslims, although there is a significant Christian minority. Idlib is divided into six main districts: Ashrafiyeh (the most populous), Hittin, Hejaz, Downtown, Hurriya, and al-Qusur.
A major agricultural center of Syria, the Idlib area is also historically significant, containing many "dead cities" and man-made tells. Idlib contains the ancient city of Ebla, once the capital of a powerful kingdom. ancient kingdoms of Nuhašše and Luhuti flourished in the Governorate during the Bronze and Iron ages.
History
Ottoman era
During the Ottoman era of rule in Syria, between the 16th and 19th centuries, Idlib served as the capital of a kada ("subdistrict capital") bearing its name, part of the larger Vilayet of Aleppo ("Province of Aleppo.") The city was a center of olive production, which in turn gave way to a prosperous olive-based soap industry. Although the major markets for Idlib's soap were at Aleppo, Antioch, and Hama, the product was exported as far as the Ottoman capital of Istanbul. Idlib was also a major producer of cotton fabrics. Western traveler Josias Leslie Porter noted that Idlib was "encompassed in olive groves, rare in this bleak region." He further remarked that its olives groves were larger than those of Damascus, Beirut, and Gaza. In the mid-19th-century, the town had an estimated population of 8,000, including 500 Christians. In the late 19th-century, Idlib was "flourishing" and contained a number of Christian families, according to German writers working for Karl Baedeker.

Also the Syrian news agency SANNA admited the defeat but said the Syrian Army is actuall regrouping on the southern outskirts of the town and preparing a counter offensive to retake Idlib back from the rebels.
Idlib is the capital of the northern province of Idlib, and it became only the second provincial capital in the country to fall to the rebels since the northeastern city of Raqqa was captured by IS two years ago.
The government appeared to have made scant effort to defend the city wich resulted in a quick victory for rebel fighters.
It is most likely that the city now will face daily shelling and air raids by the Syrian Air Force in order to target the rebels inside.
The civilian population mostly already left the city as the footage shows.
This footage is mostly filmed by Al-Nusra members but also a small amount of Syrian Army footage from fighting inside the town is featured in the video.

Syria War 2015 - Idlib Offensive: Heavy Clashes During The Battle For Jisr al-Shughur. Syrian rebels contiuned their push against government troops in the Idlib and Hama region after they captured the strategic town of Idlib a few weeks ago. Their new offensive aimed to capture the city of Jisr al-Shughur in the Idlib governorote. The fighting for the town was part of the so called "Battle of Victory" that took place in the Idlib and Hama Governorates. In order of the fighting Jisr al-Shughur was captured by the rebels. The success of the battle has been attributed to better coordination between the Syrian opposition's backers.
The offensive on Jisr al-Shughur was launched to cut off the government access to a major highway linking Idlib to Latakia. Several smaller towns in the vicinity where also captured by rebels in order of the battle.
The Jisr al-Shughur offensive has been described as one of the "largest and most ambitious operations of the Syrian civil war" consisting of some 40 opposition groups, with the main goal being to outflank and interdict government troops who were sent to attempt to push back against the 2015 Idlib offensive, which followed the opposition victory at the Second Battle of Idlib.
Free Syrian Army brigades were tasked with spearheading the cutting of Syrian Arab Army supply lines from the west, as well as carrying out secondary attacks against SAA positions across Idlib.
Opposition forces were widely reported to be planning to move on the government's stronghold of Latakia following the capture of Jisr al-Shughur.
After recent rebel victories against the Syrian government, some people began to fear a scenario where (hardline) rebels would swarm Damascus in the near future, despite government reassurances.
The offensive was a joint operation of Free Syrian Army brigades and also hardline rebel groups under the banner of the Army of Conquest on the one side and the Syrian army supported by Hezbollah and the NDF on the other side.
The footage shows mostly fighting from the rebel perspective but however a small amount of SAA footage is also featured in this video.
