NEW YORK (AFP) - US stocks surged Wednesday with the Nasdaq hitting a fresh record after the Federal Reserve kept interest rates low. The Nasdaq Composite index jumped 1.0 percent to 5,295.18, up about 12 points from the previous record on September 7. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.9 percent to 18,293.70, while the broad-based S&P; 500 gained 1.1 percent to 2,163.12. The Fed kept in place its ultralow federal funds rate of 0.25-0.50 percent as it trimmed its forecast for US economic growth in 2016
Stocks rallied Wednesday as the Nasdaq closed at a new record high after the Federal Reserve opted to leave interest rates unchanged but stressed that the case for a hike in rates has "strengthened." The Dow Jones industrial average rose 163.74 points, or 0.9%, to 18,293.70 after being up just 28 points before the Fed statement. The Standard & Poor's 500 stock index jumped 23.36 points, or 1.1%, to 2163.12. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite added 53.83 points, or 1%, to an all-time closing high of 5295.18. In its statement, the Fed said the "case for an increase in (short-term) rates has strengthened" but that the Fed "decided, for the time being, to wait for further evidence of continued progress toward its objectives" of full employment and inflation moving back up to its 2% target.

NASDAQ Composite and Index Funds Meeting Wall Of Worry. Trend - The trend is back to Caution after the thrust off the lows. Contrarian Analysis says that when the number of NASDAQ Composite newsletter market timers are overly bearish, then the market starts to move higher on the Wall of Worry. Outlook - The index funds plunged to the lows and then surged back higher to recapture all the losses. So that puts us right back were we were prior to the Brexit. The QQQ and the IWM are showing lower highs and the SPY and DIA are close to recapturing the highs again. Potential Opportunity - The Stochastic is moving higher above the 50 line on the daily charts and that is a buying opportunity. The move higher has been quick and a pull back is possible.
Die Indizes sehen charttechnisch angeschlagen aus. Die Bären haben es jedoch noch nicht geschafft die entscheidenden Marken zu brechen. Hamed Esnaashari

At the close of trade Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 119 points, or 0.67% to 17855. In 1972, NASDAQ stood for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations.[4] NASDAQ was founded in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD),[5] which divested itself of NASDAQ in a series of sales in 2000 and 2001. NASDAQ is owned and operated by the The NASDAQ OMX Group, the stocks of which were listed on its own stock exchange beginning July 2, 2002, under the ticker symbol NDAQ. When the NASDAQ began trading on February 8, 1971, it was the world's first electronic stock market. At first, it was merely a quotation system and did not provide a way to perform electronic trades.[6] The NASDAQ helped lower the spread (the difference between the bid price and the ask price of the stock) but was unpopular among brokerages which made much of their money on...

On Monday the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the Nasdaq Composite, and the S&P; 500 all hit all-time highs. There is less than 5% unemployment. Inflation is less than 2%. Interest rates have been historically low for 9 years. Gas is cheap. So what is everybody, not only many antique dealers, complaining about?? Maybe people just always complain, no matter what. Certainly no politician is going to come out & say that if you're not doing well it's your own fault! You've got to blame somebody else, right? So, for years I've been making the case that prices for antiques are rising & that they continue to rise. It's just that the game is now played differently. So in this week's show and continuing next week in Part II I'll be looking at current prices in many categories & comparing them to price...

Investors buying tech stocks in December 2000 thought they were getting the value of a lifetime with the Nasdaq Composite down 55% from its March highs... But then the Nasdaq tumbled an additional 60% before finally bottoming out in October 2002...It took more than 6 years for those investors to break even... Or how about investors who bought financial stocks in March 2008, when the KBW Banking Index was nearly 50 percent off its 2007 highs... That probably seemed like a great bargain until the index plummeted an additional 76% to its March 2009 lows...Those dip buyers are STILL losing money on their investments. Buying the dip has cost investors billions of dollars over the years.
