"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.
The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either passively, openly or via sabotage.
As a phrase meaning "the boss" it dates from at least 1918.
In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.
The use of this term was expanded to counterculture groups and their battles against authority, such as the Yippies, which, according to a May 19, 1969 article in U.S. News and World Report, had the "avowed aim ... to destroy 'The Man', their term for the present system of government". The term eventually found its way into humorous usage, such as in a December 1979 motorcycle ad from the magazine Easyriders which featured the tagline, "California residents: Add 6% sales tax for The Man."
Super Furry Animals are a Welsh rock band who lean towards psychedelic rock and electronic experimentation. Since their formation in Cardiff, Wales in 1993, the band has consisted of Gruff Rhys (lead vocals, guitar), Huw Bunford (lead guitar, vocals), Guto Pryce (bass guitar), Cian Ciaran (keyboards, synthesisers, various electronics, occasional guitar, vocals) and Dafydd Ieuan (drums, vocals). Actor Rhys Ifans is also a former member.
Super Furry Animals have recorded nine UK Albums Chart Top 25 studio albums (one BPI certified Gold and 4 certified Silver), plus numerous singles, EPs, compilations and collaborations.
Over the course of nine albums, Super Furry Animals have been described as "One of the most imaginative bands of our time" by Billboard magazine, while according to NME, "There’s a case to be argued that SFA are the most important band of the past 15 years."
The band formed in Cardiff after being in various other Welsh bands and techno outfits in the area. Ifans, Ieuan and Pryce had been together since the early 1990s and had toured the north coast of France as a techno group. After Bunford and Ciaran (the latter Ieuan's younger brother) joined, they wrote some songs, and in 1995 signed to Ankst, the Welsh indie label. The band are considered to be part of the renaissance of Welsh music (and art, and literature) in the 1990s: other Welsh bands of the time include the Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia, Stereophonics and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci.

From the Fuzzy Logic Reissue. The Man Don't Give A Fuck Demo recorded in October, 1995. OK, now you can purchase the cd (or the vinyl)! SFA OK (am byth)! No copyright rights infringement intended.
This Astoria gig in 1999 was filmed by a Japanese Television company, and was then shown in edited form on the Scottish Version of ITV2 (known as S2 at the time). The set will be put up in full in due course. This shows how much the band had developed in the 3 years since the 1996 Astoria show which has already been uploaded in full on my Super Furry Channel. This song has traditionally been the live set closer ever since its release in 1996, although it was replaced by 'Keep The Cosmic Trigger Happy' on some of the more recent 2009 set lists. Enjoy!
